Here's what someone said on a "Wes Clark in Bloggers Alley" posting:
maybe next time... (0.00 / 0)
...someone will ask him what he thinks about his crimes against humanity in attacking Serbia without any justification?? This man needs to be tried in the Hague. See: Rambouillet Agreement.
http://www.bluejersey.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=3895
Can't respond to this idiot from work, but it seems he would also have a problem with Eisenhower attacking Nazi Germany without any justification
It won't let me. When I hit reply, it says that that page is not available. I was going to direct him to the spot where Clark was pointedly asked about that and addressed the questions in an upfront and frank manner.
GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: It was all looked at by the International Criminal Tribunal crime by Yugoslavia. All of my actions were examined and they were all upheld by the highest law in the United States.
question over at DK too - or very similar.
From Fred's post today the 4-Star Vets are going to be fighting along with us,
which is great.
I have an excerpt from Chris Hedges book "War is the Force" which usually shuts them up, but I can't find it. Looks like I'll be typing it over in the morning. Hedges carries weight even among the loonies.

whatever you deem useable ready to be entered into wiki.
We're hoping by Sunday to have it setup for input, so start gathering your data now.
Can't blog the link yet, as were testing. The structure also has to be done first. So, cross everything you have and send us some light. Have I mentioned that Westcott is a treasure?
After showing footage of Obama, Edwards and Clinton from the DNC meeting, Brian Williams said the following:
For his part, Retired General Wesley Clark, who ran in '04 but has not announced he's running again, brought the room to a standstill today when he asked everyone to reflect on the sacrifices of US troops and their families.

Very nice mention from Brian Williams. In fact the way he set it up it was like the rabble versus the grown up. ;)
Run Wes Run!
ever since Katrina which he did a great job on... nice to see he's keeping it up
Of the Nightly News anchors of course, KO is still hands down my favorite news anchor, when he called out the fishiness of what happen in Ohio I knew we had someone special...
the Iraq Plans presented by speakers today at the Winter meeting...
I have not heard any Wes mentions.
I am starting to think I dreamt that Wes was there? It was really early, and I'd been up late last night.

Just now on NBC Nightly News, they showed clips of the 3 perceived front runners speaking at the DNC Winter Meeting. I assumed they were finished, of course, but then, Brian Williams said, "General Wesley Clark, who ran for the presidency in 2004 but has yet to announce his candidacy, brought the room to a stand still when he asked everyone to offer up a moment of silence for our troops." Brian Williams had a very somber look on his face as he said all that. Frankly, I thought it had more of an impact then the clips they played of BO, JE & HC. It gave General Clark the gravitas he deserves.
WOW! Dare I say the media blackout just might be over?
Brian Williams moderated the forum about Vietnam & Pres. He said that he was wondering why we've never had a Vietnam Vet in the WHouse and if they had something to say. At that point, Hagel deferred to Clark: ask this guy. Everyone was chuckling at Wes getting put on the spot. He of course went directly into his talking points about getting Dems. elected in 06.
I think that spending 2 days with Brian Williams is paying dividends.

Clark talks and sounds like a presidential candidate
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- He hasn't formed a presidential exploratory committee or assembled much of a campaign organization, but Gen. Wesley Clark (Ret.) sounded like a full-fledged presidential candidate at the Democratic National Committee's winter meeting Friday.
The 2004 presidential candidate's address to the party faithful was packed with political punches on everything from the war in Iraq to increased compensation for CEOs to global warming.
"I think we need a president who understands how to take us out of Iraq; how to deal with multiple international challenges -- Iran, North Korea, terrorism, immigration, global warming, international trade; how to reenergize the American spirit and how to put us on the right path to a strong, secure and just America," Clark told the crowd.
Ending his speech with a call to have the "courage to begin" changing America, Clark left many wondering when and if he might begin his second presidential campaign.

I am starting to get agitated about our Democratic leaders' approach to Iran. John Edwards' recent comments while in Israel were disturbing enough. Now Hillary Clinton has used the same language.
snip
This is very, very discouraging. In a different world, perhaps it could just be chalked up to rhetorical excess and presidential politics and leave it at that. But in our world today, those are words that will be used to justify what the Bush administration is planning to do. It's deja vu all over again.
These Democrats are explicitly and openly endorsing the Bush Doctrine of preventive war. There can be no other way to read this and I cannot think of a greater mistake at this juncture for the Democratic party to expressly align itself with such lunacy. What are they thinking?...
Run Wes Run!

