I sure hope Clark will be informed of the new Moyers series...

Moyers On America is a new series on PBS (1st episode aired tonight) by
Bill Moyers.
Tonight was a very powerful episode that chronicled
the Abramoff, Delay, etc. scandal and more - what K Street has become.
The first hour was basically a documentary; the second was an excellent
discussion of the extraordinary new degree of corruption
that is now occurring and what needs to be done about it.
Oh, I so very much hope that Clark has either watched this
or gets the chance to see the streaming video of the
program offered on the page linked to above - very, very
Who runs the site "Fresh Start" - aka clarkstart.de? Thank you...

I couldn't find a way to contact the site owner/operator, but if that person happens to check in to CCN, I just want to take the opportunity to say "Thanks!"
Even after the 2004 campaign had run its course, I've used clarkstart.de as my main reference page to get to all of my favorite newspapers and blogs.
And today, I found some new regular features up top that I sure appreciate having on there: live stream for air america, the stephen colbert youtube, and the wesley clark youtube (from which I just saw some things I hadn't seen before, such as a video tribute that's there).

Save Lebanese Civilians
Faleh A. Jabar, an Iraqi intellectual resident in Beirut who has been a leading force in promoting a democratic intellectual culture in Iraq, writes from Lebanon:
Dear All:
This situation in Lebanon is going from bad to worst. Innocent lives are being shattered and threatened in mass.
I need to ask you and other colleagues in the academia to launch a campaign to pressure the US to stop Israeli destruction of bridges, power stations, and end the Israeli blockade to Lebanon. Fuel is running short, and hospitals will come to a stand still, water supplies will be cut short, a total human disaster. Israel's official target is to secure Hizbollah-free south, not to starve four millions and randoumly threaten the lives of all civilians.
I am sixty years old this year, and my life does not matter that much; but I look at the young and shudder: I have young neighbours who need kidney-wash every 48 hours, and there are children with cancer, lot with heart diseases. Cutting power supply means a death sentence to them.
May I add that doctors in Beirut advised that the fate of more than 20,000 patients is at stake. Pregnant women will most certainly suffer. Their numbers are anybody's guess. There are two tankers waiting offshore for Israeli guarantees to no avail. They carry fuel supplies to power plants and vehicles, some 20 odd days.
This is horrible and unbearable. Please do something. Send letters to the UN, EU, the White House, the International Red Cross. This is urgent.

Flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada intensifying..

(from an e-mail circulating these days - I got it from a friend this morning... along with a much needed laugh... ;-))
Subject: Illegal immigrants*
*Manitoba Herald, Canada*
The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada
has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols
to stop the illegal immigration.*
The actions of President Bush are prompting the exodus among
left-leaning citizens who fear they'll soon be required to hunt, pray,
and agree with Bill O'Reilly. Canadian border farmers say it's not
uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, animal-rights activists
and Unitarians crossing their fields at night.*
I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood
producer huddled in the barn," said Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield,
whose acreage borders North Dakota. The producer was cold, exhausted
and hungry.*
He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken.
When I said I didn't have any, he left. Didn't even get a chance to show him my screenplay, eh?"*
In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher
fences, but the liberals scaled them. So he tried installing speakers
that blare Rush Limbaugh across the fields. "Not real effective," he
said. "The liberals still got through, and Rush annoyed the cows so
much they wouldn't give milk."*
Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals
near the Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons, drive
them across the border and leave them to fend for themselves.*
A lot of these people are not prepared for rugged conditions," an
Ontario border patrolman said. "I found one carload without a drop of
drinking water. They did have a nice little Napa Valley cabernet,
though."*
When liberals are caught, they're sent back across the border, often
wailing loudly that they fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors
have been circulating about the Bush administration establishing
re-education camps in which liberals will be forced to drink domestic
beer and watch NASCAR races.*
In recent days, liberals have turned to sometimes-ingenious ways of
crossing the border. Some have taken to posing as senior citizens on
bus trips to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs. After catching a
half-dozen young vegans disguised in powdered wigs, Canadian
immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed
senior-citizen passengers on Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney hits to
prove they were alive in the '50s.*
If they can't identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk
Show, we get suspicious about their age," an official said.*
Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are
creating an organic-broccoli shortage and renting all the good Susan
Sarandon movies.*
I feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just
can't support them," an Ottawa resident said. "How many art-history
majors does one country need?"*
In an effort to ease tensions between the United States and Canada,
Vice President Dick Cheney met with the Canadian ambassador and pledged
that the administration would take steps to reassure liberals, a source
close to Cheney said. We're going to have some Peter, Paul & Mary
concerts. And we might put some endangered species on postage stamps.
The President is determined to reach out," he said.

