VIDEOS: Obama's association with radical William Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright!

Hello Everyone:

It is truly a sad day in my opinion when because so many pundits in the mainstream media are not doing their jobs of scrutinizing Barack Obama's record and his past, I actually have to quote two credible video documentaries from Sean Hannity on his FOX News program "Hannity's America" to show Obama's previous association with a radical terrorist named William Ayers and with his highly controversial preacher Jeremiah Wright!

Here are the video links from Sean Hannity titled "Obama and the terrorist" dealing with William C. Ayers and "Obama and the preacher" dealing with Jeremiah Wright.  The YouTube videos are quicker and easier to use than the FOX News videos:

It was nice to see that ABC News and CNN dealt with Jeremiah Wright yesterday BUT this is happening way too late in the primary season.  This should have happened in the media a long time ago:

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright has made a number of controversial statements.

Right below is an article from Rush Limbaugh on Thursday, March 13 where he quotes Jeremiah Wright.

The mainstream media giving Barack Obama a near free pass on these kind of serious issues right now is not helping anyone because IF Obama is the nominee, then this will definitely come back to hurt him and it will raise his negative numbers in the general election!

That is definitely why these kind of tough and serious questions about Obama and his past need to be asked RIGHT NOW during the primary process!

Obama's Double Life Exposed: His Racist, Hatemonger Pastor

March 13, 2008

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Wait 'til you hear Obama's pastor.  Now, we've mentioned this guy off and on during the course of the campaign.  Of course as you know, ladies and gentlemen, this program likes to focus not on personalities, but rather issues and so forth. We like to cause a little mischief whenever we can, but it's gotten to the point now where we can sort of back off for... Well, not for long, but for a couple weeks maybe and be bystanders and watch this implosion.  Somebody put it up on YouTube, the Christmas 2007 sermon at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. The pastor: Jeremiah Wright.  Now, this is the guy that married Barack and Michelle "My Belle" Obama.  They've been going to this church for 20 years.  They have been taking their two little crumb crunchers to this church.  Now, that means this guy and this church and the kind of stuff that's said in this church, Barack Obama had been signing on to long before he came on the public scene -- long before he ran for local office in Chicago, state office in Illinois and then, of course, the United States Senate.

I mentioned a mere moment ago in a brilliant analysis: Obama is leading a double life.  This pastor -- this church, the stuff that you are going to hear in mere moments -- is representative of the life that Barack Obama used to live before he arrived in the United States Senate and started his presidential campaign.  He chose this pastor! This is not happenstance.  He's also associated, as you know, with Tony Rezko, and William Ayres, the domestic terrorist.  By the way, all this is the side of his life that he doesn't want discussed.  He wants to talk about "hope" and "change" and "the future."  And this is the life Obama lived, who he was before he became interested in the presidency, and this pastor didn't just start talking about this.  Let's go to the audio sound bites.  We'll start with number one, this is again the 2007 Christmas sermon, Obama pastor Jeremiah Wright.

WRIGHT:  Jesus was a poor black man who lived in a country and who lived in a culture, that was controlled by rich white people! The Romans were rich. The Romans were Italians, which means they were European, which means they were white -- and the Romans ran everything in Jesus' country.  It just came to me within the past few weeks, y'all, why so many folk are hatin' on Barack Obama.  He doesn't fit the model!

CONGREGATION: Right!

WRIGHT: He ain't white, he ain't rich, and he ain't privileged.

RUSH:  This is the kind of stuff Obama has been listening to from this guy for 20 years.  This guy didn't just start talking this way.  Here's the next bite.

WRIGHT:  Hillary never had to worry about being pulled over in her car as a black man driving in the wrong!  I am sick of Negroes who just do not get it!  Hillary was not a black boy raised in a single parent home! Barack was.  Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people!  Hillary can never know that!  Hillary ain't never been called a (bleep)! Hillary has never had her people defined as nonpersons!  Hillary ain't had to work twice as hard just to get accepted by the rich white folk who run everything, or to get a passing grade when you know you are smarter than their C-students sitting in the White House.  Hillary ain't never had her own people say she wasn't white enough!

RUSH:  Um... Is this what is meant by a "new future"?  Is this what is meant by "change"?  Barack Obama, community activist. His preacher is a hatemonger, a black segregationist.  He's got a friend from the Weather Underground who was on the run for terrorist acts. He befriended and benefited from the largesse of a Chicago thug.  Is this what is meant by "change"?  Is this where we are investing "hope" for the future?  Is this really moving forward, at all?  Or is this taking us backwards?  The past is the past, and it's the past because it's behind us -- and to get behind you, you gotta turn around and go the other way, and that's the opposite of going forward in the future.  Barack Obama tells us he wants to go forward, but we're turning around, and we're going backward. We're going back to the past.  We're going to go back to the past! We're going to relive the past, apparently.  This guy has been preaching to Barack Obama for 20 years, and his wife Michelle "My Belle" Obama and their children; and this guy certainly didn't just start talking like this.