to the average American. It really exposes both JRE & HC as something other then what they'd like the typical American voter to think.
"If you have 1000 feet of leverage, do you need another half inch? " - Wes Clark
I am terribly concerned about this. It is one of the reasons (only one!) I feel Wes absolutely has to be a part of this campaign. He is the only one with the experience, knowledge, and gravitas to point out important FACTS in political debates. If he doesn't speak about such issues in these political forums that the public is actually listening to, I'm so very afraid that people will listen to Edwards and Hillary uncritically. It's fine to be passionate about one's favorite candidate. We certainly are. But critical thinking must NEVER be abandoned.
Who is it that has been referring to the American political system as an idiotocracy?

from General Clark on Iran that would be fitting to post at Digby's latest? On the thread you linked here there were a couple, maybe 3 posters who claimed they've had it with JE. Now is the perfect time to introduce them to General Clark! A couple already mentioned his name in the above thread.
I know he spoke about how we live with a nuclear Iran -- as opposed to JE's statement that we can not allow a nuclear Iran -- although JE in this post is backing off a bit.

I actually posted some stuff from WesDem's site:

Will check out the kos link, but don't want to over do it since I've only posted at Digby's a couple times, ever.

A must-read at MSNBC/Newsweek: http://tinyurl.com/2yq7cx
There have been two Medals of Honor awarded since the Iraq war began. What gives? An incensed Vietnam vet blasts the Pentagon’s track record of commending its bravest warriors.

Watching MSNBC, I have not heard a single mention that he was even at the DNC meeting today. On Tucker, they metioned EVERYONE'S name but his...
I guess the only folks anyone cares about is Obama, Hillary, and Edwards.

I've put all the names together in a nice, easy to remember, package.
And it's fun to say out loud, too!
I came home from work and turned on MSNBC. Tucker was on. I couldn't bear to watch him or Matthews tonight. I'm so very sick of the dribble. I watched History International until it was time for Countdown. Then back to history!
I've been thinking it is so very ironic that Matthews recently judged a beauty pageant, because that's how he evaluated the entire 2004 presidential political race. Who's ahead. Who's hot. Who's got the edge. Asking nearly everyone who came on the show (or so it seemed) whether they'd want to go to a barbecue with Bush or Kerry? WTH does that have to do with anything?! He's got the platform to promote the common good, to provide a venue for substantive discourse. But he judges the candidates so very superficially. And seems to actually drooool over his personal favorites.
Leadership means lifting people up. --Wes Clark
They want to hold a beauty pageant?
Bring it on!!
Bring on the swimsuit competition!
The "platform" questions--
The ... evening wear? Yeah Okay, the tuxes and gowns.
The "talent" competition--
How's winning a war without losing an allied life for talent? Oh, throw in assisting in negotiation the peace treaty afterwards then. Then top it off with a water ballet.
See... he would win the Beauty Pageant too.
It is the second interview at the site.

Clark. I can't recall if he was a Clark supporter in '04 though?

after hear Col. Jack Jacobs talk about what he thinks is going on with Bush's "troop surge" being something intended for a small scale purpose so that Bush can start bringing troops out of Iraq coupled with what was said on Olberman about the intel report describing Iraq as worse than a civil war, sounds like Wes concurs. Olberman caught the point that the administration didn't like the NIE, because the "facts don't fit the policy."
Meanwhile, He mentioned how the money to be paid to scientists disputing global warming science from Exxon Mobil was money donated to AEI? Apparently many AEI people have Exxon Mobil connections? The plot thickens.
Who would have thought such a thing... lol
it's also interesting how the neocons are so tightly tied together, isn't it more than a little odd that the same culprits are involved. For example Wes's arch nemisis Richard Perle is a big wig with AEI, and he was warmly received by the war mongers at AIPAC who lapped up Perle's promises of war with Iran gleefully.
Wes was wrong about one thing, the age of the neo cons isn't over, not until we exterminate every last shred of influence these thugs and their acolytes (freepers, faux noise channel, etc) have over our country.

Just checking in here to see the latest. Nice Clark day. He sure sounded like he was gearing up for campaign mode. I was getting worried that he wouldn't get in the race or that resources would be thin when he did. I am starting to think that he is smart to hold off on an announcement right now and that if and when he does there will be enough support to take him through the next year. Things are so much different than last time. I mean look at CCN and the WesPAC site. It's all in place and functioning beautifully. (thanks to many loyal bloggers)
Well, I'm ready for a Clark campaign and will donate video services once again. I will try to attend as many east coast events as possible and get that footage for our site.
I don't have the time I used to have to blog everyday, but I do check in. Love seeing the names of folks who have kept the fires burning for 3 years now.