Juan Cole has been advocating withdrawal and even timetables recently...
Submitted by LindaG on June 20, 2006 - 11:05am.
This seems rather new at least in my reading of Juan Cole.
I remember when Kerry first put out his statements of time-tables for withdrawal, Cole seemed to argue against that, with great concern about the delicate matter of leaving, saying that this would be one of the most difficult things the US will ever have to do - due to the even greater chaos and violence for Iraq and the region that could ensue upon a hasty withdrawal. Yet today and in other posts recently, he seems to be calling vigorously for withdrawal - his hero being Feingold (as well as Kerry and Boxer - for joining in the set withdrawal).
"The War Tapes" looks like one hell of a film...

This looks like another one to chalk up in the "must see" column...
Scientist at Real Climate calling for politicians who have a grasp of science

climate change | Global Warming
From one of the scientists at Real Climate, disgusted with something that occurred on CNN recently, saying that we need politicians who are both engaging and have a solid grasp of the science behind global warming to counter these jokers.
I think I know just the guy, ;-)... Calling Wes!
Here's what "raypierre" said in a comment (his response within the brackets):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I like to debate the finer points of this subject, where there might be legitimate theories to explore and expand on, but when contrarians, either lay or scientist contrarians propose dumb ideas, they should be responded with the clearest logic possible. I see how bad ideas remain in the populace, how sound science gets buried, as another recent example, a contrarian proponent having the ears of millions suggests something really dumb like where are those 200,000 year old cars?
A US government whistleblower tells Panorama how scientific reports about global warming have been systematically changed and suppressed.
Some of America's leading climate scientists claim to Panorama that they have been censored and gagged by the administration.
One of them believes the publication of his report, which catalogues the unprecedented rate of ice melt in the Arctic, was delayed as Americans prepared to vote in 2004.
The scientists claim that when Bush came to power in 2000 his administration selected advice which argued that global warming was not a result of human activities and that the phenomenon could be natural.
But one of the people who suggested the president adopt that position explains to Panorama how he has changed his point of view: "It's now 2006. I think most people would conclude that there is global warming taking place and that the behaviour of humans is affecting the climate. I am not the administration. What they want to do is their business. it has nothing to do with what I believe."
Panorama's reporter Hilary Andersson visits some of the first refugees of global warming who come from an island in Arctic Alaska which has been inhabited for 4,000 years ago but is now melting into the sea.
In the last six years most industrialised nations have cut greenhouse gas emissions but under Bush America's emissions have increased by an average of one per cent a year.
The administration is now spending money to establish cleaner ways of burning coal and to cut emissions but is still reluctant to risk damaging the American fuel industries.
But some scientists say this will take too long. One of them tells Panorama how he was told NASA would have to approve everything he planned to write and say publicly about the effects of global warming.
Another scientist from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) tells Panorama he had research which established global warming could increase the intensity of hurricanes. He was due to give an interview about his work but claims he was gagged.
Three weeks later in August 2005, Hurricane Katrina killed at least 1,200 people in New Orleans and was recorded as one of the strongest Atlantic storms. But the NOAA website said unusual hurricane activity is not related to global warming.
Panorama learns that some scientists are afraid that what they see as a cover up will leave it too late for the US to have any hope of controlling climate changes brought about by global warming.