Is this what is meant by "changing the system"?  Is this what is meant by "fresh ideas" and "new politics"?  The fact is these old liberal war horses who now sit as reporters and anchors, want us to believe that Obama is JFK and Lincoln -- and that doesn't make it so.  This is JFK?  Did JFK's priests talk like this?  This is Obama's pastor, folks!  You need to understand this.  People need to understand that he and his wife chose this church because of this pastor.  To say he has no responsibility for what the pastor says, yeah, that's true. But the pastor believes all this, obviously.  Obama chose it.  Let me put a fine point on this.  You know me. I don't like to skirt around the issues.  What we have heard -- and there's more. Let's see how many more we got.  We got three more.  It's your lucky day.  We have three more.  One of them is short.  This is lunatic racism.  This is pure lunatic racism, and Obama chose this.  He chose this pastor.  He chose this church.  He chose this hatemonger as a spiritual leader.  This guy doesn't represent any change.

This guy doesn't represent any hope to anybody.  This guy doesn't represent any future.  This guy is pure hate, ladies and gentlemen.  Obama knew all about him.  This is the guy who gave an award to Farrakhan.  This same preacher, Jeremiah Wright, went to visit Moammar Khadafy in the 1980s! He has given an award to Calypso Louie.  Now, Obama knows all this. He knew all about him.  Now he plays the role of offended, centrist Democrat? When Ferraro says what she says, he's out there acting offended?  By the way, they axed Ferraro.  She has been thrown under the bus. She is gone, and she is mad.  She is still livid that people think she's a racist.  You compare what she said. What she said was right, it was truthful. You compare that to what Obama has been listening to in church!  The point that she was ultimately making was -- and she said it about herself -- that somebody with two years experience, who was white, would not be this far advanced in the Democrat presidential sweepstakes.  Let's get these bites in.  This is Jeremiah Wright on the Clintons from the same sermon.

WRIGHT:  Hillary is married to Bill and Bill have been good to us?  No, he ain't!  Bill did us just like he did Monica Lewinsky!

CONGREGATION: (cheers)

WRIGHT: He was riding dirty!

RUSH:  "He was riding dirty" with "the big, fat nasty." Riding dirty with the big, fat nasty.  Here is more Jeremiah Wright, 2003 sermon in Chicago, Trinity United Church of Christ.

WRIGHT:  The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law, and then wants us to sing God bless America?  No, no, no! Not God bless America! God (bleep) America! (cheers) -- it's in the Bible -- for killing innocent people! (cheers) God (bleep) America for treating her citizens as less than human!

RUSH: That's a 2003 sermon. Obama may have been in the congregation that day.  You heard it. That was 2003.  This is five years ago.  This is not in the Christmas sermon.  But he's out there, you know, "God bleep America," not God bless. God bleep.  So the Romans were Europeans which means they were white, and they killed Jesus.  So are we to believe here Rudolph Giuliani is going to go out and take out Obama?  This is the way this guy thinks, and Obama sits there and listens to it, folks, as often as he goes to church -- and he chose it, and he's been going there for 20 years.  We have one more Jeremiah Wright sound bite. We'll get to it after the break, and Obama talking about race on his campaign plane today, not specifically Jeremiah Wright.  Folks, we just turned the teakettle on. It hasn't even heated up yet.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Geraldine Ferraro's point is essentially this, and it's something... You know, Obama shouldn't even really be mad about it, especially given what he listens to in his own church.  His kids were baptized in this church! They're like six and ten years old. Baptized in this church! They chose it. They support it.  Now, what Geraldine... Mr. Snerdley, I want you to hear this, because you're screening calls. You may get calls about this.  Mr. Snerdley and everybody else, Geraldine Ferraro, I'm sure what she meant was, "Okay, we've got a guy whose candidacy was said to be historic?  Why?  Is it what he believes?  Is it what he says?  Is it how he says it?  Is it the color of his skin?" Damn right.  You can't factor that out.  It's just like Hillary's candidacy is said to be historic.  Why?  Because this would be the first Vagina Monologues woman ever elected president, or woman period.  So you can't take those two things separately. That's all she was saying, and she happened to use the word... She clarified, "I wasn't talking about his qualifications," and then she followed up with a Bush insult. She's saying, "Look, if Bush can learn to run the country, I'm sure Obama can.  I was talking about experience, lack of it, not qualifications," and then she's still peeved that people think that she's racist.  Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor, a 2001 sermon.  Now, we've gone back some years here to show you this is not just one sermon last December.  This stuff is consistent. 2001 is seven years ago.  Listen to this one.

