Carl Bernstein said about Barack Obama "he had a kind of free ride up until now"

Rapid Response
Hello Everyone:
In watching news coverage of the Iowa caucuses, I have seen a lot of interesting analysis which confirms to me that Barack Obama won in Iowa NOT really based on his substance on the issues, on his electability, and on his qualifications to be President BUT rather because of his getting a free ride from the press and also because of his highly charasmatic appeal!
Here is what Carl Bernstein said on CNN yesterday about Obama's free ride in the press compared to Hillary Clinton who the press has been tougher on:

CARL BERNSTEIN, AUTHOR, "A WOMAN IN CHARGE": "In a total coincidence, said you know in the change department Hillary can't match Obama. This is the problem and at the same time you also have the press, which is not inclined at this point to give many breaks to the Clinton campaign because they feel that they've been dealt with very heavy handedly, at the same time Obama now is going to be subjected to the kind of vetting, he had a kind of free ride up until now.
He's going to really get a hard look now..."
I knew that this was the case all along which I have credibly documented:

Obama’s historic win?
Posted: 06:54 PM ET
FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:
Barack Obama’s huge win in Iowa last night was characterized this way by Peggy Noonan in the Wall Street Journal this morning: “His takedown of Mrs. Clinton was the softest demolition in the history of falling buildings.”
But make no mistake. A demolition it was. What we don’t know yet is whether Obama’s victory was an anomaly created by the polarizing nature of Hillary Clinton combined with the widespread opposition to President Bush or whether we saw the start of something truly historic last night. I will wager you this: if he wins, students in classrooms around the country will be listening to Obama’s victory speech last night 20 years from now. It was beyond brilliant.
It’s not just that Obama won, it’s how he did it. The huge turnout of voters and first-time caucus-goers. His overwhelming win among young people and independents. He even beat Hillary Clinton among women. This all suggests something very important may have happened last night. Americans may have made the first tiny steps on the road to taking back their country
It’s a long way from over. But if Obama can come out of New Hampshire with two wins under his belt and head into South Carolina on January 26 where that state’s huge black population will have its first real chance to vote for one of their own… well, watch out.
Here’s my question to you: What does Barack Obama’s huge win in the Iowa caucuses mean?
Interested to know which ones made it on air?
E. writes:
His speech was amazingly inspirational. I was an Obama supporter before last night, but WOW! I have watched it 3 times and it is better each time. How nice it would be, after 7 years of illiterate mumbling and ignorant posturing, to have an eloquent, credible speaker. I listen to him and feel the same way I do when I listen to the “I have a dream speech” Moved, proud and inspired. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I am a white, Jewish girl born in Queens, NY.
Stefanie writes:
What it means for me is that for the first time in my voting life, I am not voting for “good enough” or “not the other guy.” It means that I awakened this morning in a nation in which the dream may not be deferred all that much longer. It means that a good man with a dream and specific plans to achieve it can be recognized as a leader. It means that more people may be on the precipice of making their voices heard.
Chris writes:
Obama’s win in Iowa meant nothing to me. Sure he has the ability to make great speeches, but look at his sub-par performances in the debates. Despite what he says, I think he needs more experience. Let him sit in the Senate for a few more terms, then maybe I’ll vote for him. But for now, give me Hillary.
Brian writes:
In one word, everything. Obama emerges as the true agent of change. It makes New Hampshire an actual fight and turns the South Carolina primary into the true bellwether whistle of this primary season. It means the first black president. It means everything.
Jim from Seguin, Texas writes:
Jack, What it means is that when the voters are “hands on” in an election, the result is vastly different than when corporations are in charge of our electronic voting equipment, for instance the 2004 election. And it is obvious the voters want CHANGE! To get change, however, we will have to fight for it rather than just sitting back and hoping for the best–because that bus is never going to get here!

