Hillary In Lyndhurst OH-With Wes Clark! Yes We Will!

|

My daughter Leah called this evening, excitement in her voice. "Dad, we just left the Hillary Clinton rally and guess who was there- Wes Clark!" (She knew that would get me goin'.) She and three of her Kenyon friends made the two-hour drive from Gambier to Lyndhurst just as soon as classes were over for the afternoon. Of course, I wanted the highlights, so here's a very brief SHA (Secondhand account).

By the time they arrived at Brush High School, the gymnasium was full to capacity, so they had to watch on a TV monitor in the cafeteria. Governor Ted Strickland, Rep. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, and Wes Clark provided the introductions. Stephanie talked of her own hard-working parents, of knowing Hillary for fifteen years, and of her knowledge that Hillary will work hard and fight for working people. She said that she goes to church on Sunday for inspiration, but on Monday, she goes to the office, and wants a leader who can and will get things done. General Clark talked about our needing a leader who understands national security, the economy, and the real issues of working people, and how that leader is Hillary Clinton.
Hillary spoke for about half an hour, explaining her approach to all her signature issues- health care, the housing and mortgage problems, taking care of veterans, getting out of Iraq the right way, trade policies and the exporting of jobs, Bush and the oil interests and their subsidies, global warming, energy, and green collar jobs.On health care, she got a rousing round of approval when she talked of getting the decision-making back to the doctors and their patients, and away from the insurance companies.
Hillary spoke of how we can get these things accomplished, and we will, whereupon the crowd picked up the chant, "Yes we will, Yes we will!"

Afterwards, Leah and her friends made their way into the auditorium, where Hillary was trying to meet and greet those who couldn't get into the gymnasium. She said they got pretty close, but didn't get to shake hands. Got a good photo though!

Thanks for the report! I guess Wes kind of snuck that one in without much notice!

LYNDHURST? I'm 15 min from there. Back in the day, North High played Brush in the Greater Cleveland Conference. And we kicked their ass!

Thanks for the heads up, WesPac.

ONE email would have been nice. My Draft-Elect-Clark-OH list is still viable and I have gotten ONE opt-out since I began sending out announcements in 2003-4.

Damn.

If Clark is in CLE OH (or NE OH or Anywhere, Ohio) for the weekend (or longer) can we get an itinerary?

In September '05, I went to a veterans conference in Arlington, VA. I went a day early so that I could meet/treat some local Clarkies, such as Howard Park, Anisha Lal, Kevin Ceckowski, George Durazzo, and John Hlinko. A good time was had by all at a Legal Seafood, I think it was, in D.C. or Georgetown.

The next morning I showed up to register for the conference, and the registrar saw my Wes Clark dog tag and button. "Oh," she said. "General Clark stayed here last night. Several of us saw him in the lobby and talked to him."

Sheesh...Well, at least I had a great time with the local Clarkies.

I never thought I'd see Clark in NE OH again since his Dec 7th 2003 fly-in and then the Youngstown State thing 2004 and COL OH fly-in with Mayor Coleman just before the 2004 vote.

We coulda PACKED the place, what with our lists. Kinda reminds me of the brushoff Clark gave his delegates and supporters at the 2004 Boston DNC.

CRAP. No word yet of Clark's OH itinerary.
