IN and NC Election Results 5/6/08
Submitted by jen on May 6, 2008 - 4:49pm.

It's early, but I wanted to get this started.
ms in la -- out on a sea cruise -- this is for you! :D (Hope you can check in!)
My predictions:
Hillary by 12 in Indiana
Hillary by 5 in North Carolina
Light some candles for Hillary!:
http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=hrc

Sheesh.
I heard that Fox is the place to get good results. Who knew?
"A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood of ideas in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people." JFK

But the drawback is I have to mute it and then look at the results. I couldn't stand looking at Rove. Looks like he may be gone now.

for Clinton? ;-)
Once in a while you get shown the light, In the strangest of places if you look at it right.
No matter how well Hillary does tonight, the talking heads will all spin it as though she actually lost. A win for her is no big deal, a win for O is BIG BIG NEWS! Even the tie in Guam was billed as a win for "O". I don't call 7 votes difference a win, I call it a tie.
and I'll quickly switch to Matthews just to watch him get upset at the exit poll voters like he did with NH.

Don't watch teevee! Watch poll results online, and with your bloggie friends! Stay positive! Light a candle! Send light!

Jeralyn: CNN exit polls: Liberal Dems are going for Obama, conservative for Dems for Hillary.
Update: 200,000 new voters in Indiana. No voting problems. Economy is most important issue, 54% of them going for Clinton. North Carolina: No voting problems. Dem. Party Chair Jerry Meek says Obama will win by single digits.
Update: CNN: Hillary's support among African American voters in both states in single digits. She's getting 8% in Indiana and 6% in North Carolina. ABC report on early exit polls here.
Fox has the exit polls in hand. I'll live blog: Working class vote: In both states they are going for Hillary. Indiana, 65% white voters no college for Hillary, 34% for Obama. NC 67% of this group for Hillary.
Rev. Wright: 48% in both states say Rev. Wright say is very important or somewhat important and huge margins of those went for Hillary.
Economy: Most in both states say the economy is their top issue. Hillary got most of them in Indiana, Obama got more of them in North Carolina.
(BTD) If the Indiana exit polls are accurate, Indiana had a higher African American vote than anticipated which means Obama comes closer in Indiana. In North Carolina, African American turnout is somewhat lower than anticipated, which is favorable to Clinton.

in IN not as large as expected.
Some wondering if workers will vote on the way home, but polls there close at 6pm. Some parts of IN on Central Time, some on Eastern Time.

The BBC was just discussing the exit polls (the same ones the US networks use). They thought it was strange that poor white voters were included as a group in the Indiana exit polls but ignored in the NC polls.

They brought out their crystal ball. However I do think it has been mentioned that they do have some of those bad e vote machines there.

the exit polls. According to them the exit polls show he won NC by significant amount. Saying there was a HUGE AA turnout for O! (double edge sword for him, imo). The interesting thing in these two primaries today will be watching the demographics and how they voted. What will be even more interesting is watching which demographics in the party the SD's will kick to the curb after all is said and done? And what will be just as interesting is whether O!...with the DNC's help....kick MI and FL voters to the curb in order to win.
"speaking for myself only"

But they have Hillary leading by 5 percent. But it also says 0% reporting.

I can't believe Fox calling people who vote for Hillary are lower class people. I yhink I have as much class as anyone else and I voted for Hillary.

BECAUSE he got 91% of the Black vote according to Hume on Fox...as he explained why no call for Hillary in IN. Because requested 3 polling stations stay open as they ran out of ballots...ugh...this sucks

by the window. I'm agreeing with Bob Bennett.
Acckkkkk.
Whoops. Now he lost me again. Praise be.

does anyone think the fact that O! is winning NC due to the AA vote will play a role in the Super Ds decision?
Once in a while you get shown the light, In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

he can't win the blue collar whites...and others in Hillary's demographic.....and that he can't win the GE without them. That O! cannot win the GE with the demographics he's carrying right now. Can't do it.
Then he said Hillary can't pull this out...it's too late. In fact far righties on the panel are all saying Hillary is DOA...which tells me they can't get rid of her fast enuff cuz they know she CAN win the GE against McCain. That's where they lost me. But then....I knew sooner or later they would.
These bobble heads are so worthless to listen to. Truly. I don't know why I'm doing it.
Governor Corzoine of NJ, appeared at a rally with Bill Clinton last night in downtown Raleigh.
That makes me think that Obama is not polling well in NJ and may be a drag on the coat-tail effects in NJ. Anybody know about those NJ polls? I started wondering if Corzoine would be contacting some of the uncommitted NC super delegates and informing them of this. Just seemed very strange to see him here.