WRIGHT:  We bombed Hiroshima! We bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.  We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians, and black South Africans, and now we are indignant (cheers) because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yards! (cheers and applause) America's chickens are coming home...to roost.

RUSH:  This is Barack Obama's pastor saying we deserved it on 9/11. We deserved what we got for all eeeevil that we have done around the world.  People said, "Rush, you bleeped out what Obama's pastor said. 'God (bleep).'" Yeah, it's what you think it was.  Damn it, it was. I don't know how... I just told you what the other word was, but I'm not going to put the words together. I bleeped it out. I'm not going to do it, and not going to go there.  Now, this pastor, Jeremiah... By the way, I'm still waiting for Obama to apologize to me.  Obama is running around out there lying about me, saying that I wanted to round up all the illegals and deport 'em.  I never said it. I don't. I never have thought it would be possible.  It's not the point of my take on illegal immigration. He's out there saying it.  I have demanded an apology.  I mean, if he's going to run around and get all offended and all upset and all sensitive about these criticisms he's getting; well, then he's gotta apologize when he engages in those kinds of things, if he says things about people aren't true.

I am offended!  I have been lied about by the leading Democrat presidential candidate.  Now, this pastor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, he is a racist. He is a hater.  Here is the question for you, Obama.  Why did you join this church?  Why did you stay with this church for 20 years?  Why do you subject you, your wife, and your kids to this hatemonger in church as often as you go?  Why you donate large sums of money to this church and this pastor, Obama?  Who in the world joins a church to listen to a pastor who is a racist hatemonger?  Who contributes money to a church where the pastor is a racist?  How can it be said with a straight face -- and believe me, mine's not -- that Obama didn't know what this pastor was preaching?  Obama has said that he searched for a church that was appropriate for his beliefs.  This is the church that he settled on, the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago?  So why did you join this church, Obama?  Why did you stay with this church for 20 years?  Why do you give large sums of money to this church?  Here's Obama, sound bite six.  I'm changing the order.  Here's Obama.  This is March 3rd in Nelson, Ohio, at a campaign event.  Obama said this about Jeremiah Wright, who you just heard.

OBAMA:  Jeremiah Wright, who was my pastor in the past, has said some things that are considered controversial because he's considered that part of his social gospel.

RUSH:  Well, that's helpful.  Was his "pastor in the past"?  He's quit?  Oh, he resigned, the pastor? So the Christmas sermon was the last sermon?  Well, Jeremiah Wright's gone, huh?  We gotta find this out.  This is news to me. I know almost everything, and I didn't know that Jeremiah Wright was gone.  Where did they put him?  Where did they put him, if he's gone?  Okay.  Jeremiah Wright gone.  Here's this morning, Good Morning America, Chris Cooomo interviewing an advisor to the Obama campaign and a professor of Christian ethics at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington.  Chris Cooomo said -- yes, I know, it's "Cuomo," but the Reverend Jackson pronounces it Cooomo, and in this highly charged racial atmosphere, I don't want to be accused of racism.  So if they say Cooomo, it's Cooomo.  Anyway, Chris Cooomo says, "You believe that what the reverend has said doesn't go beyond the pale of what he preaches in terms of religion. It doesn't deserve any more scrutiny than that. It doesn't have anything to do with politics, this is just the media picking on Senator Obama?"

CASEY:  It seemed to me what you're trying to do is what some of the media tried to do to John Kennedy in 1960, that because he was a Catholic, he must embrace certain political views the Catholic church held.  And he denied those, and he denied those for about a four-year period.  And it really wasn't until the actual election itself that the American public understood that he was able to separate himself from some of the political views of his church.  I think it's the same dynamic that's going on here.

RUSH:  All right. That's just unbelievable.  That is just... To compare Jeremiah Wright and what you just heard to the same thing John Kennedy was doing? They can't face up to this.  Is he really gone? Did you do some research? Is Jeremiah Wright gone?  Well, find it.  Don't just sit there and look.  Find it.  The show is moving along pretty quick.  I want you to keep up.  Here's Obama this morning on the campaign plane. We're back to sound bite 21.  Listen to this.

OBAMA:  As I said yesterday, I -- uh, I do think it's unfortunate. It's not entirely unexpected.  Uh, you know, as I said before, race and gender issues are very powerful in our society.  They've been an organizing principle for our politics since (pause) the earliest days (pause) of this country, and so, you know, it would be naïve for me to think that we could just brush them aside, and I know that sometimes (pause) Senator Clinton and others accuse me of being naïve, but I'm not naïve enough to think that we're going to solve the country's racial problems or some of these other divisions in the span of six months or a year.

