“John Tyson has a long and distinguished career of battling crime in the community. He’s created several award-winning programs that have altered the approach to addressing problems of crime; programs which promote early intervention and the collaboration of multiple agencies to find solutions. “Not only does this reduce the level and frequency of crime, but the programs are designed to identify needs and intervene before a pattern of crime escalates.”

Tyson’s experience as a member of the Alabama State Board of Education combined with his current role as a district attorney led to the creation of programs such as the “Make the Right Choice” program, a juvenile crime intervention innovation. In 2002, with increasing instances of abandoned newborns, he implemented the Secret Safe Place for Newborns, which won acclaim from Alabama child advocacy and social services agencies.