But I will confess...I like some of the other candidates if they are our only choice. I don't want to get into the bashing of other candidates during this campaign. It's too hard to feel good about the nominee (if it isn't WKC) after a year of bashing. My only caveat is the "empty suit" who still annoys me with his lack of substance. Just won't ever get excited about him.
It made me smile this morning to see your name in the discussion thread. Yep - we sure are getting excited. We hope that Wes announces that he is running. We certainly need him in our White House.
I agree with you - we should try hard not to bash other candidates. I understand giving matter of fact statements. How someone stands on certain issues; how they voted on past bills; experience & knowledge is huge. Electability is a concern too.
Showing some respect when disagreeing is important. We don't want to turn any future Wes voters away because they are backing someone else now. jmho.

I'm so thrilled to see you back! Yeah, you betcha, we're all primed and ready, waiting for WKC to pull the trigger.

"Never underestimate what a determined soldier can accomplish when he's fighting for his country."

It's wonderful seeing all the "old" names coming back!
I too, think General is very smart for not jumping in yet. Obama's going to announce on the 10th, so I don't think there's any hurry. I'm hoping March. Those over-anxious bloggers who can't wait and are ready to bail to someone else will hopefully come back once General's in.
OTOH, we still don't really know if he's running... The waiting is the hardest part...

Pretty much looks like Howard Dean has put Wes in the race and everybody just better get used to it:)
Welcome back!

(snip)
The only nationally recognized Democratic leader who has earned serious consideration for the nomination isn't running -- yet. Al Gore has been right from the start on Iraq, on Global Warming, on the Bill of Rights, etc., and by the end of 2007 he may have won both an Oscar and the Nobel Peace Prize. (Wesley Clark deserves honorable mention, and would also be a worthy champion.)
But those who indulge in fantasies about 2008 are playing into the hands of the corporatist news media.
The fate of the Republic could well be decided over the course of the next six months. This is not a time for political busines as usual.
Thanks for the post. I'm glad they mentioned Wesley Clark. Hey - a Wes Clark/Al Gore ticket would be a great one. I don't think Al Gore does a great job on stage when doing a campaign speech, but he pushes for a lot of things I believe in. Wes and Al recognize the serious threat of global warming. People better wake up - now.
How wonderful to "see" you, dear virtual friend!!
And Cate, too!
It's a good feeling.....!
Leadership means lifting people up. --Wes Clark

the least bit underhanded... but it probably wouldn't hurt if folks dropped a line to
sometime tonight or maybe early tomorrow and complain about how General Clark was advertised on their website but didn't appear on the show.
You know, just to let Tweety know we missed him? ;)

"Never underestimate what a determined soldier can accomplish when he's fighting for his country."
Like everybody else, I closely observe the media to see if they mention Wes. He is just getting crums now, although the crums are getting a little more frequent. Even C-Span is not re-running his DNC speech, I surmise because they are listing the others' speeches as their "campaign" speeches. I trust Wes completely for having a strategy and a good reason for delaying his entry, but I certainly get tired of hearing them talk about the other three "fron runners". I say others because Wes is also a front runner, they just don't know it yet. His speech today almost had me in tears.

I'm not too worried about the MSM covering Wes as much as they do Hillary and Obama. Heck, remember all the media attention Dean got in the summer of 2003? I think the MSM is one player in the mix this time around. The internet will be big and of course the face 2 face time with voters. Honestly I don't think the majority of Americans watch C-Span, or the news channels so much. Now if Wes were on American Idol....
quite well, I've been told. However the very best would be an announcement commercial during the Super Bowl. (90 Million viewers - with at least a good portion of them sober.)
Wes 08

there was a clip of him singing Calendar Girls with some other guys. He can carry a tune, so we don't have to worry if somebody picks up his voice during the Star Spangled Banner one day.
to have to have a media blitz. We need to let them know that we want to hear about Wes Clark. That we don't think he's getting his fair share of media attention as a Democratic Presidential candidate. True, he hasn't announced yet, but he's still in the mix. Shall we have an e-mail blitz to CNN, MSNBC, and FAUX? Got any takers. I am going to start tonight with the lack of coverage of Wes' speech at the DNC.

I wrote to Candya** Crowley earlier. I try to be polite, but it's hard work, I tell ya! LOL!!

I was so hoping he would end his speech today by saying "The future of this country and the world are why I am running for President."
I am just now seeing Clark's speech and this speech IS a campaign speech! He is talking UP his qualifications!
The ending of his speech is the best part.
Is the reason he was not on tweety's show because the Clintons and other are trying to get him NOT to run? Promising him something?
This is driving me crazy!

are Rove/Bush/Cheney GOP tactics and it speaks for itself - Hillary doesn't believe in democracy she believes in oligarchy/aristocracy
EXCERPT: Hillary Clinton is personally putting out the word that she has no intention of sharing the wealth: "She's calling all the big-hitter fundraisers and saying, 'I want you to understand: NO money to anybody else. You cannot play both sides of the street,'" in the '08 presidential race, says a longtime Democratic operative who has worked for the Clintons in the past but turned down a role in the current campaign, and is so far sitting this one out.

