BRICK TEEVEE: Tryptophan-induced Black Friday Edition

By popular demand, Brick TeeVee is moving off the General Discussion thread on Saturday Night Clark-After-Dark to its very own blog entry. Here we can blog about what we saw and heard on the Sunday Gab-fests. And, as a bonus, we can also post stories about the outrageous claims made on Sunday, deciphered by other Poly-Sci "analysts", from MSM and well-respected bloggers, that come out Monday.

So, with no further ado, I present to you This Week's Brick TeeVee entry!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

As we recuperate from Black Friday and tryptophan-induced snoozing, we wake to more presidential horse race blather. The usual suspects are "out there". Watch CRAZY TRAIN MCCAIN tell George Steph about the low low prices of Iraqi rugs and the "enhanced" security in Baghdad (did any of you have a full platoon w/ helicopter strike group escort you to the mall?). Stay tuned as BILL RICHARDSON then tries to buy some rugs from MCCAIN who marks them up 500%! Face the Bob takes a break and Meet the Tim has a Beltway Roundtable featuring the RAJIN' CAJUN and his traitorous spouse EX-WHIG MATALIN. Rounding out the Presidential Horse Race, it's "Bomb them all" FRED THOMPSON ON fauxnews and Reverand HUCKABEE w/ wolfie. Stay tuned to WolfMan as CARL LEVIN battles Lindsey Graham on the Occupation and it goes something like this: LEVIN: "It's a disaster of monumental proportion that will take years, decades to resolve." GRAHAM: "I know Mike Huckabee and you're no Mike Huckabee." Turn it all off and enjoy MASSA IN THE MORNING and later on, a Special Sam Seder Book Club Show featuring NAOMI KLEIN. Throw bricks at the usual suspects and save some for THE EAGLES (on 60 Minutes) for selling their new album only at Wal-Mart. The Brick TeeVee Plumbers called in the heavy equipment and Mr. Sewer Rooter to remove tree roots from the main sanitary sewer going to the street and now waste water flows like lies out of the MisAdministration! Next up for The Plumbers: a "lazy flush" toilet! Everything else had failed thus far so it's The Muriatic Acid Treatment (which new AG Mukasey hasn't yet decided if it's torture or not).

Since the Hollywood Writers Strike began, This Week is not running their usual feature "Sunday Funnies", clips from Leno, Letterman, etc.

I SAY have Stephonopoulus tell bad jokes or show Political Editorial Cartoons. Heck even just the Sunday Doonesbury would be fine! Or invite Andy Borowitz to read his latest!

HA!

WTF would they do that? Cripes-o-rama!

I like the idea of having Borowitz on teevee!! Now if there was such a thing as a "liberal" media, and they had him on, can you imagine the howls, screams and cries that would ensue form the regressives! LOL!! It would be a beautiful thing, wouldn't it?! Maybe they'd get a clue how we feel about their "heros" that are all over the bloody airwaves spewing hate and lies. Except Borowitz isn't hateful and is hysterically funny. Maybe we should start a letter campaign to Stephonopoulus suggesting that in place of the "Sunday Funnies!"

Breaking News: “Exclusive” Wal-Mart Eagles Album Not So Exclusive @ RS
11/7/07

When the Eagles announced that they would exclusively sell their new double album Long Road Out of Eden for an entire year at Wal-Mart (and their own Web site), fans across the nation — especially those in Wal-Mart-less towns like New York City and Los Angeles — wondered how they’d get their hands on copy without journeying to the retail giant. But then we heard whispers that people were finding the new “exclusive” album at small mom-and-pop record stores and, remarkably, big chains like Virgin Megastore. We investigated these claims and discovered that the CDs are indeed being sold outside of Wal-Mart. Not only that, it didn’t take speakeasy tactics to secure a copy; some stores were boasting the album by the dozen in front display cases, where new releases are usually showcased (see above, a shot from a New York City Virgin Megastore boasting a price sticker of $18.99). “We’re aware of that — I’ve heard that some stores here are selling imports,” Billboard charts editor Geoff Mayfield tells Rolling Stone. “Someone told me it was the third-best seller for Virgin.”

