Wonder what Wes thinks about this? U.S. CONGRESS ASKED ABOUT BOOSTING UN COMMAND

Gloria's picture

Now that Wes is talking about N. Korea, this tidbit about possibly reviving the UN command in Korea caught my eye. I wonder if he knows U.S. Forces Commander Burwell Bell??

U.S. CONGRESS ASKED ABOUT BOOSTING UN COMMAND IN KOREA

The U.S. Congress has asked the Department of Defense and the State Department to report on chances of reviving UN Command in Korea, a body nominally still made up of countries that took part on the South’s side in the Korean War. The move comes in the midst of plans to dissolve Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command, return wartime operational control of forces to Korea and other signs of a lesser role for the U.S. forces in the country.

Check out this latest Zogby poll question (!)

Gloria's picture

It's in a new format...brief summaries of candidates without names. We can recognize most of them, but maybe the average person taking the poll won't be able to put a name on these descriptions.

Is Gen. Wes on this list???? (LOL!) Note the word used on the "domestic issues" bit. Sounds pretty good overall, don't you think??

******************

Which of the following Democratic candidates are your more likely to vote for president?

Candidate A is the governor of a swing state in the Southwest. Candidate A was a congressman before he served as Ambassador to the UN and Secretary of Energy. He is considered to be a moderate in the party. If elected, Candidate A would be the first Hispanic President.

Senate votes: Kerry-Feingold, Levin Amendment...full votes and my summary

Second time I've tried posting this...last time, a blank screen came up and said DONE...it was done, alright as in GONE!! (Posting from "Preview" seems to be the problem....directly submitting without preview seems to be OK)

Levin summary

Levin Amendment
39 Yeah

Nay
All Repugs joined by

Landrieu LA
Nelson FL
Nelson NE
Pryor AR
Lieberman CT

Rockefeller Not Voting (on either amendment)

The Levin Amendment tripled the Yeah votes vs. the Kerry vote.

Aside from the ignominious 5 (exc. Rockefeller), it looks like things are coalescing around this angle which seems to be close to the Clark position. Which means that nearly the entire Democratic caucus is willing to sign on to this approach.

The "amnesty" story: Looking forward to comments by the General

Maliki Aide Who Discussed Amnesty Leaves Job
Premier Disavows Remarks; Egyptian Seen Replacing Zarqawi

By Ellen Knickmeyer and Jonathan Finer
Washington Post Foreign Service
Friday, June 16, 2006; Page A22

BAGHDAD, June 15 -- Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's office on Thursday accepted the resignation of an aide who had told a reporter that Maliki was considering a limited amnesty that would likely include guerrillas who had attacked U.S. troops, the aide said.

(SNIP)

The Maliki aide who resigned, Adnan Ali al-Kadhimi, stood by his account of amnesty considerations, reported Thursday by The Washington Post. Kadhimi said Maliki had indicated the same position less directly in public. "The prime minister himself has said that he is ready to give amnesty to the so-called resistance, provided they have not been involved in killing Iraqis," Kadhimi said Thursday.

Fighting the "Liberal Media"--a lesson from Gen. Wes (repost of earlier comment)

I just posted to a thread at DU about how Begala blew an
opportunity to counter an attack against Democrats.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1428725
Subject:Just a teensy example of what's gone wrong....CNN/Begala/Watts

The poster says, correctly, that this plays out over and over again in the media....that "our side" lets things go by unchallenged, in this case, that the differences in opinion about Iraq would, according to JC Watts, have meant that Saddam would still be in power killing people, etc etc..--and Begala just sat there and let it hang..

Looks like Murtha and Kerry are part of Rove's fall election plans--

Gloria's picture

Well, I figured it would only be a matter of time until Rove came out of his hole.  Looks like Murtha and the follow-the-leader Kerry may help the entire party be labeled as "cut and run."

Oh, if this party could only excercise some message discipline!!!   And not mess up the message which Gen. Clark has been advising for so long....

Comments on Wes' speech which sounds incredible!

VIDEO supposed to be coming and pics....

Sample quote with comment:

"why am i going back over ancient history?  because it's not ancient.  we went to war in iraq to cover up the command negligence that led to 9-11".

FUCK YEA!  audience goes WILD!!!!!!  standing ovation...  "i hope every democrat in this country sees you on your feet acknowledgint the reality of the world we're living in today thanks to the misleadership we've living under today"

Maybe there's a bigger battle for the General to fight....saving the vote

Gloria's picture

I was listening to Mark Crispin Miller on Randi Rhodes today and was really gripped by what he was saying.  It was about the vote and stolen elections.  He sounded more urgent that usual. And frustrated, as he recounted his story of warning Kerry about the machines and how he warning was ignored.  He said the Democrats are "in denial" about how the voting machines are being used to steal votes.

Miller said that there were groups in nearly every state trying to correct problems, but that they will FAIL if they continue to act as small activist groups.  The vote situation must become a MASS MOVEMENT or else we're going to lose our democracy.

6/3 Democratic Radio Address--Clark influence?

Gloria's picture

The address is going to be given by Peter Welch who is running for Congress.  This short report seems to indicate that his message shares some elements of Gen. Clark's recent assessment. It will be iinteresting to see/hear the whole thing for the details.

The name Peter Welch doesn't ring a bell....I don't think Gen. Clark has campaigned for him, has he??

Vermont senator, running for Congress, calls for Iraq withdrawal

<!-- if ("" == "") document.writeln("\<!--"); //--> <!-- <!-- if ("" == "") document.writeln("--\>"); //--> (Montpelier, VT - AP) - Vermont state Senator Peter Welch says US soldiers need to begin moving out of Iraq during the rest of the year.

That's the message he'll be delivering tomorrow during the Democrats' national radio address responding to the president's weekly talk.

It's the lastest opportunity the national Democrats have given to one of their congressional candidates in a competitive district.

Welch says that the Iraqis must make a transition to full sovereignty and that has to come in connection with the reduction in the number of US troops.

Welch is expected to face former Vermont National Guard commander Martha Rainville, the likely Republican nominee.
