Tribute to Past Bloggers on the CCN

These are rough times in politics. As a way of changing the rhythm, it may be timely and appropriate to recognize individuals who spent a lot of time and energy at the Clark Community Network in the past. Some have left with no trace, others return periodically, all are missed, and we hope all will eventually return. We should recognize their contributions to the depth of discussion, their sharing of knowledge, and yes, some appropriate humor. Please list ones you miss with any comment you may think is appropriate.

This dude/dudette had the ability to distill the essence of any issue with his/her famous one-liners. Unfortunately the gender and place of origin of this blogger is about as unknown as the current haven of Osama bin Laden. Extreme notoriety was achieved by this blogger with projections of his statements during the reception at the Clark Community Meeting in Little Rock. Current location or mental state are unknown.

Yeah where is Obama and how come we are not worried about him as we did right after 9-11?  Political state: unknown.monkey

Otherwise known as Uncle Noel. No words can describe his contributions in knowledge and perspective in the early days of the Clark website. He worked teaching in Taiwan and spent countless hours gathering information and sharing it with the community. He posted recently referring to a possible return to the U.S.

This site drives both newcomers & Clark loyalists away. It's toxic. Think about it.
An end to the overt, gutter racism would be a start.

A transsexual Seventh Day Adventist.

Having suffered great spiritual upheaval as a child at the hands of the Seventh Day Adventists, I gotta say that I'm pretty sure you're never going to find a transsexual in the lot of 'em.

Undocumented Klingon? Maybe.

Do you have any idea how hard you and those like you make it for people me to address facts, I get troll rated for no good reason because of people like you saying things like this.

I've told you this once before and I will say it again, there is no racism here at CCN, go to the Fox News Blog if you want to see what real racism looks like. There is no racism here.

Opposing Barack Obama for President, even in a vehment fashion as many here do, does NOT equate to racism, period. What you are doing does not help Sen. Obama, it hurts him, and it makes my job all the harder.

...I miss Chuck Tingstad, one of whose monikers was Spokane4Clark. He was the one who called me "the moderately moderate moderator."

There are so many from the original WesleyClark2004 group, now the Clark08 group, from whom we've heard little or nothing in a while. We did hear from RobbedVoter recently, but Alix seems to have disappeared, as have Lowell Feld (but he's been active by creating RaisingKaine and co-authoring a book on the netroots in politics), Anisha Lal, Jim Robbins, my fellow co-moderators Eric Richardson and Jay (Jane) Bowen/fauxterp, Susan Putney/Sportybabe, the inimitable John Hlinko, Dakotah Burns/MisterIgnatiusReilly, Amanda Propes, Dick Burton, Carrie/SugarPeas, Jill Squire, S. M. (Steve) Summerlight/RedHouse51, Eric Woodiwiss, Gene Downs, Dorothy/SadBlueEyes, Donovan Arnold/NWClark4Pres/ClarkFourPres, AlaskaGirl4Clark, and a host of others whose IDs escape me for the moment.

I stayed with good old Chuck for a few daYS years ago in the Spokasne area, he insisted on showing me every site that Clark had campaigned in in the Spokane area.

The reality is that 95% of Clark Supportersa freom back then feel no connection to this site because it's not a Clark side anymore. Its all about Hillary and racial attacks on Barack Obama.

Anyway, if y'all want to be apart of the converesation agan, stop the racism. It this a Wes Clack site ior a George Wallacew site?? Somewtimes I can't tell.

Submitted by CentralMass on March 19, 2008 - 11:43pm.

Racism? Can you elaborate? Is not supporting Obama an act of racism?

Submitted by Defoliate Bush on March 20, 2008 - 12:17am.

Apparently, those who seem to have racist shadows in the closet will not accept any criticism of Obama - it helps them absolve their guilt by trying to transfer it to others.

And isn't trying to protect the chosen one from criticism in itself a subtle form of racism?

shown on this website (discussed, perhaps, but not tolerated). I can't agree with you, though, that supporting Obama is an act of racism anymore than supporting Clinton is an act of sexism.

There are qualities of both that I happen to admire and it has nothing to do with their race or sex. The MSM has pushed this "identity politics" idea so far that we will never know the real reasons people are supporting either candidate. They have simplified it to "women voting for Hillary, blacks voting for Obama" and it is much more complicated than that.

And as for people who have left us - Justcallmeohio is on my mind.

CentralMass' post wrong....The question is, I believe, "If you don't support Obama, does that mean you are a racist?" not "If you do support Obama, doesn't that mean you are a racist?" See what I mean?