RUSH:  He's gone. Okay, Jeremiah Wright's gone. January 13th, after the Christmas sermon, Jeremiah Wright, histoire.  At any rate... Past pastor.  Now, ladies and gentlemen, this guy, Obama, he was asked a question about race in politics.  Did you hear this? This guy is leading two lives and he's getting away with it.  He is! There's the public Obama that is this new revolutionary "agent of change and hope in the future," and the other Obama -- which has been alive much longer than this new Obama -- that has been sitting himself down in this racist church and soaking up all of this hatemongering racism from this pastor for over 20 years, and to act like...and to get away with this? The last thing this is, is "change."  The last thing this is is "hope."  The last thing this represents is "a new future."  This is worse than the same old same old.  Well, I don't know how the same old same old can be worse, but it's the same old same old.  And he's getting away with leading this double life here, and when this is brought up. (paraphrased) "Well, I -- I -- crazy uncle. We put him down in the basement of the church. He said some things, you know, social gospel," blah, blah.  Oh!  Fine, that explains it.  That explains why your pastor thinks we deserve what we got.  That explains why the al-Aqsa Brigades over in the Middle East can't wait 'til you're elected.  That's why Hugo Chavez can't wait 'til you're elected.  Those guys say we deserved 9/11, too.  Your preacher said, Obama, that we deserved 9/11.  You've got all these guys that can't wait for you to get elected, and it ain't just because you promised to talk to 'em.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  Well-l-l-l-l-l-l. Well-l-l-l-l-l.  It may well be that Obama's pastor has left the pulpit of the Trinity United Church of Christ.  However, according to The Politico.com, Ben Smith, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright is a member of Obama's African-American religious leadership committee.  Now, it is largely honorary, it is an advisory body that in recent days has been used mostly to throw people off who say controversial things.  The Obama campaign couldn't immediately say whether Reverend Jeremiah Wright would remain on the committee.  But that's where he went.  He left the church and he went to the Obama campaign.  So Obama says, "I lament all this, race has come up, I know we're not going to fix this in six months or even a year."  Well, Senator Obama, you would know that race is an organizing principle in our country, since your pastor promoted it!  And you joined the church because of the brilliant things your pastor was saying.  Then the pastor leaves the church and joins your campaign in an advisory role!

Meanwhile, representative Steve King of Iowa, we've talked about him yesterday, says that Al-Qaeda will be celebrating an Obama election victory, and McCain says, (doing McCain impression) "Stop it!  I will not have those kinds of things said. You're off point," and throws him down the stairs.  This pastor hates Israel.  This pastor embraces the Palestinian cause, such as it is.  He's Obama's pastor.  Steve King says, "Al-Qaeda would like to see Obama win, and that's considered over the top and a personal attack."  I'll tell you what, folks, this political correctness -- I'm about ready to just throw it overboard and whatever consequences I suffer, I'm going to suffer 'em.  It's paralyzing us.  It is making us ignore and look the other way at things which are really crucially important, such as this.  Barack Obama living two lives.  He didn't just check his own life at the door.  He still goes to this church up until last December, and this pastor is still around as an advisor.  We don't know who Obama is.  All we can do is surmise.  But since he doesn't say anything on the stump, since he says nothing better than anybody else has ever said nothing, we can go to where he parks himself every Sunday and listen to what his preacher says.  We can see, does he walk out in disgust or protest?  No, he keeps going, has his kids baptized there.  It's time we found out who this guy really is.  I'm serious.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: An update on the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Trinity United Church of Christ.  By the way, the Trinity United Church of Christ has nothing to do with the Churches of Christ all over the country.  It stands alone.  The Reverend Wright announced his retirement from the church, and it will not become effective until May of 2008.  He's not gone yet.  He's still there at the church, and he's still on the Obama campaign.  He held his last sermon Sunday, February 10th.  He will be on sabbatical leave from the church from March until May 'cause that's when he's on the Obama campaign.  Of course the press loves to report that Obama is a practicing Christian, not a Muslim.  Well, don't you think it's kind of relevant what kind of Christianity he chooses to practice, and nobody reports on it?

Abramoff GOP Lobbying Firm Indicted, Major HRC Donor by leveymg Fri Mar 14, 2008

Greenberg Traurig (GT), a major GOP partisan law and lobbying shop, has been indicted on federal charges in the Marianas Islands sweatshop case.  The firm employed notorious political fixer Jack Abramoff.

Abramoff’s firm has a long history as a conduit for illegal foreign campaign contributions.  GT were Bush's Campaign Lawyers during the 2000 Florida Recount, and is now a major donor to HRC's presidential campaign, according to the lastest FEC data.

Greenberg Traurig and the Tan Family, who are the center of the Saipan sweatshop and prostitution scandal, have both made large HRC campaign contributions.

In a odd coincidence, GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain chaired the Senate Committee which investigated Abramoff.  As dengre has informed us, McCain's committee continues to withhold all but 8000 pages of the three-quarter of a million documents turned over to it.