Only one person whose comment was read said about Obama that "I think he needs more experience" when all of the other positive Obama responses were based totally on an emotional appeal and on his personal charisma!
People in my opinion need to be looking at the issues and at Barack Obama's qualifications to be President first instead of voting for him based on an emotional appeal and his personal charisma because it is definitely the issues and his qualifications that will determine whether he is qualified to be President or not and which candidate is best qualified to be President:

Barack Obama being considered to be a so-called Democratic "rock star" and "media darling" will definitely NOT solve these kind of very tough and complex foreign policy problems that Bush ON PURPOSE is making as difficult as he possibly can for the next President!
I am an emotional person and I have feelings BUT I base my good feelings on what I know to be true factually. I am NOT inspired by Barack Obama because I have NOT seen any substance from him regarding his qualifications to be President, on the issues, and on his lack of electability:

"Only one person whose comment was read said about Obama that "I think he needs more experience" when all of the other positive Obama responses were based totally on an emotional appeal and on his personal charisma!"
is what makes me crazy. It is completely true. Even here in IL...I'll give you a couple of samples.
Early on when the circus started touring, and even my most intelligent and aware friends were gleefully bouncing up and down on their toes (in two cases, literally) I ventured a question: "Can you tell me why it is you want this man to be president - and you cannot use the words hope or inspiration, or permutations of same." And I was looked at as if I was a big kill-joy meany. I remember getting alot of sly grins and, "wells..." that drifted off into nothing. A couple of girlie giggles (that in and of itself tells me nothing about the candidate, and more about the women I was speaking to at the time) and in one case, a "that's not a fair question!" OK.
Second example: "Oh, I think I'm gonna go for Obama."
"Why?" I ask.
"Well," then stammered, "Well, I think he'd be good for Chicago...and um, Illinois."
"Because he'd done so much of what for us so far, please?" I counter.
"Well. Yeah."
That same day was when I got the "he's been busy running for President!" response when I queried about his lack of committee work...and the guy was serious.
These people, for the record, were born around the time I was in high school. They aren't policy wonks, not even wonk-ish, not a wonk molecule between them. They are young professionals, just beginning their climb up the corporate ladders in their respective industries. A couple of them are bright, young attorneys.
One of my older friends, just turned 40, who has a background as a speech writer (is now a copy writer) just "hungers for chaaaaaaaaange. I want change soooo bad."
My opinion is that he's living in a fools paradise. But that's just my own opinion, and hey - if he's happy with that piece of real estate, so be it.
I guess it comes down to a sort of simple answer, at least among those I bump into on a pretty regular basis.
They love the packaging. Most of these people have never seen an 8-track tape. They grew up with PC's, CD's and cell phones. To them, a fax machine is a relic. They're a whole new Red Bull Generation. Those of us who wanted to 'teach the world to sing' in perfect harmony, and who have already learned, the hard way, that there are NO saviors in politics, that there are NO demi-gods who walk the earth, no super-humans who can possibly do everything you want them to do for you, just because they say they can - those of us who know from hard learned lessons just how mean and void of compassion the upper echelons of government can be, especially when moving in lock step with a forth estate brought to it's knees by the almighty advertising dollar - we seem to be on the wrong side. Somehow, those who fought for civil, equal and human rights, those people who marched at Selma, who were tear-gassed by the cops in Chicago in '68, you're not on the right side anymore. You're not smart enough, you're not aware enough, you're just establishment.
And what they seem to forget is that no matter how hard they believe, how much they desire and hope for change...they aren't gonna get it this way. But they don't want your advice, they've found The Way. The Savior. The Agent of Change.
Just what he'd do to make that happen, none of them can tell me. Most seem to imply that just by His Very Presence, it will happen. The neo-cons will be thrown from the temple. The Republican Wall will crumble at his feet, and the liberals will rule the earth.
Be careful what you wish for.
If they really truly Believe that this man will do that for them, I'm afraid reality will out. They will be disappointed. I will join them in their disappointment. I will be disappointed too. But I will not be surprised.

to support Clinton?
That is a very easy question to answer in my opinion!
Here are 7 good answers for you that I can think of right now:
1) Credible polls show that Hillary Clinton is the most electable general election candidate:

2) Hillary Clinton's high negative numbers that her opponents refer to are really just an illusion right now compared to Barack Obama, John Edwards, or to any other Democrat because she has already stood up to all that Rush Limbaugh and the very powerful Neocon Republican attack machine can dish out while no other Democrat running for President right now has done that yet!
Barack Obama and John Edwards have not been attacked and swiftboated by the other side yet even close to the same degree that Bill and Hillary Clinton have been so far so how those swiftboat attacks will affect their public negative numbers is still unknown while that is definitely not an unknown for Hillary:

3) Bill and Hillary Clinton have already proven that they have the strength and toughness that it takes to fight back against enemy swiftboat attacks and they will not put up with any crap from the other side to negatively define them. This is exactly what happened to John Kerry in 2004 which helped to cost him that election:

ANALYSIS: Why I think that Obama would be a very weak general election candidate
Submitted by Mitch Dworkin on September 24, 2007 - 9:01am.

