TRANSCRIPT: Errol Louis explains how Iraq is linked to the economy as an issue!

Hello Everyone:

I completely agreed with Errol Louis of the New York Daily News when he claimed that the econpmy "is linked to Iraq" because "If this nation is spending $10 billion a month indefinitely, on this Iraq adventure. That's part of your answer as to why jobs are dipping, investment is not where it should be, the sub prime mortgage crisis has taken away a lot of the security that people could fall back on in the way of home equity. So, you know, you a full-scale disaster that's unraveling. Everyone including the Fed chief has acknowledged this:"

LOU DOBBS THIS WEEK

Outsourcing Defense; Border Security Lacking; Reviewing the Presidential Candidates; Examining the Trade Deficit

Aired March 9, 2008 - 19:00 ET

CHRISTINE ROMANS, HOST: "Welcome back. Joining me, Hank Sheinkopf, Errol Louis and Jesse Jackson. I want to start of course with the economy, gentlemen. Because we learned at the end of the week that the economy lost jobs in February after losing jobs in January after creating very few jobs in December. The president issued a brief statement saying that he recognizes that there is pain in the economy, but the good news is that they expected it and there's a stimulus package coming. How does the economy and what's happening complicate what's happening on the campaign trail and complicate it for the rest of this year for the president?

ERROL LOUIS, "NEW YORK DAILY NEWS": I don't know if it complicates things. I think it makes it simple. I mean, it makes very clear for everyone dealing with national politics whether as a candidate or an incumbent in the case of Bush.

ROMANS: But does this have the issue?

LOUIS: But this is the issue. This is the issue and it is linked to Iraq. A lot of times you get this kind of false duality. Well, are voters more concerned about foreign policy, national security or they're more concerned about the economy? If this nation is spending $10 billion a month indefinitely, on this Iraq adventure. That's part of your answer as to why jobs are dipping, investment is not where it should be, the sub prime mortgage crisis has taken away a lot of the security that people could fall back on in the way of home equity. So, you know, you a full-scale disaster that's unraveling. Everyone including the Fed chief has acknowledged this. And yet you get a White House that's curiously in denial and we've got six months until we get a new president..."

This is why I definitely think that we have to be out of Iraq in a responsible manner first BEFORE any real economic changes can actually happen!

The bottom line is that the next President will inherit and will have to be able to fix Iraq and every foreign policy problem that Bush and Cheney will leave behind on 1/20/09!

Hillary's views on Iraq are much closer to Gen. Clark's than Obama's are and Hillary has stated that Gen. Clark "will have a role in her administration:"

This is why on the issues of proven foreign policy experience and how we will get out of Iraq in the most responsible manner, Hillary Clinton to me is the candidate who best represents real "Hope" and "Change" in this election!

CNN LATE EDITION WITH WOLF BLITZER

Interviews With Senators Kyl, Casey, McCaskill, Menendez

Aired March 9, 2008 - 11:00 ET

BLITZER: "Having said that, Senator Kyl, how much longer can the U.S. economy, the U.S. taxpayers, afford $2 billion a week in Iraq, or $100 billion a year, given the enormous economic problems we have right here?

KYL: Well, it is expensive. And there has to be a greater contribution now that the oil situation in Iraq is beginning to really stabilize, and the revenues are coming in, that they're going to have to pick up more of that tab.

But one always has to look at the alternative. If we were to leave Iraq prematurely, the costs, not only in terms of losing all the gains that we've made, but the additional costs of what we would have to do to then fight Al Qaida would then be enormous.

So, usually, in these equations, it's not about a really good choice and a bad choice, but between varying degrees of not so great choices, when you're in a war..."