This has the makings of a major presidential campaign blowup, if HRC gets the nomination.

MORE below . . .

<!-- polls come after this -->

Records show that beginning in the mid-1990s, Hillary Clinton developed a donor relationship with the Tan Family, a wealthy Chinese ethnic clan that owns many of the businesses implicated in the Marianas bribery, prostitution, and human trafficking scandal.

Tan money flowed into the HRC campaign coffers as recently as 2005.  This raises two questions, what does John McCain and his staff know about Clinton’s ties to the Tan that the public doesn't?  Why is the US Attorney recommencing the Fraud and Conspiracy trial now after it was shut down in 2002 in the first of the now notorious US Attorney firings?

Source: ABC News

Jack Abramoff's old lobby firm has been slapped with its first indictment stemming from his misdeeds.

The attorney general for Guam issued an indictment Monday against the Greenberg Traurig firm, Abramoff and a former Guam government official on nine felony counts of theft, conspiracy and misconduct.

From 2001 to 2003, the indictment alleges, Guam Superior Court official Anthony P. Sanchez funneled $324,000 in public funds to Abramoff and Greenberg Traurig in a series of $9,000 checks, disguised as payments to a third party. The court reportedly wanted Abramoff to keep it from becoming subject to rulings by the Guam Supreme Court. Abramoff agreed to represent the court at a meeting at his Washington, D.C. restaurant, Signatures, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The payments, which were publicly reported in U.S. papers in 2005, had formed the basis of a 2002 investigation by the U.S. attorney for the region at the time, Frederick Black.

Abramoff's Firm Fined for Illegal Foreign Campaign Donations

Greenberg Traurig (GT) has a long history as both a major GOP partisan law firm and as a conduit for illegal foreign campaign contributions.  GT were Bush's campaign lawyers during the 2000 Florida Recount.

That law firm, which hosted Abramoff's lobbying shop, was previously convicted of knowingly accepting illegal foreign campaign contributions. A German paid the largest fine to date for that offense after a foreign contribution went through a GT lobbyist in 1998. Under Federal Election Commission laws, foreign individuals and companies are barred from contributing to American political campaigns and parties.

Under Abramoff’s lead, lobbying pumped more than $26 million into GT’s coffers in 2003, alone, a seven-fold increase over what it had been before Bush-Cheney took the White House.

This raises an obvious question: when are we ever going to hear more about how Jack Abramoff funneled money to the GOP from Islamic banks and fees from groups tied to terrorist finance? According to reports published in The Hill, a respected Washington political newsletter, after 9/11, Abramoff continued to do business at GT on behalf of Islamic banks that had been accused of financing terrorist groups. We must now ask, is this part of the Republican influence-peddling scheme ever going to be revealed in court documents, or is it forever going to be buried as part of Jack's plea agreement with the Bush Justice Department? See, http://www.dailykos.com/... ; http://www.dailykos.com/...

Abramoff’s law firm was aware of his unlawful practices months before The Washington Post first reported on them in 2004. Greenberg Traurig claims it had no knowledge of Abramoff's wrongdoing until it was revealed in The Post.

Reporting in national media, including The Washington Post which has been covering the Abramoff story closely, have virtually ignored foreign sources of fees and funding collected by Abramoff and his various shell companies, money which if it were commingled with Jack's political contributions to the Republican Party would be a violation of federal law.

Greenberg Traurig and the Tan Family are also major HRC campaign contributors

You have to wonder why a big GOP law firm and lobbying shop is giving so much money to Hillary.

What Does John McCain Have Up His Sleave About Hillary & the Tan Family?

And, then, there's this item that shows that Hillary Clinton has long been getting big money from the corrupt Chinese-based Tan family, who are at the center of the Abramoff Marianas sweatshop scandal: http://thehill.com/...

Hillary Clinton and the sweatshop tycoon of Saipan
By Byron York

You may remember news reports a few weeks ago about the nationwide reach of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s fundraising network.

The nonpartisan website PoliticalMoneyLine reported that her biggest political action committee, Friends of Hillary, has raised more than $20 million since the beginning of 2005.

Some of that money came, as it does in any campaign, from donors who gave less than $200. Such contributions do not have to be reported to the Federal Election Commission, and thus we have no information about them.

But of the more than $13 million that came from individuals whose contributions were reported, $5.63 million came from Mrs. Clinton’s "home" state, New York.

Donors in California gave $1.54 million. Washington, D.C., accounted for $603,360. And donors in Sen. Clinton’s actual "home" state, Illinois, gave $554,088.

The list goes on and on. Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan — until it gets to something called "MP."

Do you know what "MP" is? Neither did I.

It stands for Marianas Protectorate, and it refers to the Northern Mariana Islands.

It turns out that Sen. Clinton has some big fans in Saipan. And most of them are in the family of one Willie Tan.