Donna Brazile just said the Dem party is expanding/changing. Barack doesn't need "blue collar" votes to win the GE!

either....
Once in a while you get shown the light, In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

Just heard it. Donna Brazile has already decided who she is kicking to the curb.
I "told" her I can't wait to see HER new party members canvassing my area. They better buy new shoes. In fact, they had better make them boots and go for comfort rather than style. I can't wait. ;)
Saw the exchange with Begala, Campbell Brown...I thought Donna was gonna cry. She's royally defensive about saying its just the AA and egghead vote that went for O. Campbell told her "you have been undecided but this appears to me to be telling us who you are for" Donna said, not undecided, but undeclared. I'm trying to bring my party together.
Campbell had to call a halt and go to commercial. Donna really let her true colors show. She does NOT like being told that O is winning only because of the black vote. Guess she considers that a slap in the face.

lousy job! She may want to start with treating Florida fairly.
"Our public servants work for us - we don't work for them. We have an obligation, as citizens of this country, to always remember that - and to never let them forget it." - DeadMessengers
is out of her mind, if she has one. She can't be serious: win the GE with the AA and Elite vote, with the party base decamping or staying home? I don't think so!

I for one won't be around.....and something tells me I won't be alone.
Stupid Dems
BTW Talk Left is down
"A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood of ideas in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people." JFK

I consider myself one of those blue collar workers. I will be sure to remember that when I mark or don't mark my ballot in the GE. (Edit: I should add if O is the nominee). What's this woman been smoking or drinking?
the Dem world has gone crazy. I want to thank all of you who post results and intelligence here. I haven't had the stomach to venture out beyond this blog for some time.

From Kos that I totally agree with:
"Another benefit of the extended primary -- a serious political lesson for all of us. I've learned more about state regions and counties and towns this year than the entire rest of my life combined."
"It takes two to speak the truth - one to speak and one to hear." - Henry David Thoreau
GOOOOO Hillary!!!!

as well. Whoot!
Finally some good news.
Zoey is right....CSPAN2 better. But...
caller for O! just says she voted for him cuz of his 2004 speech at the Convention and he makes all of us want to be better people. (Good gawd almighty!) Then...
launches into attacking Hillary.
Zowie! Are some of these peeps in for an eye opener if they get their way.
The good news is.....Hillary WINS IN. Just what she needed to do. Steady as she goes!

saying that Hillary has the establishment, the money, the name. Question should not be why can't O! close the deal, but why can't Hillary close? From what I've been seeing it's been all O all the time from the media, and he's got the money and the establishment. Woefully misinformed little voter out there in VA from my view.
I hope she pulls ahead more in IN! In any case, she won it and she isn't going anywhere! WooHoo!!!
Why I am so disappointed in NC, I can't say, but I am. I honestly thought she'd do better. BUT, it's only 28% counted, so she could still close the gap!
Once in a while you get shown the light, In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

The recent Voter ID Supreme Court ruling takes out some nuns!
Yep NUNS trying to be fraudulent voters! Can you BELIEVE IT?
Brad cites the Election Protection midday press release:
This morning, in South Bend, Indiana, a freshman student at St. Mary's College, excited to vote for the first time, left the polling place in tears because she only possessed a private college ID and was unable to vote. The poll workers, nuns at a local convent, were trying to help the young student through her problem. While they were helping her, they realized that some of their fellow nuns, who had just arrived at the polling place, also could not vote because of the photo ID law. Not only was this group of nuns disenfranchised, but so would be four floors of retired nuns in their convent.

