Upside of Being Knocked Around
By MARK LEIBOVICH
WASHINGTON — So, now that it might finally be over (or maybe close to it, possibly, perhaps), does Senator Barack Obama come out a bloody mess, or a battle-tested warrior?
In recent weeks, a wiseguy consensus seems to have settled on the former: the idea that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has so weakened Mr. Obama in the race for the Democratic nomination — so diminished him, distracted him, exhausted him — that he could be a grievously damaged nominee.

I was and remain a strong Wes Clark supporter and fan. Like most, who have frequented this web site, I was disappointed when he decided not to run for political office. I continue to admire his hard work in support of Democratic candidates whose values we all share. But…
I find that what was once a Wes Clark web site has become a Hillary Clinton web site. And I note that the number of users (at this particular moment) number 17 – when they used to number consistently in the 60s, 70s and even 80s.

The 18-year-old vote

[Note: I'm starting a new blog on this topic because the IN-NC thread has gotten way too long to manage effectively. I'm responding to Kelly's post in that thread that the country should return to the 21-year-old vote.]
Of course, as James pointed out in the IN-NC thread, the rationale behind the 18-year-old vote was that if the 18-20 year-olds can die for the country, they shoud have a voice in deciding who will send them to their fate.
There's an obvious solution both to what Kelly said and what James said: If you want to vote when you're 18 or 19, sign up and serve. I could support a 21-year-old vote except for those in the military, when the age would be 18.

Rapid Response
Hello Everyone:
I was really glad to see Lou Dobbs and his panel guest Robert Zimmerman (a Hillary supporter and superdelegate) rebuke Ted Kennedy for his very stupid and highly divisive anti-Hillary comment about Hillary not being on the ticket on Friday, May 9 in this transcript:

I'm sort of stunned by some of the things I've been reading lately. Conspiracy fear of the worst sort.
I'm too afraid to open this so-called 'Pandora's Box' and see what's inside, eh?
LOL. You got the wrong guy.

Yeah, that title is not an oxymoron, there are still some adults left on the net.
I have to cut the grass and do other gardening chores today but wanted to draw attention to this terrific diary by Jerome Armstrong.
He's answering the new Obama Haka that KY and WV should be ignored....

"Barack Obama's Web-based fund-raising apparatus," in contrast, is "respectable." When "Obama proved he could perform this most basic function in politics," without constantly hitting them up or soliciting from corrupt types, it was a "get-out-of-jail-free card for many Democrats."
Jail in this case meant being held hostage by the Clintons. You can imagine what life has been like for big-money Democrats. . .