Last year, Tan gave $2,000 to Friends of Hillary. So did Raymond Tan, Siu Lin Tan and Josie Tan, all members of Willie Tan’s family.

FEC records indicate that the $2,000 checks from Willie, Raymond and Siu Lin were all received on Sept. 30, 2005, indicating they were sent together. The check from Josie was received Oct. 2.

Together, the Tan family’s $8,000 contribution to Friends of Hillary was more than the senator’s PAC received, separately, from residents of the entire states of Hawaii, Mississippi, Nebraska, Vermont, Utah, Kansas, Wyoming, Alaska, Idaho, South Dakota, Montana or North Dakota.

You might not have heard of Willie Tan, but he is quite well-known in the Northern Marianas as a garment-industry tycoon. Sometimes he’s also described as a sweatshop operator.

He is also well-known in the U.S. Congress, where some of Sen. Clinton’s fellow Democrats have denounced him and his factories, which pay subminimum wages, for years, mostly because of his tireless efforts to make sure those factories are never subjected to U.S. labor laws.

SNIP

Why was Willie Tan paying Abramoff? Because Abramoff could provide access to U.S. lawmakers. Last year, ABC News reported that Abramoff "arranged a lavish overseas trip to the island of Saipan for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay [R-Texas] over the New Year’s holiday in 1997."

Correspondent Brian Ross reported that DeLay met with Willie Tan during the trip, and ABC played a surreptitiously recorded tape in which Tan claimed that DeLay had promised to stop moves in Congress to reform the island’s garment factories.

Last year, National Journal reported that Tan also met with DeLay and Abramoff during DeLay’s 2000 trip to England and Scotland.

And a few months ago The Washington Post reported that "the owners of textile companies in the Mariana Islands" — that would include Willie Tan — contributed $500,000 to the U.S. Family Network, the big-money, secret-donor group linked to DeLay.

Now, normally one might expect Sen. Clinton to denounce someone like that — if only for his ties to all those terrible Republicans. (In 2000 and 2004, Willie Tan contributed to the Bush-Cheney campaigns.)

SNIP

Of course, he’s an old friend. Several years ago, the Post reported that Mrs. Clinton met with Tan and other like-minded supporters during a quick fundraising visit to Guam in 1995.

But these days Sen. Clinton is being quiet about all that. A spokesman for Friends of Hillary did not respond to repeated requests for comment on the Willie Tan contributions.

But at some point in the coming campaign(s), perhaps she’ll be asked about her friend in Saipan.

In early 2006, Hillary's campaign transferred $2000 of these Tan donations to a NY State charity.  But, she kept the rest.

I think that time to start asking questions about Hillary's more-than-decade-long money ties to the Tan has finally arrived.  Surely, if we don't, McCain will.  He had three-quarters of a million pages of unreleased Abramoff-related documents still under wraps in his committee files.  As Chairman of the Senate commitee that investigated Abramoff, McCain managed to keep all but 8000 pages of documents under seal.

One may safely wager that the subject of Mrs. Clinton and the Tans will be raised if she becomes the Democratic presidential candidate.

OPINION

Obama and the Minister

By RONALD KESSLER
March 14, 2008; Page A19

In a sermon delivered at Howard University, Barack Obama's longtime minister, friend and adviser blamed America for starting the AIDS virus, training professional killers, importing drugs and creating a racist society that would never elect a black candidate president.

The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., pastor of Mr. Obama's Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, gave the sermon at the school's Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel in Washington on Jan. 15, 2006.

Trinity United Church of Christ/Religion News Service
Sen. Barack Obama and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright

"We've got more black men in prison than there are in college," he began. "Racism is alive and well. Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run. No black man will ever be considered for president, no matter how hard you run Jesse [Jackson] and no black woman can ever be considered for anything outside what she can give with her body."

Mr. Wright thundered on: "America is still the No. 1 killer in the world. . . . We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns, and the training of professional killers . . . We bombed Cambodia, Iraq and Nicaragua, killing women and children while trying to get public opinion turned against Castro and Ghadhafi . . . We put [Nelson] Mandela in prison and supported apartheid the whole 27 years he was there. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God."

His voice rising, Mr. Wright said, "We supported Zionism shamelessly while ignoring the Palestinians and branding anybody who spoke out against it as being anti-Semitic. . . . We care nothing about human life if the end justifies the means. . . ."

Concluding, Mr. Wright said: "We started the AIDS virus . . . We are only able to maintain our level of living by making sure that Third World people live in grinding poverty. . . ."

Considering this view of America, it's not surprising that in December Mr. Wright's church gave an award to Louis Farrakhan for lifetime achievement. In the church magazine, Trumpet, Mr. Wright spoke glowingly of the Nation of Islam leader. "His depth on analysis [sic] when it comes to the racial ills of this nation is astounding and eye-opening," Mr. Wright said of Mr. Farrakhan. "He brings a perspective that is helpful and honest."