Wes Clark Democrats...let the Clinton campaign know who sent you
has good coverage...Craig Crawford in the stuudio. He has the most even-handed commentary of anyone I have seen this primary season.
That is probably why MSNBC, specifically Countdown, doesn't have Crawford on anymore - because he is not biased and NOT pro-Obama.
A bunch of us started a thread on the MSNBC comments blog a while back and got him invited to be on a few times but they don't have him on much anymore because he refuses to agree with KO, Tweety, Mika, etc. if they are incorrect in their analysis. Some say he is a Hillary supporter but he is not. He is mearly someone who is fair and has pretty spot on analysis. He just seems like a supporter because so many members of the press are giving Obama a pass.
I'm watching NOVA - it's about botanists studying the prehistoric living plant records found in China, and the current flowers of China. GORGEOUS scenery and plants in high definition. I cannot stomach any of the pundits, so will keep up with vote totals via computer. Thank you for your comments and strong constitution to be able to watch any of them.
....acceptance speech in Indiana - if you know when she's coming on let us know, please........

because small counties haven't come in yet in NC, we're going to see the effects of Bill Clinton's appeal as the counts come in. He doesn't mention Hillary's effects -- it's all going to be a rejection of Bill if the small counties don't come in for Clinton.
Once in a while you get shown the light, In the strangest of places if you look at it right.
has been doing a lot of the campaigning in those small counties and that is the point Craig was making.

Exactly where are these millions of extra voters going to come from in the space between the annointing & the GE again?
How many states do they want to flip the wrong way- it only takes one.
Hope. Change. Cliche.
Got it.
I guess I'm used to not having a president.
Gonna wash that D right outta my hair, I'll tell you.

as I listen to this unwanted speech drift into the room I'm in, they would fall right through the other side to China.

she said Dem party doesn't need blue collar or Hispanics. She's apparently blowing a fuse on CNN.
Read this at Talk Left, definitely NOT watching!

They are reporting from NC Board of elections...
The NC board of elections is showing the state at 56-41 Obama.
MSm is behind...Gap is closing...thats good. Her votes coming in.

called out Brazile on being an O! supporter! LOL!! Almost wish I'd seen it! Hoping for a YouTube of Brazile's melt down! LOL!!
Actually, it's not funny. She's done a lot of damage to our Party over the years, but this year takes the cake.

stamps at one point so me and my sister could go to the best schools on scholarships." ?
Anyone want to tell me I'm reading something negative ointo that comment that I shouldn't?? Please??
"Our public servants work for us - we don't work for them. We have an obligation, as citizens of this country, to always remember that - and to never let them forget it." - DeadMessengers
What will a lot of white voters think about his mom being on food stamps? Let's face it! And I wonder if it's even true. He's told so many lies about his family.

as the implication of the statement, which, again this is just how it struck me - that his mother deliberately went on food stamps (at one point) so her income would be low enough for Obama and his sister to qualify for (economic)scholarships to the best schools.
It implys fraud. That's what people would be enraged about, I think.

My mom raised 5 kids in Chicago on food stamps. Guess I should be disappointed with her for not being 'clever enough' to work the system.

Eggheads and AAs

Paul Begala's question to Donna Brazile about this "New Democratic Party" she's talking about -- "do you think we can win elections with a coalition of egg-heads and African Americans?" (paraphrase). Ooh boy, she is defensive. She even acknowledged it, referring to herself as "grumpy."
Apparently, Donna has had more beers with more "Joe Six Packs" than most whites.
Okay, she's grumpy with everyone. She's shouting at the whole panel. Why's she worried if Obama is as good as the nominee?
Donna's meltdown is almost reason enough to watch CNN.

She's as subtle as ebola.

I thought she might lean over and punch that one guy when he asked about Obama's relationships - Ayers, Wright, etc.
She really got a little vicious there.

WTF?! Tell me he didn't just say that! Maybe he meant the Kenyan flag?
"Our public servants work for us - we don't work for them. We have an obligation, as citizens of this country, to always remember that - and to never let them forget it." - DeadMessengers

and it shows I mis-heard the two comments...and he really didn't say things that stupid, and none of the pundits caught it.
Ah well....off to work!
"Our public servants work for us - we don't work for them. We have an obligation, as citizens of this country, to always remember that - and to never let them forget it." - DeadMessengers

I heard them too, but I've heard him say both comments the "right" way too. I wonder that either of the candidates can speak coherently after the last couple weeks of campaigning...
"It takes two to speak the truth - one to speak and one to hear." - Henry David Thoreau

I nearly fell out of the chair when I heard that part - and I almost never listen to his full speeches because of, well, no need to elaborate that...
But, the implication, to me at least, in the context of his speech, was that his father's coffin was draped with an American flag, as in because he was a vet. Uhhhh......last I heard he wasn't even a citizen. So, I'm hoping he meant a Kenyan flag - since his father was considerably more than a goat herder, was the son of a chief, and a member of the government.
