Fool's Paradise

I'm sort of stunned by some of the things I've been reading lately. Conspiracy fear of the worst sort.

I'm too afraid to open this so-called 'Pandora's Box' and see what's inside, eh?

LOL. You got the wrong guy.

Mmm. Let's see:

Well, it would seem that according to some, including a few here at CCN, we've 'underestimated white ethnics' and how hard it will be for Obama to win votes from them. I guess to these folks, Lincoln was really wrong after all and that whole Civil War victory thing was some kind of fluke accident. Apparently some of these folks would really just not remember that it even happened at all or that we won! Or maybe they don't count themselves among the 'we' in the 'we won' part.

Too bad for them.

What else do we have in here? Oh! White power! White power groups are gonna intimidate and terrorize white folks so that they aren't gonna be able to vote for Obama if they wanted to!

Maybe you've already considered that for every white power group there is another group that opposses it. Maybe you've already considered your city police, the FBI, the ATF, and all kinds of other alphabet soup agencies that hunt white power groups full time. Did I say they 'hunt' them? You bet your ass they hunt them. You think perhaps some of these agents, if not the vast majority, have thought of some of the same things these folks have, these fearful, timid souls who doubt democracy?

I'll let you in on a secret. Some of these guys, these alphabet soup guys, these serious guys, want nothing more than to land upon white power with both feet. Believe it. There is bad blood between law enforcement and white power. Take a look back in the news archives if you haven't been watching developments. For instance, there is a group in Southern California that made a public announcement that they were going to start targeting police officers families in retaliation for methampetamine busts the LA cops were making. Remember the fact that the DoJ has been hunting the Aryan Brotherhood prison cartel for a while now. Even Bush DoJ folks hate the A.B. with a passion. Especially after the reports that A.B. members were trying to contact foreign groups on the terror watch list in order to get help in their fight with the U.S. cops.

Why doesn't this story make the headlines? Bad for the U.S. image abroad.

Let's see, oh yeah, there's also the little problem white power has with 'other ethnic oriented' groups like MS-13, who are also hunted by law enforcement, but have a little bit of power on the streets nonetheless. Did I also forget to mention that there are a few 'older and wiser' Panthers still floating around out there? Not a few of them with combat experience in Vietnam? Who do you think they are going to put the pressure on? You? Me? Or white power groups?

Maybe some renegade vets join white power groups? We all know there were U.S. units that flew CSA rebel flags in Vietnam, we've seen the footage. Please, don't make me tremble. For every renegade vet that joins one of these groups there are a dozen vets who will fight them. Serious guys.

White power isn't going to get a monopoly on combat experience, I think if you are entertaining that kind of thought, you've been watching too many neocon horror flicks. Get over yourself and dispense with this fear, it's childish thinking at it's best and full blown fear-mongering at it's worst.

Stand down.

How many actually believe that white supremacy groups are plotting to curtail votes for Obama? I assume you do not and merely think there are deluded dolts out in the hinterlands wringing their work-roughened hands over the prospect--or rubbing them in glee, whichever. I personally made some half-kidding comment about the Klan in IN, WV, etc. not being the kind to support BO. (Of course, some of these folk are the sort who're looking for brotherhood and could easily become Moonies, O-bots, or whatever is handy.) Anyway, such hate groups are now small and disjointed and probably do little more than fly Confederate or Nazi flags and sit around blathering. I can't imagine any of them having high enough IQ's to plot some way to curtail Obama voters. And how would they know who's voting for who? Would they stop only folk sporting BO slogans? But, let's face it: there are some people who haven't become as enlightened as you or I. They may fear people of other ethnicities, cultures, or classes. Candidates facing this prospect must alleviate their anxieties, and sometimes the former just seems too alien to do so. Look at the white men who've been denied the Presidency because of this!
I think, however, that you incorrectly believe that such prejudice will cause a backlash and that right-thinking people will turn to Obama in a ground-swell of support to right the wrongs of the ages. This HAS happened among some bleeding-heart liberals and desperate progressives. But the bulk of the common people don't think that way. It has been a very steep uphill climb for a woman--Hillary--to gain their trust. She's had years to do it and a much-loved husband/ex-Prez at her side. It's an even bigger hurdle for a non-white, and Obama simply has too many other issues that disturb too many people.

Maybe not you.

Hillary hasn't gained the public's trust.

She's parleyed what was left of Bill Clinton's legacy and her gender to organize a minority of elderly white ethnocentric nationalists to a banner that has come to stand for fear-mongering, attempts to escape responsibility for failed policies like NAFTA and a nationalization of Big Pharma interests that promoted an agenda of /punishing/ Americans who cannot afford healthcare insurance. These are the same Democrats that ran ads in 2006 telling Americans "DON'T VOTE".

She's behind Obama in EVERY metric that the media can come up with and her own superdelegates are deserting her in droves. As of today her committed superdelegate advantage is down to 2! She has no more primaries to look to for reinforcement and her campaign is out of money.

Wake up and smell the coffee, briarhopper. The only question that is left to answer is how many Democrats are going to secceed from the party and join a small band of antagonistic renegade Republicans who form their core around an even smaller group of religious fanatics.

Do I sound harsh? Maybe I do. But this is nothing to what is coming to those who dragged this country into the Iraq War where over FOUR THOUSAND AMERICANS and maybe FIFTY THOUSAND OR MORE Iraqis have died.

Clark has told you. WAR IS PERMANENT. There is no do-over and no second chances.

Hillary was wrong and it has cost alot of lives. She had a chance to make a stand during the most important foreign policy decision that has been made in a generation. And she got it wrong.

Wrong.

Supporting Obama isn't about making some age old mistake right, it's about trying to make something right about a mistake that was made 5 years ago, not 150. But to see Barack Obama sworn is as President of the United States?

This isn't my main thing with Obama, with me it's the fact that he's from the South Side of Chicago and ran some of the same kinds of streets that I did. Did the same kind of community work that I did. Talked to and learned from some of the same kind of people I did. Came up from like, like I try to do.

But yeah, call me a little superstitious maybe, but wherever 360,000 Union soldiers are who died during the Civil War, wherever those souls have gone, I hope they rest a little easier in eternity knowing that WE ARE CARRYING THE FIGHT.

Jesus, this kind of thing gets me riled. I'm gonna take a break. Thanks for corresponding, briarhopper, we didn't get off on the right foot, but I think you might hang in. I hope you do. I hope all of you do.

What a glorious fight this will be. :D

Heh heh.

I want unopposed--by him anyway! Dear God, it seems naive to me to think that electing a black guy will vindicate the Civil War dead! And to vote for someone simply because he ran the same Chicago streets! Let alone that Obama may have been laying the groundwork for a political career--but let's let that go, or DonL may get even more riled if he ever reads this! This is like voting for someone black because you are black--or--uh oh--white because you are white. And, gee, if nobody trusts Hillary, why is she wracking up such poll numbers against McCain, a twenty-year-plus Senator and war hero? She "voted for the war", and BO said he wouldn't if he was in the U.S. Congress which he wasn't but if he was he would have...oh, well. That whitewashes (no pun intended) every other bad judgment he's made, like the self-described "boneheaded" land deal with Rezko, the tutorship under America-hating Rev. Wright, and the political plotting with flag-stomping terrorist Ayers. His nomination will get us President John McCain, but the BOers can just keep drinking Starbucks coffee and lamenting what racist, gun-crazy, flag-waving fools the Clintonites are.