After Newsmax broke the story of the award to Farrakhan on Jan. 14, Mr. Obama issued a statement. However, Mr. Obama ignored the main point: that his minister and friend had spoken adoringly of Mr. Farrakhan, and that Mr. Wright's church was behind the award to the Nation of Islam leader.

Instead, Mr. Obama said, "I decry racism and anti-Semitism in every form and strongly condemn the anti-Semitic statements made by Minister Farrakhan. I assume that Trumpet magazine made its own decision to honor Farrakhan based on his efforts to rehabilitate ex-offenders, but it is not a decision with which I agree." Trumpet is owned and produced by Mr. Wright's church out of the church's offices, and Mr. Wright's daughters serve as publisher and executive editor.

Meeting with Jewish leaders in Cleveland on Feb. 24, Mr. Obama described Mr. Wright as being like "an old uncle who sometimes will say things that I don't agree with." He rarely mentions the points of disagreement.

Mr. Obama went on to explain Mr. Wright's anti-Zionist statements as being rooted in his anger over the Jewish state's support for South Africa under its previous policy of apartheid. As with his previous claim that his church gave the award to Mr. Farrakhan because of his work with ex-offenders, Mr. Obama appears to have made that up.

Neither the presentation of the award nor the Trumpet article about the award mentions ex-offenders, and Mr. Wright's statements denouncing Israel have not been qualified in any way. Mr. Obama nonetheless told the Jewish leaders that the award to Mr. Farrakhan "showed a lack of sensitivity to the Jewish community." That is an understatement.

As for Mr. Wright's repeated comments blaming America for the 9/11 attacks because of what Mr. Wright calls its racist and violent policies, Mr. Obama has said it sounds as if the minister was trying to be "provocative."

Hearing Mr. Wright's venomous and paranoid denunciations of this country, the vast majority of Americans would walk out. Instead, Mr. Obama and his wife Michelle have presumably sat through numerous similar sermons by Mr. Wright.

Indeed, Mr. Obama has described Mr. Wright as his "sounding board" during the two decades he has known him. Mr. Obama has said he found religion through the minister in the 1980s. He joined the church in 1991 and walked down the aisle in a formal commitment of faith.

The title of Mr. Obama's bestseller "The Audacity of Hope" comes from one of Wright's sermons. Mr. Wright is one of the first people Mr. Obama thanked after his election to the Senate in 2004. Mr. Obama consulted Mr. Wright before deciding to run for president. He prayed privately with Mr. Wright before announcing his candidacy last year.

Mr. Obama obviously would not choose to belong to Mr. Wright's church and seek his advice unless he agreed with at least some of his views. In light of Mr. Wright's perspective, Michelle Obama's comment that she feels proud of America for the first time in her adult life makes perfect sense.

Much as most of us would appreciate the symbolism of a black man ascending to the presidency, what we have in Barack Obama is a politician whose closeness to Mr. Wright underscores his radical record.

The media have largely ignored Mr. Obama's close association with Mr. Wright. This raises legitimate questions about Mr. Obama's fundamental beliefs about his country. Those questions deserve a clearer answer than Mr. Obama has provided so far.

it is plastered over every cable news network, you can't get away from it... so it's out there, we'll see how he handles it, obviously it has to be dealt with.

The media wants to turn Obama into some kind of a monster over this... so he's going to be vetted on this and it remains to be seen how he will deal with it. If how he dealt with Farrakhan is any indication this will be all but forgotten in a week.

I'm just interested to know why this came up now, the press has known about Rev. Wright for a long time, yet they choose now to bring it up when Barack has all but secured the nomination, he is the clear front runner.

I sense a plot to destroy Obama and the democratic party...

This really is a sad day for America...

Fox News bought the video tapes from the church's website (ABC News followed suit) and Sean Hannity began playing them Sunday night.

There are certainly questions about why the press has heretofore ignored these 'sermons'. But then, they should have been vetting all of the candidates all along. That they ignored this damns the media a thousandfold.

I thought I saw Murdoch's finger prints all over this, it is just his style. I guess ABC felt it needed to jump on the bandwagon as soon as Faux News opened fire, there's always good ratings in scandal after all. They have known about this for some time, if Clark bloggers have known about this I think the media has been aware of it at least as long if not longer. I'm sure this was somewhere in Karl Rove's play book, damage the goods early so the attack doesn't appear partisan.

Obviously this has the potential to seriously damage Obama, Obama will be on Countdown tonight so I'm waiting to see what he says about this to Keith. Obviously a simple rejection will not do, there are many questions to be answered, and I think that they will be answered before Countdown is over.

