PA Gov. Ed Rendell said Hillary got "a bum rap" compared to Obama from the media

Hello Everyone:

Here is the CNN Situation Room transcript from Wednesday, February 27 where Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell very bluntly told Wolf Blitzer that Hillary Clinton got "a bum rap, unfair treatment, compared to Barack Obama, over the past several months" from the media:

THE SITUATION ROOM

Leaving Clinton for Obama: Rep. John Lewis Defecting; Radio Host's War on McCain; Interview With Governor Ed Rendell

Aired February 27, 2008 - 16:00 ET

WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: BLITZER: "You were quoted in "The Washington Post" as saying this on Monday. You said, "The media does not like the Clintons for whatever reason. Maybe some of it's the Clintons' fault, but the media does not like the Clintons."

Has she gotten a bum rap, unfair treatment, compared to Barack Obama, over the past several months?

GOV. ED RENDELL (D), PENNSYLVANIA: Wolf, there's absolutely no question about that. I don't know if you saw "Saturday Night Live." It's become a national joke.

In fact, one of your -- I think -- no, it was MSNBC's reporter who was covering Obama. He said, in referring to one of the senator's speeches, he said, you know, hearing this speech, it's hard not to get involved and be partisan. And then I think Brian Williams congratulated him on having the guts to say that.

Well, I don't know what journalism class he went to, but I have always been told that it's important for journalists, for reporters, to give the news straight and not to be influenced and not to be partisan. I don't think the senator has had a fair shake from the get-go, and I think Senator Obama, who's a terrific guy, who if he's the nominee, I will support with every ounce of energy I have, but he's basically been given a free ride.

Do you remember The Times story about a month ago about Senator Obama being pro-nuclear energy, and not only that, but changing a position in response to a big power company who later went on to become among his biggest contributors? Well, how many of the young Obama supporters out there at these rallies do you believe, Wolf, know that he's pro-nuclear?

BLITZER: Probably not a whole lot.

RENDELL: I would say probably not one.

BLITZER: All right. Well...

RENDELL: And why didn't that story have legs? Why didn't CNN, why didn't MSNBC, why didn't other newspapers report it?

BLITZER: Well, we did report it. But you know, we can't report the same stories every single day.

RENDELL: Oh, a teensy...

BLITZER: But let me talk about Pennsylvania for a moment, because we don't have a lot of time..."

I was absolutely thrilled to see Ed Rendell come out and be this blunt and direct about this very important issue!

Here is the Washington Post article that Wolf Blitzer referred to with a short video where Gov. Rendell said "that the media's pro-Obama (or anti-Clinton) bias explains in part why Barack Obama is portrayed as running away with the Democratic presidential nomination:"

Rendell: 'The Media Does Not Like the Clintons'

"Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) said Monday that the media's pro-Obama (or anti-Clinton) bias explains in part why Barack Obama is portrayed as running away with the Democratic presidential nomination (instead of being locked in a close fight with Hillary Rodham Clinton)..."

Here is the documentation of where Gov. Rendell claimed "Obama being pro-nuclear energy" which he said got very little media coverage:

Even though Gov. Ed Rendell has endorsed Hillary, it is really good to see a credible person like him come out and be this blunt about how serious that the problem of anti-Hillary and pro-Obama media bias is and the toll that it is taking on the Democratic primary right now!

Please forward this information on so that many more Democratic primary voters (especially in Texas and Ohio) will be aware of this blatant anti-Hillary/pro-Obama media bias that is going on and will hopefully think twice before believing any of it when they see it. I will definitely continue to keep on exposing this unprofessional media bias nonsense as I continue to see it!

Does the Press Really Favor Obama?; Suspected Mexican Drug Cartel Violence Crosses over U.S. Border; Obama Under Fire for Positions on Iraq and Afghanistan

LOU DOBBS, HOST, LOU DOBBS TONIGHT: "Joining me now, three of the best political analysts in the country. Here in New York, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, "New York Daily News," Michael Goodwin. Syndicated columnist Miguel Perez and contributor to LOU DOBBS TONIGHT. Miguel, good to have you with us. And in our D.C. bureau, Roger Simon, chief political columnist, Politico.com. Roger, thank you.

Let's begin, Michael, with you. It looks like -- first of all, do you believe that Senator Obama got -- is getting a free pass from the press, basically?

MICHAEL GOODWIN, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: In general, I think the press does like him more, yes. But I think that also...

DOBBS: What about the...

GOODWIN: The next question, though, is why.

DOBBS: I haven't decided what the next question will be.

(LAUGHTER)

DOBBS: Let's try why.

GOODWIN: There you go.

DOBBS: Let's do a why.

GOODWIN: Good question, Lou. I think a lot of it has to do with the response on the stump that he gets. The huge crowds, the enthusiasm, the young people. I think it is infectious, and even the press has gotten caught up in it. Yes.

DOBBS: How about the debate? Brian Williams, Tim Russert, two guys I respect. I thought they pedalled it pretty softly over to Senator Obama and really, Miguel, went after Senator Clinton, particularly with that sort of gotcha thing. I know they said jump ball and all that nonsense, but what do you think?

MIGUEL PEREZ, SYNDICATED COLUMNIST: Absolutely. I think she has been getting the first question, it's true, and since yesterday a lot of people have been looking that up, and in fact it's true that she gets the first question, which is always tougher. But you know, as far as Obama, you know, Obama is getting a free ride so far. But I mean, we still have a long way until November.

DOBBS: Well, all we got is where we are.

PEREZ: The ride -- the point I am trying to make is that the ride is going to get a lot tougher for him from now on, especially when he's up against McCain..."

Gov. Rendell: Media Biased Toward Obama

Monday, April 14, 2008 12:38 PM

By: Newsmax Staff

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said that media in the U.S. have abandoned any pretense of neutrality in the Democratic presidential race and are heavily biased toward Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton.

In an interview with Britain’s Financial Times, Rendell — who has endorsed Clinton in the upcoming Pennsylvania primary — said the bias against the former first lady is the worst instance of favoritism “I have seen in my 31 years in politics.”

He added: “The media has drunk the Kool-Aid with Obama … They have fallen in love with the message and the messenger…

“They don’t even pretend to be objective. The media dislike the Clintons and harbor a lot of resentments against them.”

Rendell, a Democrat, cited an instance when an NBC reporter confessed he found it hard to remain objective given Obama’s “infectious” appeal.

He also joked that Keith Olbermann of MSNBC “has to be on the Obama payroll” and that MSNBC is the “Obama campaign’s official channel.”

The Obama camp disputes allegations of media bias and points to the press’ harsh scrutiny of his relationship with controversial Chicago pastor Jeremiah Wright, the Times reported.

But Rendell maintained that the media are far more forgiving of Obama’s mistakes than Hillary’s.