We called eight Virgin Megastores in five different states, and discovered seven had Long Road in stock, although none of them had the album prominently listed in their in-store inventory directories. Of the Virgins carrying the album, most started selling it today, one week after the album’s release, while two said they started selling the CDs on October 30th, the same day as the “exclusive” Wal-Mart on-sale date, with one store even “selling out” their fairly large stock. The fact that the albums were selling out came as a surprise, considering the CD at Virgin came with price tags ranging from $18.99 to $24.99. While it is a double CD, the price is strikingly higher than Wal-Mart’s tag of $11.88. When we asked one clerk why the album was so expensive at Virgin, and whether the discs might be imports, he whispered into the phone that he “thinks they were hard to get.” A small record store in Nebraska told us they were re-selling discs that were purchased at Wal-Mart. The question now is, how did Virgin Megastore get their hands on the album, and did these sales contribute to the Eagles’ Billboard chart-topping 711,000 copies? Mayfield says, “SoundScan was [also] aware that this was happening. They audited the data to weed out double sales.” A comment from Virgin Megastore wasn’t available by press time.
-Daniel Kreps and Evan Serpick

yeah, hard to believe da Eagles would take that route, considering the album's content is decidedly ANTI-corporate.

This makes no sense.

OTOH The Eagles were BIG PROPONENTS of the RIAA stance in the File Sharing Lawsuit and thought (even tho' their songs' copyrights were owned by a corporation, not by the Eagles) downloaders were EVIL and owed them MONEY!
(Check this Google Search for more RIAA lawsuits.)

I'm really depressed The Eagles would work this angle.
;-(

TOPIC: Middle East "U.S.-hosted Middle East peace conference in Annapolis, MD"
ROUNDTABLE OF AUTHORS: Gen. Anthony Zinni (USMC-Ret.), Robin Wright (WaPo), Rick Atkinson (WaPo), Lawrence Wright (WaPo)

From Reuters Africa:
Hezbollah dismisses Annapolis talks as "media show"
Sun 25 Nov 2007

BEIRUT, Nov 25 (Reuters) - Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group said on Sunday a U.S.-hosted Middle East peace conference this week was only a "media show" in support of Israel.

The United States aims to relaunch peace talks on Palestinian statehood at Tuesday's conference in Annapolis, Maryland, that will bring together Arabs and Israelis.

Shi'ite Muslim Hezbollah, backed by Israel's sworn enemies Syria and Iran, is one of several Arab militant groups which do not recognise Israel. Its guerrillas fought a 34-day war against Israel last year.

"He who looks at the preparations for the Annapolis conference finds that it has no gains for the Palestinians. It is a media-political show in favour of Israel," Hezbollah deputy chief Shiekh Naim Kassem told a rally in Beirut.

He said the conference aimed at propping up some Palestinian leaders, a clear reference to President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Arab League agreed on Friday to attend the meeting in the hope of promoting the creation of a Palestinian state and pushing for the return of occupied Syrian land. (Writing by Nadim Ladki; editing by Elizabeth Piper)

The Carpetbagger Report

On ABC’s “This Week,” John McCain was in self-congratulatory mode. It was actually kind of embarrassing.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Yet one of them, Governor Richardson — he’s coming up next — says there’s no way, no way the government is finally going to get its act together and make these compromises unless we tell them we’re going to leave and give a date certain.

MCCAIN: No, that was what they said six months ago, that there was no way we were going to succeed militarily unless we told the Iraqi government that we were leaving.

Look, their record is wrong on this. My record is right, of opposition to the failed strategy that former Secretary Rumsfeld was employing, and advocacy of the one that’s succeeding now. (emphasis added)

Now, it’s hard to say whether McCain knows better (in which case he was lying), or whether he actually believes this nonsense (in which case he’s delusional), but either way, for McCain to suggest his record on Iraq has been right all along is just absurd.

His record is actually one of one mistake after another. There’s the pre-war predictions…

Sen. McCain on CNN on Sept. 24, 2002: “I believe that the success will be fairly easy.”

Sen. McCain on CNN on Sept. 29, 2002: “We’re not going to have a bloodletting of trading American bodies for Iraqi bodies.”

Sen. McCain on [MSNBC] on Jan. 22, 2003: “We will win this conflict. We will win it easily.”

…and his post-invasion assurances. In December 2003, McCain praised Bush’s strategy as “a mission accomplished.” In March 2004, he said, “I’m confident we’re on the right course.” In December 2005, he said, “Overall, I think a year from now, we will have made a fair amount of progress if we stay the course.” (all 3 links=ThinkProgress)

McCain concluded his misguided bragging by saying, “It’s got to do with experience.” If he meant experience in getting the entire war policy backwards, McCain’s experience is second to none.

for bringing us Brick TV! And for placing it as a separate blog, I like that new plan. It always makes for an amusing, entertaining read... now if the shows were only half as fun to watch as the blog is to read... Heh.

I didn't watch any of them this week-- had a working weekend.