On a side note way I'm tying up a few loose ends around here since I think I made a mistake coming back before Denver. But before I got out of here for the next couple months I wanted to ask you if you knew if Hillary has some mechanism for submitting policy proposals to her campaign as Barack does with his "my policy" page. I was interested in submitting some ideas to the Hillary campaign if she had such a mechanism, and I have been told that you are the person to ask.

Submitted by Kat on March 14, 2008 - 5:51pm.

I don't think that many (if any) Clarkies knew about these sermons, I most certainly did not. Saw the first one yesterday following a link to Politico.com. Although his church had been described as "Afrocentric" to me (as to most, I suspect) it was an unfamiliar term.

Karl Rove doesn't care whether he 'seems partisan' or not. Those sensibilities are reserved for Democrats. Republicans of the Karl Rove variety go for the jugular and as long as it can't be tied definitively to them, they could care less if they look "mean" or "partisan". It's one reason those of us who have had to deal with Karl Rove and his ilk (in Texas) know that Obama's belief that we can all just get along is so naive.

Olberman can't clean up this mess for him. Neither can Chris Matthews or MSNBC. It's everywhere and people's opinions are already formed/forming. It's not just a serious blow, I expect it will be a crippling one.

I'm afraid I can't help you with an avenue to submit policy ideas directly to the Clinton campaign. Though it's not specfically geared toward policy, there is a submission form on her site that you could try:

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/help/contact/

I'm curious, has Obama ever adopted a policy position based on a Internet submission? I really AM curious.

Submitted by James Mitchem on March 14, 2008 - 7:00pm.

none of the current policy proposals are "people powered" but I'm not high enough up to know that.

But I think the idea is to roll it all out after Denver, a kind of anti McCain trump card, "policy of the people" as it were. It is a very powerful idea.

Not good for the candidate, not good for democrats. I do not see a way out of this. And in the interview with Keith Olberman Mr. Obama was not forceful, very lukewarm towards a strong repudiation. Not good, I think.

for damage control! I flipped through all 3 news channels during prime time tonight, even pausing wincingly on KO's show, which blared the BREAKING NEWS headline that BO had dismissed Wright from his advisory committee! Gee...imagine that. Anderson Cooper proclaimed that the previous night he couldn't decided whether the scandal was worth mentioning. Chris Matthews wondered if black candidates could possibly be expected to divorce themselves from the black church, as though they're all like Wright's! I watched most of Hannity, which I haven't done in years. Bob Beckel, looking like someone had a gun on him, spouted that he supposed that no black child could enter Wright's church and then run for Prez and demanded to know if Hannity has any tapes of BO's daughters' baptisms! It was more of the same old treat-black-people-like-helpless-children routine, the most racist behavior imaginable!
And Obama, acting as though he hasn't had months to think up an answer, insisted he never heard Wright say such things and would leave the church if he had ever repeated them! It's astounding that he put him on a campaign advisory committee, compounding his links to the man! I guess he thought he'd get a free ride from the press--and almost did, of course! Apologists gave the same tired "out of context" arguments and tried to distract by talking about McCain's endorsements by Pastors Hagee and Parsley--which the media have blabbered about over and over!
Well, we'll see how the folks in PA and IN like all this!

Even if he denies that Obama was present, or says that he can't recall his presence, i think his response would be very telling.

Obamba in attendance as Wright refers to "white arrogance" and the "U.S. of White America"

http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2007/8/8/1...

Obama does a "Gary Hart" and tells the media to prove he ever heard anything objectionable while attending his church. Well, Jim Davis went to this church on July 22, 2007 and reported back. I feel sorry for the white Secret Service men who have to listen to this hate mongering.

Excerpt from Obama's Church: Cauldron of Division
Jim Davis
Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007

Presidential candidate Barack Obama preaches on the campaign trail that America needs a new consensus based on faith and bipartisanship, yet he continues to attend a controversial Chicago church whose pastor routinely refers to "white arrogance" and "the United States of White America."

In fact, Obama was in attendance at the church when these statements were made on July 22.

On one video, on Christmas Day, Wright tells that congregation that there is one man in the audience who will change things (or something like that). It's obviously Obama.

Barack is taking this head on, Obama is going to be condemned by some black ministers for condemning Wright, so he's doing the right thing here even though he is paying a price.

He went on Hannity last night and defended himself from interrogation by the fauxies... hardly dem friendly territory. The regressives hate Obama most of all because of what he represents. Here's Barack on Hannity addressing "pastor gate".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVltAjZyl10

We'll see if Obama's negatives move because of this... If his speech in Indiana was any indication I don't think he'll be as damaged as some in the lower echelons of the clinton camp are fervently hoping and praying, it's pretty obvious that you want this to take Barack out. Just as Rezko was pushed so hard here, even though Patrick Fitzgerald didn't find anything illegal, if there was anything to find, fitz would have found it...

I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it’s on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue….- Barack Obama
