“…We’re a nation that has strong values, and we live them….It’s a wonderful country that we’ve been privileged to live in….It’s about having the imagination to dream…and the courage to reach….People are the only thing that makes a difference, and each person makes a difference.” This is just part of what Wes Clark says in answer to a question Hannah Robinson (class of 2010) asks him at Colgate University after his lecture on February 20, 2007.

The students at Colgate have produced a very good video of this interview with Wes. Congratulations to Hannah, and also to her classmate, Brandan Bifano, who edited the video. Thanks also to John Kelly, class of 2008, for his part, and of course to whoever did the actual filming, as well as to all others who had anything to do with this project.

You can see the video, as well as a report about the well-attended lecture here:

http://www.colgate.edu/DesktopDefault1.aspx?tabid=730&pgID=6013&nwID=4957

It includes short interviews with students Christopher Nulty, SGA President, and Heidi Johnson, Co-President of College Democrats.

In part, Christopher says, “I think having someone like this on Campus gets people talking about specific issues…and to also care about what’s happening in the United States today.” Heidi says that Wes, “…was really clear when he answered all the students’ questions….Overall, it was just really great being able to hear someone like him come to campus and share what he knows about the world.”

I wish I was quicker at transcribing, because there is much more in the video. Maybe some of you will pick out some of the other good quotes and post them here.

Clark knows how to speak to ANY group of Americans:  young, old, republican. democrat, independent or green.   He's talking about the dreams and possibilities for every individual American, regardless of party, religion, race, or income.

Clark is the candidate that can bring this country together through his persistent heart, coupled with his brilliant education, record of achievements, consistency, leadership, proven integrity, and, most importantly his respect for everyone, including his opposition, and our so-called "enemies".  He knows how to turn enemies into friends WITHOUT bombing, but through discussion and deliberations.

Sigh....now if just the rest of the voters would take the time to check him out in depth.  Whoops, "in-depth" is a term soon to be deleted from Webster's Dictionary.

Wes Clark can bring us together. You are right about his respect for everyone, including his opposition. I remember being astonished at his wisdom in 2003 when he said, "I'm not running to bash George Bush. A lot of Americans really love him. They love what he represents, a man who's overcome adversity in his life from alcoholism and pulled his marriage back together and — and moved forward. But I'm running because I think this country must have better leadership in moving forward." Wesley K. Clark, reported in The New York Post (24 November 2003)

Of course, the same thing might not be true any longer, as very few Americans now hold Bush in any high regard; but in 2003, it was very true, whether the left liked it or not.

All of us, not just some of us. This video makes that clear.

He really is a true "American Son".

After I read your comment, I had a small epiphany. Namely, maybe I should have referred this to the Generation Whatever team. Oh well. Whatever. ;) Anyway, if you'd like to blog it again here or elsewhere, please do - and make any changes you like - no pride of authorship here.

And 80% Americans believe in God, I didn’t know that… always learning from Gen Clark.

When I was watching this video my parents came to my mind because they left today and they left with a table stand size American flag. Yes, my parents are also proud and are grateful they came to a land of opportunities…

I also have to mention this, I gave my dad a WesPack button I designed (thanks to Knightrider who printed them out ;-) ), actually he asked for it and wanted to keep it because I told him the story behind it...and I think he is very proud of me and likes Gen Clark very much. Sorry, I had to share this special moment and it’s one of those things where I have the freedom to express myself, as Gen Clark emphasized on this video.

Thanks Nick Kelly.

- although, as Wes must have been saying in his lecture, the current administration has set us on a path that will see those opportunities become less and less, unless we work to turn that around. It's great that he sees the underlying faith and strength here in people just like you and your parents, MA3. You're welcome.

I am glad you emphasized what Gen Clark was trying to convey… He does tend to remind me that I was born and I am living in a beautiful country, which I take it for granted sometimes. He is just great…
