StopIranWar.com: "War is not the answer"

All Americans want to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons and interfering on the ground inside Iraq.
Yet, President Bush's continued saber rattling gives the US little additional leverage to engage and dissuade Iran, and, more than likely, simply accelerates a dangerous slide into war. The United States can do better than this.
Whatever the pace of Iran's nuclear efforts, in the give and take of the Administration's rhetoric and accusations, we are approaching the last moments to head off looming conflict. Surely, it is past time to urge President Bush to exercise leadership and start to work now to avoid a widening of the conflict in the Middle East.
That's why today, I'm joining Jon Soltz, Chairman of VoteVets.org, the preeminent organization representing Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, to launch StopIranWar.com.
Visit StopIranWar.com. today and sign the petition to President Bush. War is not the answer.
StopIranWar.com is a one-stop resource for all Americans to help stop the looming conflict with Iran. With the latest news on Iran and online tools to contact President Bush, lobby your members of Congress, and write letters to the editor to local and national print media, StopIranWar.com will help us create the groundswell of support needed to stop another dangerous war in the Middle East.
Americans and their elected officials in Congress must work together to demand that President Bush stop the rush to war with Iran. The United States must use every option available to defuse tensions with Iran -- diplomatic, political, and economic -- before even considering military force. Military force must be viewed as the last resort -- not the first option.
Cannot the world's most powerful nation deign speak to the resentful and scheming regional power that is Iran? Can we not speak of the interests of others, work to establish a sustained dialogue, and seek to benefit the people of Iran and the region? Could not such a dialogue, properly conducted, begin a process that could, over time, help realign hardened attitudes and polarizing views within the region? And isn't it easier to undertake such a dialogue now, before more die, and more martyrs are created to feed extremist passions?
Visit StopIranWar.com. today and sign the petition to President Bush. War is not the answer.
War with Iran is not the answer. We must work with our allies, talk with Iran, and use all diplomatic, political, and economic options at our disposal. Military force against Iran is not the solution now, and if we adopt the right strategy, perhaps it need never be.
Sincerely,
![]()

US 'Iran attack plans' revealed
USS John C Stennis is being deployed to the Persian Gulf
US contingency plans for air strikes on Iran extend beyond nuclear sites and include most of the country's military infrastructure, the BBC has learned.
It is understood that any such attack - if ordered - would target Iranian air bases, naval bases, missile facilities and command-and-control centres.
The US insists it is not planning to attack, and is trying to persuade Tehran to stop uranium enrichment.
The UN has urged Iran to stop the programme or face economic sanctions.
But diplomatic sources have told the BBC that as a fallback plan, senior officials at Central Command in Florida have already selected their target sets inside Iran.
That list includes Iran's uranium enrichment plant at Natanz. Facilities at Isfahan, Arak and Bushehr are also on the target list, the sources say.
Two triggers
BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner says the trigger for such an attack reportedly includes any confirmation that Iran was developing a nuclear weapon - which it denies.
The Natanz plant is buried under concrete, metal and earth
Alternatively, our correspondent adds, a high-casualty attack on US forces in neighbouring Iraq could also trigger a bombing campaign if it were traced directly back to Tehran.
Long range B2 stealth bombers would drop so-called "bunker-busting" bombs in an effort to penetrate the Natanz site, which is buried some 25m (27 yards) underground.
The BBC's Tehran correspondent France Harrison says the news that there are now two possible triggers for an attack is a concern to Iranians.
Authorities insist there is no cause for alarm but ordinary people are now becoming a little worried, she says.
Deadline
Earlier this month US officials said they had evidence Iran was providing weapons to Iraqi Shia militias. At the time, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the accusations were "excuses to prolong the stay" of US forces in Iraq.
Middle East analysts have recently voiced their fears of catastrophic consequences for any such US attack on Iran.
Britain's previous ambassador to Tehran, Sir Richard Dalton, told the BBC it would backfire badly by probably encouraging the Iranian government to develop a nuclear weapon in the long term.
Last year Iran resumed uranium enrichment - a process that can make fuel for power stations or, if greatly enriched, material for a nuclear bomb.
Tehran insists its programme is for civil use only, but Western countries suspect Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons.
The UN Security Council has called on Iran to suspend its enrichment of uranium by 21 February.
If it does not, and if the International Atomic Energy Agency confirms this, the resolution says that further economic sanctions will be considered.

Thanks for this opportunity to join a wave of e-mails to the White House. Individual ones at odd times don't seem to carry any weight.
Appreciate it, General.
Joy
Have two from my household signing this petition, and I'm sending out emails and letters.
Thank you for caring and working so hard. America needs you, and I know you need our help. We will do what we can to help you.

Signed the petition, although I don't recall a time George Bush listened to the people. I've been reading the McClatchy blog from Iraq and first hand accounts there, really describes the pornography of war there. We simply can't smash another country and ruin the lives of the people who live there at the whim of Bush/Cheney. Congress needs to take control. No to fast track authority for this president and no to his ability to make war. The people voted in November to make George Bush a lame duck. It's time to put him in lockdown mode.