Which one is the weaker of the two candidates. Obama is a lot easier to swiftboat because of his lack of experience. Just one of the things I sure they will mention. I can come up with a few more but I will not mention it on Weses site. Hillary knows how corp press operates. And she is used to taking the heat. But Obama who knows what he will do? Might he roll over like Kerry? It might even make it easier for them to steal another election. The Repubs are desperate. They don't have a record to stand on. So they have to lie about other people just to build themselves up.
need to be asked RIGHT NOW in the primary as opposed to in the general election IF he is the nominee!
Obama's Personal charisma and his emotional appeals will NOT answer these kind of tough questions which will come up from the other side during the general election which is why Obama needs to tell us right now how he will answer them IF he is the nominee:

BASH: They're being very careful on the money issue, because that is just a political danger zone, as you said, the third rail of Iraq politics, but there is such intense jockeying. You know, we always knew this was going to be the place to watch because there's so many Democrats in the Senate, Republicans, too, but especially Democrats, running for president and just this week, I mean, what you saw, especially between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. We knew Hillary Clinton was going to come out with her legislation in the morning. The same day she did, I saw Barack Obama in the hallway and I said, are you going to be for a cap in the troops? Are you going to have your own bill and he was very noncommittal, saying well, I don't know. We have to wait and see, within minutes, within minutes of Hillary Clinton coming out with her proposal. We got a press release from Barack Obama. He too supports capping the number of troops in Iraq. So, they are so watching each other and really circling each other. And we are so far away from when this really gets intense. It's going to be quite a place to watch up here with people..."

He is being set up.
Prediction: You will not see any serious harsh critical analysis of Barack Obama during the primary season from any major mainstream outlets. He will have a magic glow of immunity from scrutiny by the mainstream press. Should that be enough to carry him over to get the nomination, and we can't underestimate the power of the talkers, the tide will turn after that and the unleashing will be -- well, what we've come to know and love from our GOP Rove-trained brethren. Brutal and unceasing. He would be entering the race at that point as virginal as snow and his people had better be prepared in a profound manner to handle what will come at them.

The media have a new pet. Look out.

I have said for some time that they (the press) were pushing Hillary) and then along came Obama. Once Hillary was at the top they (corp press) would start tearing her to shreds. The same will happen to Obama if he is our nominee. I can guarantee it. Corp Press knows that it will be a lot easier to swift boat Obama and get their man Romney in there.
I just looked at the Pollster.com sight and Huckabee is leading in my Feb 5th state. Guilliani had been leading here a few months ago. By looking at a lot of these polls though I noticed that Hillary had a commanding lead. Especially in California and Nevada. She has a slight lead over Edwards here in Oklahoma. So I think that the media has their work cut out for them and they know it. I think it will be make or break in the Feb 5th states. I haven't made up my mind yet who I am going to support. But all of this stuff happening makes me want to support Hillary. I will not let myself be brainwashed by the media.

It would be really nice if they were talking about a candidate's qualifications instead of ONLY their charisma and emotional appeal:
Obama's popularity soars - in Germany...
MCCAIN, ROMNEY BATTLE IN NH STRETCH

Published: January 6, 2008
BERLIN: Barack Obama's popularity extends far beyond Iowa and into the heart of Central Europe. Germany has swiftly developed a serious case of Obama-mania.
Obama's high standing goes beyond his opposition to the Iraq War, which has always been unpopular here. The sudden crush is intimately bound up with the near constant comparisons here between the young senator from Illinois and President John F. Kennedy - still admired in Germany and particularly in Berlin - which have stuck fast as his identity in the German press.
The Berliner Morgenpost over the weekend ran with the headline, "The New Kennedy." The tabloid Bild went with, "This Black American Has Become the New Kennedy!"
An editorial in the Frankfurter Rundschau went one historic president better with a headline that read simply: "Lincoln, Kennedy, Obama," adding that "hope and optimism" are "the source of the nation's strength."
Obama's newfound popularity among Germans underscores not only the breadth of his appeal but also the opportunity he might have as president - though he is still far from the White House, much less his party's nomination - to mend fences abroad as well as at home.
"There are similarities between JFK's time and today," said Karsten Rossow, 49, of Berlin, who was visiting the small Kennedy Museum by the Brandenburg Gate on a dark, snowy afternoon Sunday with his wife. "People are ready for the politics of change."
His wife, Änne Rossow, added that "after so much disappointment" - she was referring to the Bush administration - "one seizes on these liberal ideals."
While all of Europe keeps a close eye on U.S. elections, Germans learned to pay particularly close attention because of the influence that America had as both occupier and protector after World War II. That is true not only for supporters but also for detractors on the political left, who held furious demonstrations against the Vietnam War and the nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union...
The IHT emailed that story out this evening. The story also includes:
During the Cold War, West Germany was dependent on the United States, nowhere more so than in West Berlin. President Kennedy is remembered here for the support that he gave the city as the Berlin Wall was built during his presidency in 1961, crystallized in his "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech.
At least its nice that they remember.