A "Queen" following "King" George. It sounds to me like she really believes in this dynasty crap - all the more reason to support someone else. I'm liking her less and less - and that's saying a lot.
Wes 08

The reason Hillary is able to be in the race, is because Bill can't run again. That person thinks the law should be changed so Bill and Dubya could run against each other. The thought being Bill would win. We all know Rove fixes elections. I thought the point about Hillary's candidacy being based on her marriage to Bill and people somehow thinking they get a de facto Bill candidate to be very insightful. Bottomline, Hillary can't win in Missouri. Another very insightful person blogged at DKos that the reason the Repubicans fear Wes so much is that if he were to win the primary, the Republicans would leave the party in droves. They are the regimented party as John Dean describes in his book. I leader like Wes fits right into their mindset. If Wes can herd the cats in the Democratic party, the moderate Republicans will fall in line.
Term limits are fine the way they stand at the moment, as well as length of terms for Congress. Another two years of a Republican House and we'd have been sunk. Two year terms must stay. And the two-term limit for the POTUS is just right.
Proud to be an American.
I wouldn't mind if the term-limits were applied to the immediate family as well as the president - LOL.
Already 20 years of Bush and Clinton. With Hillary, that would be 24 or 28. Some kids wouldn't know that someone with another name could actually be president.

Bozos from ruining the country, there should be a mid-term (every 2 years) nation-wide poll on the Prez performance. If they aren't up to snuff according to 50% of the voters, they're gone.

and other European countries. When a leader blows it and loses confidence the way Bush has, then a new election should be called.
If you get a really GOOOOD President and the world is running as it should with as little conflict as possible and the air is breathable and water drinkable and progress is happening and we're all (ok so that's how it was before I started paying too much attention to politicians) damn
anyway, Tom Petty says it's good to be King. lol
just how much can a 4term or even 8term President accomplish in those years to have some YOHO Pretzelboy come in and totally erase, destroy and pretty much rewrite all the good that had been done/tried or accomplished as witnesses stared on from the side (that's US - the public) mostly barely being heard. It's amazing how much real DAMAGE one DAMN PRETZELBOY CAN DO! lol argh!
sigh -
With the chances of electronic voting turning election results around - there's now way I would want more than 2 terms for the President.
Six years of Bush & Cheney have done serious damage to our country and world. I'm so scared for the next 2 years. I don't want to even think of them being in office longer than that.
from that article:
"People don't like it, but they're afraid of her." Yet the far more palpable fear for Democrats, discussed constantly, is that she'll have so much money she'll sail to the nomination.
My two cents (or three, as it turns out):
1) People in the party will resent this. Just like the DNC decided ahead of time to make Kerry the nominee, they may well decide to take her down a notch or two (it's not as though the public is clamoring for a Hillary nomination; it's not a fait accompli). As my kids would say, "she's not the boss of them."
2) Hillary knows as well as anybody that not only is it customary for companies and well-connected individuals to donate to many candidates to cover their bases... they generally donate to both parties, even if they do favor one of them. She's nuts if she thinks she can boss people around to the extent of not even "letting" them donate to other Democrats.
3) This is a separate issue, but she really sounds like she's trying too hard. I don't want to close my mind to her ahead of time because I think it's exciting that a woman is a major candidate for the presidency... but so far I'm not really drawn to her.
not drawn at all and not sure if I'll ever be there but I haven't liked many Presidents. Some MUCH more ....... Europeans love Bill Clinton don't they? If they keep it international and run it like Bill's 8 I'm ok and won't move to CAnada or something.
I really would rather have a hero
I think maybe the country is ready for one (or two)

I’ve been going through Molly’s columns from 2002 and 2003, the period when most of the wise men of the press cheered as Our Leader took us to war on false pretenses, then dismissed as “Bush haters” anyone who complained about the absence of W.M.D. or warned that the victory celebrations were premature. Here are a few selections:
Nov. 19, 2002: “The greatest risk for us in invading Iraq is probably not war itself, so much as: What happens after we win? … There is a batty degree of triumphalism loose in this country right now.”

The Healthy Return of the "Al Gore for President" Rumor

Acting with the support of allies, including hopefully Arab and Muslim allies, would limit possible damage to that coalition and our anti-terrorism efforts. But as General Wes Clark, former Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe has recently noted, a premature go-it-alone invasion of Iraq "would super-charge recruiting for Al Qaida."
