VIDEO: Chris Matthews said "I Felt This Thrill Going Up My Leg" As Obama Spoke!

Hello Everyone:

Here is the video link where Chris Matthews said "I have to tell you, you know, it's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often:"

Keith Olbermann tells Chris Matthews "steady" in this video as he is so excited saying this and Chris Matthews ends this by calling it an "objective assessment."

I have credibly and thoroughly documented that Chris Matthews has been very biased against Hillary Clinton in this campaign so far:

Below that is the NewsBusters story about this incident which contains a transcript of Chris Matthews making this comment!

Please forward this information on so that all people will know that Chris Matthews is definitely biased against Hillary Clinton and that he is NOT credible in his reporting.  Anything negative that he says about Hillary or anything positive that he says about Barack Obama definitely has to be taken with a grain of salt in my opinion because he is clearly NOT a truly objective reporter or journalist!

Last night during MSNBC's Potomac Primary coverage, Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann were discussing Barack Obama's speech. Matthews — who, in the past, has both cried over an Obama speech and compared him to Jesus — described exactly what happens to him when Obama speaks:

Matthews: Obama Speech Caused 'Thrill Going Up My Leg'

By Brad Wilmouth | February 13, 2008 - 03:37 ET

During MSNBC's live coverage of Tuesday's presidential primary elections, after the speeches of Barack Obama and John McCain had aired, Chris Matthews expressed his latest over the top admiration for Obama's speaking skills as the MSNBC anchor admitted that Obama's speech created a "thrill" in his leg: "It's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often." Minutes later, Brian Williams poked fun at Matthews' confession: "Let's talk about that feeling Chris gets up his leg when Obama talks ... That seems to be the headline of this half hour." (Transcript follows)

At about 10:13 p.m., right after McCain finished his speech, which came after Obama's speech, co-anchor Keith Olbermann remarked that, due to Obama's unusual speaking skills, it was a good idea for any other speaker to speak before the Illinois Democrat instead of after him. Matthews then expressed what he referred to as an "objective assessment" of Obama's speech:

I have to tell you, you know, it's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often. No, seriously. It's a dramatic event. He speaks about America in a way that has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with the feeling we have about our country. And that is an objective assessment.

After complimenting Obama for praising McCain's heroism, Matthews delivered a pessimistic assessment of McCain's situation as well as that of the Virginia Republican party:

But I just think that McCain's problem is he's over 70, he's standing there with John Warner, who's much older than him. He's standing with Tom Davis, who's retiring. He looks like an army in retreat in Virginia. That's what it looks like tonight. The Virginia Republican party used to own that state. They could elect people that are not particularly likable. They were able to do that in the past. Now they're having a hard time even fielding a candidate against Mark Warner.

Olbermann soon brought aboard Williams, who started off making fun of Matthews (much like his colleage Joe Scarborough did Wednesday morning)

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2008/02/13/scarborough-hillarys-wolfson-might-have-feeling-running-down-his-l

WILLIAMS: Well, let's talk about that feeling Chris gets up his leg when Obama talks, for starters.
OLBERMANN: No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
WILLIAMS: That seems to be the headline of this half hour.
MATTHEWS, laughing: Let it stand, then. Don't tread on it, Brian, if it's a good line.

Below is a transcript of the relevant portions of the Tuesday February 12 coverage of the presidential primaries from MSNBC:

KEITH OLBERMANN: John McCain speaking after his three victories in the Potomac primaries tonight, from Alexandria, Virginia, to the tunes of Johnny B. Goode, instrumental only. And in a statement which I hope transcends political orientation and party affiliation and all that, I would think, Chris, as we start to analyze what we have heard here, the rule has to be, if you can, always speak before Barack Obama, not after Barack Obama.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: I have to tell you, you know, it's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often.
OLBERMANN: Steady.
MATTHEWS: No, seriously. It's a dramatic event. He speaks about America in a way that has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with the feeling we have about our country. And that is an objective assessment. John McCain is a hero. I thought it was very appropriate that Barack Obama extended that fact-
OLBERMANN: And very savvy.
MATTHEWS: -to an audience of people who were very probably liberal and probably anti-Republican. He said this is an American hero I'm running against. And then, of course, he went in to delineate his differences with him. It shows a lot of class. I think there will be class if there is such a contest come this coming summer. The former governor's going to run for that Senate seat of John Warner's, no relation, and it's going to be very tough for them.
...
OLBERMANN: Where do we start with this? Brian, we haven't spoken to you tonight. Simply on the results here, are we clearer about where each of these primaries are going, how soon we will get to the nominees in both cases?
BRIAN WILLIAMS: Well, let's talk about that feeling Chris gets up his leg when Obama talks, for starters.
OLBERMANN: No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
WILLIAMS: That seems to be the headline of this half hour.
MATTHEWS (laughing): Let it stand, then. Don't tread on it, Brian, if it's a good line.