I think my answer still is the same - the race and gender questions are irrelevant (in my mind, at least). Thanks for pointing it out, I did read the post backwards for sure.

are promoted by republicans and the republican msm. By bringing such allegations here, you are promoting their agenda of keeping Democrats divided.

If just ANY 'attack' on Obama is considered to be 'racial,' the accuser should go back to school and learn something about semantics, and about politics.

If that's what's happening here, well, I hope not; this has been a fine group. I hope the group knows the difference between 'attacks' and complaints and disagreements.

Submitted by CentralMass on March 20, 2008 - 11:55am.

There was no shortage of negative posts on this blog about Kerry, Edwards and other candidates that were running against Wes Clark. There wasn't much concern about those posts.

To advocate that Obama should be treated differently then any other candidate because of his skin color is racist in itself. The fact that he is black makes no dfference to me. I'm not going to over compensate to prove I'm not a racists.

His association with Chicago power brokers like Rezko and controversial religious figures like Wright are part of who he is.

We have people here who would not vote for Kerry, or Edwards, Obama is no different.

There is no shortage of arrogance from his supporters who treat him with this messiah like reverence and who are incredulous that the rest of us havn't seen the light.

His wifes speeches and writings don't do much for my "sloth like self" with my "broken soul", that should have nothing to be proud of America about unless her husband gets elected".

It would be hard for me to describe what I have seen taking place.

The big orange has been lost in a mass paroxysm of exactly what I can't quite characterize. While the campaigners themselves have "performed" well, the media generated by the campaigns themselves has been largely dismal & the blogosphere itself significantly worse.

On a daily basis I am confronted by not just the frenzy (and it is a frenzy) of the utter collapse of the lefty blogs into a Blue State, but also my brilliant Ph.d sig other who is an Indie from way back & ran for Senate once himself spinning in circles & chanting NO MORE CLINTONS NO MORE BUSHES NO MORE CLINTONS NO MORE BUSHES like a small enraged toddler, reciting no less than one hundred anti-Clinton talking points he's been spoon fed by the mighty micro-partisan lefty blogs, radio & reinforced a thousand times nightly on the cable news channels. Not one of these sources do I trust more than the word of WKC. Not one.

I think the Clinton campaign has somewhat snarfed their core message from the get-go - it was always about viewpoint & perspective rather than hands-on experience, in my view, & they failed to capture that adequately. The campaign has been harder to defend than it should in easily avoidable ways & somewhat boneheaded. They've also had some really great moments that I am proud of.

As for your charges that CCN is the equivalent of a George Wallace (!?) site- I don't know, it never really occurs to me to seek out political pals on the other side of an issue & accuse them in a drive-by post of somehow marching with Mitt Romney & the gang. Or Eve Ensler & the gang. Or whatever.

The United States Army is probably one of the most progressive institutions in this country in terms of provideing & widening equal opportunity- for everyone.

If you take a gander over at kos right now, you will see that identity politics rules the day.

I think what you said is a reckless & unsupported charge & the "will stoop to anything" projection just makes me really sad. I think you should retract it.

I can not prefer O! of the two Dem candidates left standing for a few dozen legitimate reasons having nothing to do with gender or race & not be racist.

I defend him on this blog every week, and I can say on no uncertain terms there is no racism here at CCN.

Do you have any idea how embarrasing it is to be here defending Obama and have someone like you start throwing muck like this? What you do reflects on Sen. Obama and the rest of his supporters, I pay for your mistakes, I am held accountable for your behavior.

So do everyone a favor, stop drinking the tweety kool aid, take a chill pill and get a grip on reality and leave this to those who can debate on the merits instead of dragging the debate into the mud on a Clarkie appreciation thread.

Howard, if you have a specific complaint about racist comments posted here, feel free to send me a list of them by email at

. I will be more than happy to review them for racially disparaging remarks and remove them if necessary.

I will inform you, however, that the only racially incendiary terms that have been posted at CCN (and removed by me) were from an Obama supporter. The individual was cautioned NOT to continue to post such offensive terminology.

Racial epithets will not be tolerated here.

False accusations of racism are not welcome either.

Funny that I saw this post today. I used to be a regular visitor/commentator on the General Discussion (not so much blog post), but got out of the habit in early 2006 - can't say why. I was looking at the front page and remarking to myself that I didn't seem to recognize many of the names that I saw and wondered where many of them went.

I do sense a change in tone and I don't know when or how it changed but it does seem to have changed. Can't put my finger on it at least without some though, but there is a difference. I don't think it was an overnight thing - seems to have been a gradual or evolutionary thing (old guard making way for news) but I have to say this is not the site it was when I was one in 2003-2005.