Nothing scares me more than a war with Iran.
Done and done.

http://www.peternavarro.com/comingchinawars.htmlThe audio version of The Coming China Wars is now available from audible.com! Listen to the introduction by clicking on this link. EXCERPTPublisher's Summary
China's breakneck industrialization is placing it on a collision course with the entire world. Tomorrow's China Wars will be fought over everything from decent jobs, livable wages, and leading-edge technologies to strategic resources such as oil, copper, and steel, even food, water, and air. In The Coming China Wars, best-selling author Peter Navarro previews all these potential conflicts, and reveals the urgent, radical decisions that must be made to avoid catastrophe. You'll learn how China's thirst for oil is driving nuclear proliferation in Iran, genocide in the Sudan, even Japan's remilitarization. You'll discover China's shocking role in the drug trade and how its reborn flesh trade may help trigger tomorrow's worst AIDS crisis. Navarro also reveals how China has become the world's most ruthless imperialist; how it is promoting global environmental disaster; and, perhaps most terrifying of all, how this nuclear superpower and pirate nation may be spiraling toward internal chaos.

I have my concerns for civic virtues & moral values.
Good day early-bird, I read your message and noticed how well you constructed your post. What I just wanted to add as a comment is that you can't just go to war like that, it is not responsible. As a matter of fact it is not rational and has nothing to do with a concern for human dignity, it is better to pursue those with morally incorrect motives and protect those who have been victimized instead of appealing the general public for popular prejudices.
Resist aristocracy & corruption.
But anyway congratulations to America with China's diplomatic achievements in managing North-Korea to shut down their nuclear program, as a democratic socialistic republican civilian am really happy this has occurred. Diplomacy, peace negotiations & cease-fire is a much better solution than war.
For there is only 1 true ruler of politics & society and that is morality.

Navy doc on the Blueridge (command and control ship), another ship I forget the name of, then in Japan, and hospitals in Siginella Itally, SanDiego, and Norfolk.
He got out in 94. He'd hit Commander rank, and was about to be promoted again - they wanted to make him an administrator. He would have had to not treat patients anymore, be a paper-pusher. (You know the old up-or-out thing.) He loved the Navy, but didn't want to stop being an actual physician.
If they'd let him stay shipboard treating the men, and going out with the Marines, he'd still be there probably. Desks aren't his thing.

Gen. Wes for once again speaking out and giving us the opportunity to say no to more oil wars. Just the fact that this is necessary makes me angry beyond reason.
Thanks for all your efforts to stop the republican war party, General Clark.

It's so stupid, isn't it, this
business of our government having us in the middle of a religious
dispute, fighting it out with them out through war, when we don't even have a clue about the true religious issues ---.
But, even for those those few Americans who do fully grasp the religious issues of the Sunni Muslims on one side and the Shia Muslims on the other side.
I think of the Irish
religious wars and the fact that President Clinton sure didn't get
us into fighting the war there.
And focused out efforts toward
peace there instead.
Of course, this is also about energy sources too but that's
really another issue that matters to those there of both religions.
Bless you, Wes and your Gert and the boys too.
Clara Cotton

I've started to notice a very small group of Clark supporters at this 6.6-million-member community. We never seem to be able to note our stories up to the front page. So, please, help by joining and noting it up. http://www.care2.com/news/member/808934313/307948
If/When we have a campaign, I would hope that we can start an official group there.
Thanks!

Bush misled us into war with Iraq because he failed to protect our country on 9/11 and now he'll mislead us into war with Iran because he failed in Iraq. Just this once, I pray that Bush could finally listen to the American people and the experts to protect our national interests.
But tragically, I expect that he'll wage war simply to provide himself cover, backed up with the troop escalation, until his term ends. Bush's strategy is simple, to "pass the buck" the next administration. And should/when this next debacle comes to be realized, I trust that only you can effect real leadership to move our country forward -- towards peace. This is the only outcome that I can best hope for...
Commit to securing America's future,

And thank you for continuing to stand up for what should be done in the Middle East.

I feel like I am living in a parallel universe with the way the administration is racketing up to war with Iran. I cannot help but remember how I felt when we were approaching war with Iraq. I remember your common sense voice then, and I appreciate it even more now. Thank you for working with votevets.org to help organize those of us against war in Iran to convince the Bush Administration that they must use diplomacy before they send more of our troops into harms way!

Thanks for your leadership on this. It demonstrates again why we need you to be our president. Please declare soon.
I'm sorry. Could you repeat the question?
Sorry, old joke. I didn't mean to sound flip, I just couldn't resist.
Still, it does point out how the Bush administration doesn't seem to know what it is doing in the Middle East. We do have to try to stop them, before they do more damage to national security.
The stopIranWar.com site makes it really easy.

I sure wish the NYTs and The Guardian would report the same story. The last time this happened, the NYTs helped get us into Iraq.

Download the StopIranWar.com business card here. For Avery 8371 or compatible stock.
Pass them out "liberally." I'll try to remember to update it from time to time with the updated number of petition signers.

This is exactly how one becomes "THE national security candidate." I'm impressed, and proud to be a supporter.
Go Wes!
I sent the petition to Bush and my senators and congresswoman, but I need help with sending it to my e-mail list. I thought I would do the list in groups of 20 to avoid some spam filters, but after I sent the first 20, I could find no way to get back to that page.
Any ideas??
