Ruth had a link to a nice clip of Wes earlier today.

I know one thing I hope we do different this time is we network with clarkies across the US to "cover" his appearances. We will be the media, take the video, pics, etc and get them up and online for all to spread around. We lost a lot of treasures last time around that were never captured.

Submitted by Melange on January 15, 2007 - 9:07pm.

Ice,
'Jump the shark' is probably not the phrase you wanted to use here.

Jumping the shark is a metaphor that was originally used to denote the tipping point at which a TV series is deemed to have passed its peak, or has introduced plot twists that are illogical in terms of everything that has preceded them. Once a show has "jumped the shark", fans sense a noticeable decline in quality or feel the show has undergone too many changes to retain its original charm. The term has also evolved to describe other areas of pop culture, including movie series, music, acting celebrities, or authors for whom a drastic change was seen as the beginning of the end. These changes are often attempts to attract their fans' waning attention with over-the-top statements or increasingly overt appeals to sex or violence. Some have broadened its use to simply describe any decline in appeal for the subject in question, without requiring a significant "jump the shark" moment as justification.

very gloomy forecast. "The clock is ticking"....if it's a military option, I think all bets are off as to where this ends." (paraphrased)

Whew! And no, we are NOT prepared for biological warfare. I watched a documentary, a new one, and it was frightening.

Then watched "The Plague" and at the end of the history of the plague, (VERY GOOD ON HIST.CH. if you can catch it) ... they also talked about how we are not prepared!

That's why I think he will run, tho he's been trying to change the dynamics of the ME for a number of years now. I know he doesn't want his positions to be politicized, but unless he runs, I doubt any of the normal people will know what's been going on. He shines in townhalls and he can get the message out while running and with all our strength, we'll be moving him and Gert into the WH.

Wes is going to run -- no doubt about it.
He looked great tonight, khaki pants, white shirt, red tie and grey V-neck sweater.

He started off immediately talking about his bio. Where he grew up, going to West Point, X amount of years in the Army, getting wounded in Nam, etc. etc. I got the impression that he was hurt when in 04' everyone was talking about Kerry's war service and barely mentioned his record of service. And he's right, that's what happened. He definitely sounded like a candidate to me. He was passionate, funny, and he did say that "IF I RUN THIS TIME, I'LL WIN!!!

The crowd was energetic, supportive, and there were no empty seats in the house.
RUN WES RUN!

and lost my appetite! And I'm only at home reading you two! LOL!

Submitted by Joyce11 on January 15, 2007 - 9:47pm.

He was very passionate -- more so than I've ever seen him. He talked about how he wanted to make a difference. He said he wanted to increase teachers pay, wanted to raise the minimum wage, wanted pre-school education for every child, wanted health care for everyone. He talked about illegal immigration, foreign policy. Someone asked him how long it would take to undo the damage of the Bush Administratiion. He said that people in other countries loved Americans, they just don't like our governmental policies. But more than that, he talked about his last campaign and how he was viewed in 04 as not really being a Democrat and how in the last couple of years he has proven himself by helping elect a Democratic congress and senate. How he had raised more than a million dollars and had spent many days campaigning all across the country for democratic candidates. He said that he was the ONLY democrat that Jon Tester would allow to come to Montana and campaign for him. He said in relation to his running again tha he had not said NO. That he was working through the idea. Like I said though, he was more passionate than I've ever seen him. He loves this country and it makes him mad as hell to see what Bush/Cheney are doing to his beloved country.

Dying and Living in COPS America
by Richard Rapaport

~snip~
What is so pernicious about "Armed & Famous," "COPS," "America's Most Wanted," "To Catch a Predator," "S.W.A.T." and other of this criminal-vérité programming? It is that they have helped set a national tone in which both the police and the policed have been convinced that appropriate law-enforcement correlates with high-speed chases, blocking and tackling, drawn weapons, and a shoot-first, think-later mindset. What connects November's "bust-in" killing of 88-year-old Kathryn Johnston in Atlanta with the slaying of bridegroom Sean Bell in Queens, N.Y. that same month, is that both fell from fusillades fired by undercover police squads clearly doing more shooting than thinking.

That both Johnson and Bell were African-Americans illuminates again the "separate but unequal" law-enforcement system under which America still labors.

~snip~
What is so harmful about this mixture of real-life street-tragedy and low-rent entertainment is that "COPS" and its brethren reduce our resistance to the kind of dehumanized "ultra-violence" Anthony Burgess hypothesized in his then-seemingly satiric 1962 novel "A Clockwork Orange."

Richard Rapaport will be a guest on NPR's "Talk of the Nation" w/ Neil Conan on Wednesday Jan 16, 2007.