Contrast this with Obama who begins running for President after serving only 2 years in the US Senate, (just like John Edwards).
More importantly,
JFK was elected to take over at the close of the prosperous EISENHOWER YEARS. Not to take over the damaged goods resulting from the George W. Bush years.

the general election IF he is the nominee that definitely need to be asked RIGHT NOW in my opinion!
Gloria Borger of CNN also talks about "They say that we in the media have given Barack Obama bit of a free ride" to which Jack Cafferty replied "It's the media's fault:"

THE SITUATION ROOM
Interview With Presidential Candidate John Edwards; Iowa Winners Look For Repeat in New Hampshire
Aired January 4, 2008 - 18:00 ET
JEFFREY TOOBIN, CNN SENIOR ANALYST: "She has a very hard decision to make because there are negative attacks you can make on Barack Obama, which are good attacks. He's very liberal. He voted for gun control in the Iowa states, in the Illinois State Senate. He had one of the most liberal voting records in a fairly liberal state.
He changed his positions on some issues like health care. He used to be for single payer plan, now he's not. He had different views on Iraq at different times.
Is he a flip-flopper? Is he too far to the left? Those are arguments you are certainly going to hear if he's a general election nominee, why isn't she making them now?
GLORIA BORGER, CNN SR. POLITICAL ANALYST: You know, the Clinton campaign people make a very good point. They say that we in the media have given Barack Obama bit of a free ride, compared to the way that we treat --
JACK CAFFERTY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: It's the media's fault..."
because you think that inspiration will be too much of a risk?" is what Gloria Borger of CNN asked about Obama in the transcript below!
I liked the answer to that which Lou Dobbs gave "Lord, may we not have to make that choice in 2008."
How anyone can take a chance as stupid as that when there will probably be no room for any margin of error on 1/20/09 when the next President inherits Bush's mess is beyond me!

LOU DOBBS THIS WEEK
New Hampshire Primary; U.S. Trade Policy
Aired January 6, 2008 - 18:00 ET
LOU DOBBS, HOST: "Joining me now for more on the primary election and the sort of earthquake conclusion to it, two members of the best political team anywhere, senior political analyst Bill Schneider, senior political analyst Gloria Borger. Good to have you both here. Great job last night.
Let me start going with you. Obama blew the doors out.
GLORIA BORGER, CNN SENIOR POLITICAL ANALYST: He did. Honestly, Lou, I have never heard a speech like that after the Iowa caucus. And I think the truth of the matter is, Obama's playing a different game. Hillary Clinton -- it's such a generational shift that we're seeing. Hillary Clinton's speech, while very gracious, Hillary was talking about I've got the most support, I've got the most money, I'm inevitable, I should be president. She was still saying that.
Obama was sort of rising above it all in a very post-partisan way. And it was inspirational. So the question is do you want inspiration? Or do you really want competence because you think that inspiration will be too much of a risk?
DOBBS: Lord, may we not have to make that choice in 2008.
BILL SCHNEIDER, CNN SENIOR POLITICAL ANALYST: It's possible to be inspiring and competent, I think..."

in the general election IF he is the 2008 Democratic nominee!
People should base their decision on who they will vote for based on these kind of issues as opposed to personal charisma and an emotional appeal in my opinion!
If I could spot all of these things, then the 2008 GOP nominee, The RNC, the Neocon GOP attack machine, Rush Limbaugh, extreme right wing talk radio, Drudge, FOX News, and company will probably be able to see them as well.
They will use all of these things to swiftboat Obama and negatively define him as a candidate to the entire country which is exactly what they did to John Kerry in 2004:
