Fla. superdelegates could be super tiebreakers
Superdelegates could emerge as super tiebreakers -- but whether Florida's votes will count remains undecided.

So in a campaign where both candidates have achieved celebrity status, the real stars of 2008 may be the superdelegates.
Just read their fan mail. Murphy has received letters and e-mails from total strangers, including Anna Marie Barone of Westchester, N.Y., JoAnne Ruggeri of New York City and Stan Davis of Lakewood, Colo.
''They are our party leaders, our heroes who work day and night for the party, and I think they deserve their own separate voice,'' said Davis, who said he has e-mailed more than 200 superdelegates around the country, urging them to back Clinton.
Florida superdelegates said all of the letters have come from Clinton supporters, mirroring the campaign's efforts to win over superdelegates despite Obama's lead in the popular vote. A Clinton spokesman said he wasn't aware of the scattered letter-writing campaigns.
''For some reason, northern California seems to be very interested in me,'' quipped Broward Democratic Party Chairman Mitch Ceasar, who said he has gotten about a dozen letters from the region. ``I do read them all, but then I chuck them.''
Still, Florida superdelegates say they're getting the soft sell from the campaigns, compared with their counterparts in other states who are guaranteed convention seats.
''I'm not getting any wild calls from Bill or Chelsea, or any calls from the Obama side, either,'' said Diane Glasser, a longtime party activist in Broward County, and, at 80, the oldest Florida superdelegate. ``The ones pursuing me the most are in the media.'
