It's not much, but anything to get the best man for the job into the oval office. Just finished watching the video, Wes was amazing out there tonight, he really brought the house down with applause, a lot of people liked what Wes had to say that's for sure.

I also really loved the way he took on domestic issues and stressed the fact that he isn't just a military man, he's business man too, and from what I heard tonight and know of Wes's business ventures I'd dare say he's a very good one.

Wes Clark, jack of many trades and a master of all

My God, a tour de force in just a few minutes. I've never heard him speak better, off the top of his head...and so rapidly. Reminds me of Col. Hackworth's observation that he thinks on his feet at warp speed.

"When I run I'll be a national security candidate." Say what? Did he really say that? I watched it five times to make sure.

Geezus, this is a keeper. Can we show this to a few million of our nearest and dearest? If I had an iPod, I'll show it to everybody I came across.

Looks like the waiting and questioning time is over. If ever there was a direct signal to the troops to get a move on...it was this. He should give evry one of his speeches this way, in Q@A format with a scripted opening remarks and closing statement, the meat in the middle all improv. It would immediately show that he is heads and tails above all the pretender candidates.

This has made my night, no my week...hell, this has made my year!

Besides saying "I'll be the national security candidate", did you notice him saying something like "this is what I'll do..." when discussing diplomacy in the Middle East?

Guess I better start doing some detailed design on an interactive web site idea I had in mind to support his candidancy...looks like the effort won't be wasted

p.s. - web site idea is to have a database of candidates/positions/survey questions that people can visit where they rank the issues important to them and answer questions...(and magically, Wes Clark's name will often pop up as being a better match for their concerns over other candidates[since I'll be certain to "bias" the database in a certain way])

I'm primarily a database/software guy who doesn't know squat about 'beautifying' a site.

What I have in mind for the portal is running it on DotNetNuke which is an open source project rapidly gaining support with the Microsoft-oriented community. Unlike some of the other Linux-oriented open source projects (like what is running the Clark site for example), DNN has a commercially-friendly BSD-style license (no cost) and therefore there is a wealth of low-cost 3rd party commercial modules/skins/etc. available for it.

A lot of the meat of the project can be assembled with modules already available, but the 'survey' module is something that is going to need to be programmed with some custom underlying database tables (which I can do). Lots of DNN hosting sites are available that will handle all of the infrastructure needs for a modest monthly fee.

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/

I actually got the core database designed yesterday, but now I need to spend several weeks doing step-by-step design of the workflow to make certain that everything (included expected results frequently showing Clark as best choice) is accounted for.

If I design this thing correctly, we'll be able to set up certain admin modules accessible to the Clark community where we can enter the core survey questions/candidate positions into the database. I would expect there to be a few hundred questions in the database that are randomly presented to the user (so that a user can go back to the site again and again) [although we could start simply with just 10-20 questions for development/test]

As a example of how this works, let's say that one of the questions presented to the user is:

"Do you think that the invasion of Iraq was a good idea?"

I would expect that the vast majority of respondents would mark "Strongly disagree". Then candidates like Clark and Obama would score highly, while candidates like Hillary and Edwards would score poorly due to their vote supporting the initiation of this war, while people like McCain who still support this fiasco would score at the extreme opposite end of the scale (the database would have a piece of evidence that could be presented to the user for each of these determinations).

If the respondent wants to see how these determinations were arrived at, then they would have to enter some information as a 'registered user of the site' along with some demograghic information that we may provide to the candidate's campaign with the respondent's agreement (of course, we would only send 'hits' to the Clark campaign). IF the site became popular, I would also be able to do some interesting data mining operations on the demographic information collected. This is the 'hook' of the site.

May start a separate blog entry on this, but this is the general idea.

I watched this video several times and I saw Wes wanting to go for a glass of water. He started to but held back. I was screaming, "Take that drink!" Then I wondered if he had no water down there. "Somebody get him some water!" His voice sounds good but he should have water available 100% of the time. Boy, would I love to be his water boy. :)

see that in videos of his speeches ..... no water .....

advance people for Wes....  individual water whatever brand... no I have a better idea... get a water company to sponsor some of his speeches and they supply the bottled water that he has during speech... the label shows the company brand...

very good idea for bottled water companies to get a chance to have their brand publically seen..... take bids......make deals... arrange exclusive contracts....

turn it into a capitalist opportunity - Wes needs water - bottle water company needs their brand to be seen with a solid citizen icon .... good fit -- can we get this done!!!