Chris Matthews and many pundits in the mainstream media are being very clearly unprofessional when it comes to the goal of being truly objective journalists and these links show that the current state of the media is definitely a broken system right now in my opinion!

It is nice to see that at least a few of these media pundits are being honest about the role that they are playing in this election as I have documented:

First of all, ew.

Secondly, I don't get it. I don't get thrills when I hear people speak. I hear General Clark speak and I enjoy it, and I appreciate the truth and wisdom, but I don't have a visceral response to it the way Matthews is describing. I suppose I could analyze it as some atavistic pack animal attraction to a charismatic leader. But come on people, let's evolve.

I'm especially surprised to hear someone who has heard and written as many political speeches as Chris Matthews say that. He knows what a speech is. He knows how manipulation is used. He knows about the rhythm and the arc and how it is supposed to create an effect. And yet, all of those techniques still work on him. I don't understand how he can't see a speech for what it is.

that's precisely why he said it- he is just lovingly icing the cake he's helping to create - He seems to have de-volved from a Boy Wonder type into a sort of a spiritual vacuum or vortex spun around jealousy & envy- which makes no sense because he really has access to an amazing world, one that eludes 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999% of the population, and a world which he helps shape in a funhouse or freakshow mirror kind of way.

Pity he uses his platform in such a manipulative way.

The medium is the message. Spacebook Rulz.

I really enjoyed this post of yours, Reg! More, more.

 Hardbrawl
Candid Talker Chris Matthews Pulls No Punches

By Howard Kurtz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, February 14, 2008; C01

Last fall, as network executives, members of Congress and other hotshots gathered beneath a massive tent at Washington's Decatur House to celebrate the 10th anniversary of "Hardball," Chris Matthews began to address the crowd.

Dispensing with the usual platitudes about his MSNBC show, Matthews vowed not to be silenced by Bush administration officials. And he let loose with this broadside: "They've finally been caught in their criminality."

The political community was soon abuzz: Did you hear what Chris said? What criminality was he talking about? Could he really be fair in moderating the following week's Republican presidential debate?

"I did it on purpose," Matthews says now. "I wanted to make a statement that we had a purpose on the show -- to tell the truth."

On his show, on the street, on the phone, on the party circuit, this 62-year-old refugee from Democratic politics wants to tell you what he thinks. Now. Right away. Not after the next commercial break. Not after the guest finishes talking. He blurts out what's on his mind, seemingly without a filter. And that quality, which is the essence of his television success, also keeps getting him into trouble.

That's precisely what happened last month when Matthews said on his show that Hillary Clinton owed her political career to sympathy stemming from her husband's infidelity. He eventually offered a mea culpa , but in some ways the dust-up was classic Matthews: operating on the edge, praising and prodding and poking people in the eye.

That has always been his formula. "You know he's saying exactly what he thinks -- that's the whole trick," says Tammy Haddad, the show's former executive producer. "You know it's coming straight from his gut. That's what his appeal has always been."

Somewhere, the media lost their sense that their job was to report the news, not shape and create it. So, now we have an easily duped public, who blithely spends tons of their earning power on junk, tracks the latest celebridiocies, and spends more time worrying about whether a baseball player took steroids then they do about world hunger, Darfur, or global climate change.

We're losing a real sense of depth as a nation. I hope we get it back.

Thrills going up legs forsooth.

I must admit, this absolutely creeps me out. Obama's a gifted guy, no doubt about it, but I have to wonder, what happens when the charisma wears off? It feels like a huge case of infatuation.

Maybe I'm wrong - maybe there's a ton of substance under all of that style - but if Obama can't bring enough substance to *equal* the style (which would be an incredible amount of substance), I'm afraid the media will eat him for lunch. "Obama is all talk." "Hope wears thin" and so on.
