Upside of Being Knocked Around

WASHINGTON — So, now that it might finally be over (or maybe close to it, possibly, perhaps), does Senator Barack Obama come out a bloody mess, or a battle-tested warrior?

In recent weeks, a wiseguy consensus seems to have settled on the former: the idea that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has so weakened Mr. Obama in the race for the Democratic nomination — so diminished him, distracted him, exhausted him — that he could be a grievously damaged nominee.

I'm sort of stunned by some of the things I've been reading lately. Conspiracy fear of the worst sort.

I'm too afraid to open this so-called 'Pandora's Box' and see what's inside, eh?

LOL. You got the wrong guy.

Mmm. Let's see:

"Barack Obama's Web-based fund-raising apparatus," in contrast, is "respectable." When "Obama proved he could perform this most basic function in politics," without constantly hitting them up or soliciting from corrupt types, it was a "get-out-of-jail-free card for many Democrats."

Jail in this case meant being held hostage by the Clintons. You can imagine what life has been like for big-money Democrats. . .

"Oh, no, here they come again. Turns off the lights and draw the curtains."

"John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has been called upon to renounce a church leader he considers his spiritual guide for urging a Christian war to destroy the “false religion” of Islam.

"Gen. David Petraeus, who commanded the surge in Iraq, was recommended April 23 by U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates to be the next head of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, this means Petraeus would remain in ultimate command of the war in Iraq while also taking command in Afghanistan. Days after the recommendation, there was yet another unsuccessful attempt on the life of Afghan President Hamid Karzai on April 27.