Here is a snippet from the introduction to my political biography of General Clark

...A worm's eye view of a presidential campaign.
Thousands of volunteers work in every presidential campaign. They come from all walks of life. There are lawyers, clerks, writers, retired military, people with media backgrounds, homemakers, high-school dropouts, senior citizens, and college students, to name but a few backgrounds. They all work hard. They do whatever needs doing. They do not get paid. They make sure that the mundane tasks are done, and done well. They make phone calls, write letters, drive the candidate from event to event, place water next to the podium, and make sure the candidate's shoes are not wet. Trivial? No. Absolutely nothing is trivial on a Presidential campaign.

Submitted by m4clark on January 18, 2007 - 12:04pm.

When Bill Clinton came to speak, his advance people said to make sure that there is water at the podium and that it had to be room temperature. Otherwise, it effects the speaking voice. Someone should always make sure that Gen. Clark has room temperature water at the podium when he speaks. I'll volunteer for that duty!

Vortex.

Wes looks good in the sweaters, imo. That said....it was actually perfect he wore the sweater and khakis in this instance. Why?

Because he was in a union hall...with union members. If he had entered that hall in a suit....it would have been a turnoff to the audience. Even if subconciously. They would have seen him as a "suit". The sweater was a perfect choice for the occasion.

I'd actually like to see him add a nice pair of blue jeans to his wardrobe...for certain appropriate instances when he comes out West. ;)

A great, great speech to a great audience. General Clark, with Mark Warner, is the only candidate who addresses real issues at their roots and brings them to real people. I'd like to see Senators Obama, Dodd, Biden or Clinton talk to this same crowd about the benefit of Unions as Wes did. Not since JFK has a politician had the touch of the common man without seeming patronizing. I saw it here in the Legion Hall as well.

I love his comment about unions - I was hoping he would work what he spoke about at the WesPAC Annual meeting last year into a bit of a campaign platform. can I ask that renewable energy are at the top of the list too? Something like, "Within the next eight years, America will lead the way in renewable, sustainable energy for transportation and power." Or something like that - less clunky?

I think a big part of the push should hit those bells as well, seeing as it's a big chunk of the security issue. Remember the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness? Couldn't there be something like that for High School Science Geeks - um, the President's Council for Geeks Who Want to Be Part of the Solution to Our Sustainable Energy Needs? OK. That's clunky too - but you know where I'm going...sorry for (once again) being almost completely jumbled in the writing, but the darn basset was 'cold' last night and spent a good deal of it not being able to decide if he wanted in or out of the bed, and then under or on top of the covers, and we just laid there looking at him while he stared back at us as if the cold snap were all our fault...so I'm just operating on fumes this morning.

I like that he pointed out what it’s like to lose a job and no one is out there for you… It’s tough to always worry financially and maintaining that certain success that society expects from you, which comes with mental and emotional stress; so for having someone out there to coach you and help to get your foot in the door with new or transitional skills in the job force is an exceptional idea. Well, it’s just one of his great points he made during this speech.

And thank you, Ruth.

Here is what I found regarding linking to blogs from YouTube.

Currently, YouTube supports posting to Blogger, BlogSpot, WordPress and LiveJournal blogs, as well as Friendster. We will be adding support for other blogging platforms and personal sites soon. Please enter your blog's username and password below. If you have more than one blog attached to this account, you will choose which one to post to on the next page.
Specific Blog Host Requirements

* Friendster: Your username is your email address.
* WordPress Self-Hosted: Requires an API key and the API URL (http://your blog's URL/xmlrpc.php).

If anyone has any of those blogs they can link the video. Drupal isn't listed. That's what we are running here, right?

• I've watched this video 15 times

• I've watched this video (starting at 3:00 am) so many times that I've lost count

Thanks, Ruth! Hey!....Wes is running!
