Politicstv has posted a bit of video of Wes from the America in the World conference on June 12, 2007 on youtube. It's only 4 and a half minutes but it's good, of course.....

YouTube link
"Gen. Clark addressed the America in the World conference in Washington, DC on June 12, 2007. The conference was sponsored by the Century Foundation and the Center for American Progress"

It's also posted in the DU Political Video forum, where you can recommend it.

Enjoy! :)

as usual.

This is only a small bit of what Wes said that day; the discussion of his group went on for about 45 mins, and he had lots to say throughout.

Arky did an excellent summary.

It went on for a long time; 8+ hours.

Loved the 12 years of prep for the short short action against Saddam bit. Thanks for posting.

I don't want to go there." Read The Coming China Wars, byPeter Navarro. It's very interesting reading. Bottomline, China will be the world power this century. Can't say exactly when it will happen, but that's just the way it's gonna be. Of course, Cheney might blow up the world first.

China has a lot of people. We just have to be smarter in our approach to dealing with China. It can't all be about commerce and buying the cheapest things from there. People in China need to have jobs. BushCo has been asleep at the switch, other than making it possible for the wealthy middle men to get even richer off the slave labor and unfair trade practices with China. There's plenty of blame to go around on this one.

We must stop doing what we are doing and find our backbone to stand up to our corporations, the Chinese government and Asian corporations, etc.

The same goes for free trade with any country.

IMO, free trade is the worst economic idea ever thrust upon this country.

Our middle class is dwindling......

China, free trade, and outsourcing are my major pet peeves, along with illegal immigration.

I love that button by northern sun that says something like "Nation of Sheep, Ruled by Thieves, Owned by Pigs".

Protectionism isn't going to stop the rise of China. As for China and the corporations, there's another book that explains about China and trade called China Inc.

As a nation, we've done things like gut the FDA. What are we doing importing foods from China anyway? They have a billion people who need to eat. If American consumers would make it clear they are only going to buy safe quality stuff to our standards, maybe things would change. The only thing corporations and politicians listen to is the power of money.

His hair was a little messed up; how cute! I was too far away to see that in person.

Seriously, I don't know if it's pointed out anywhere, but I think this clip was where Wes essentially interrupted and stole back the floor because Gordon Adams had claimed that the people who say we need a larger military had never done any legitimate analysis. Wes was literally jumping out of his chair because he was so anxious to respond to what Gordon had said.

because Wes and gazilions of others had been doing just such analyses, forever, anticipating/planning for the unknown future. Wes has been hired for his masterful skills at projecting and planning for future situations.

'mornin, shortie!
