Joe Lieberman is at it again

| |

Speak out now!

Joe Lieberman is at it again

After wrongly supporting George W. Bush's strategic blunder of attacking Iraq, and continuing to support Bush's failed policies after the invasion, Senator Joe Lieberman made irresponsible comments this weekend regarding military action against Iran.

On CBS's Face the Nation, Lieberman said, "If [the Iranians] don't play by the rules, we've got to use our force, and to me, that would include taking military action to stop them from doing what they're doing."

This type of "tough-talk" by the Bush Administration and folks like Senator Joe Lieberman is why VoteVets.org and I collaborated to create StopIranWar.com, calling for heavy diplomatic, economic, and political action to discourage the acquisition of nuclear capabilities by the Iranian government.

Over 40,000 people have signed our petition to President Bush, urging him to work with our allies and use every diplomatic, political, and economic option at our disposal to deal with Iran. Add your name to the petition today!

StopIranWar.com.

Senator Lieberman's saber rattling does nothing to help dissuade Iran from aiding Shia militias in Iraq, or trying to obtain nuclear capabilities. In fact, it's highly irresponsible and counter-productive, and I urge him to stop.

This kind of rhetoric is irresponsible and only plays into the hands of President Ahmadinejad, and those who seek an excuse for military action. What we need now is full-fledged engagement with Iran. We should be striving to bridge the gulf of almost 30 years of hostility and only when all else fails should there be any consideration of other options. The Iranians are very much aware of US military capabilities. They don't need Joe Lieberman to remind them that we are the militarily dominant power in the world today.

Only someone who never wore the uniform or thought seriously about national security would make threats at this point. What our soldiers need is responsible strategy, not a further escalation of tensions in the region. Senator Lieberman must act more responsibly and tone down his threat machine.

We cannot let people like Joe Lieberman dictate the terms of this debate.

Sign the petition to President Bush today!

StopIranWar.com

Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

for taking the responsibility to stand up to Senator Lieberman's irresponsible and foolish threats. His judgment, I think is very bad or he has an agenda that serves some purpose other than peaceful conflict resolution.

I find his statements shocking and I appreciate your courage and wisdom in speaking out to hold him accountable.

the man who questioned YOUR Democratic loyalties during the debates last presidential election. Using typical Republic tactics in which they accuse their opponents of exactly what they themselves are guilty of. You are too much a gentleman to throw that little gem back in his face, but we're not! LOL!!

Thank you for all your work trying to stop the next war before it starts General, and providing us the tools to take it on ourselves! Now THAT'S leadership.

General Clark, sir, it was just this kind of saber-rattling that brought me out of a post-stroke depression and into politics for the first time. As a veteran myslf, I couldn't stand the prospect of a pre-emptive war, and I got mad. Your wisdom, vision, and values, as you so eloquently articulated on CNN, then brought me into the Draft Clark Movement, and I remain firmly in your camp for whatever you choose to do.

Would that all politicians were as constant and steadfast in what they believe and propose. You have never wavered from your chosen path, and I feel so honored and humble to be part of your cause and associated with all the wonderful and talented people you have also drawn to your side.

Gen. Clark, can you believe the complete disregard for basic facts by this charlatan? The whole administration up there is seriously in real NEED of some BRAINS!

Thank you Sir for keeping us frosty! I just pray someone with some real power is paying attention to you.

(WTNH) _ The Connecticut for Lieberman Party is calling on Senator Joseph Lieberman to resign from the U.S. Senate following his remarks made Sunday on CBS' Face the Nation regarding military action against Iran.

Lieberman said on the national television program that, "we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians."

The Connecticut for Lieberman Chair, Dr. John Orman, called for Lieberman's resignation saying that he "crossed the line" and "no longer represents the views of the citizens of Connecticut."

Orman, a longtime critic of Lieberman, took control of the minority party back in January.

From Salon

People like Joe Lieberman and the increasing "Bomb Iran" chorus of which he is a part are the precise opposite of "serious" and "tough." They are irresponsible and dangerous extremists and it is good to see Gen. Clark making that point clearly and unapolegetically. If these warmongers are to be impeded in what is plainly their goal of prompting a new war with Iran, only unapologetic rhetoric and candid explanations, like the one offered here from Gen. Clark, will suffice.

there is a "but." This has been all over the blogs today, but nowhere else. If/when you run for President, your comments will be reported. When you become President YOU will have direct influence/control of the policy which will keep America safe without engaging in unnecessary wars or violating our precious Constitution. I remember, in the movie "Field of Dreams," the "voice" saying, "If you build it, he will come." Kevin Costner's character took that on faith and built the baseball field from his corn field--and they came. Well, General, I don't know what your
"preconditions" are, but, IMO, it doesn't matter. If you run, they (and the money) will come.

Hubby and I couldn't believe he said that. Well, I could believe it because that's what I figured that was going to be the official line for dropping any pretext of diplomacy and clearing the way for military action.

Thank you Gen. Clark for speaking out and telling them how the cow ate the cabbage! :)

from DownWith Tyranny!

....Although Bush wore a fancy dress uniform when he was making believe he was serving in some kind of champagne Air National Guard unit for rich people's spoiled brats during the Vietnam War, Cheney and Lieberman just avoided service entirely out of budding selfishness and strongly developed senses of entitlement. If any of the three have thought seriously about national security, it certainly doesn't show in the results.

General Clark, who takes national security very seriously and who has thought about it deeply, asks Lieberman to stop acting like a baboon with his ineffectual saber-rattling towards Iran-- saber rattling that will just strengthen world sentiment against the U.S.-- and increase political cohesion inside Iran.

You are so right, Joe Lieberman and his ilk cannot be allowed to define this debate. Lieberman calls it "just talk." I guess he and Bill "Have a Chat" O'Reilly have the same undersatanding of what diplomacy is. They are dangerously irresponsible. again for continuing to provide leadership on such an important issue - and such a refreshing contrast with such "leaders" as Senator Lieberman.

Elective warfare is blatantly irresponsible - and, I'm sorry to say, the Senator came across as a complete lunatic. I cannot understand why the Democratic leadership, with the exception of yourself, are not front and center on this issue.

Hmmm I guess since Don Rumsfeld resigned someone has to take over.

When I asked people to sign the petition many of them didn’t know the next move will be Iran, and many of them were upset and expressed their disappointment how the war in Iraq was and is still handled... And I only talked to about 100 people and 98% didn’t want to see more wars.

Petition is a great way to remind, educate and let others engage in changing the course towards the right direction.

In addition, why don’t you add more artillery such as opening your own radio or news network station? You will have Bill O’Rielly hide under his desk...
