Petition for Hillary as VP

To Hillary Loyalists,

Hillary was magnificent last night. The woman power in the room was also remarkable. For every woman in the room there were thousands around the country who want Hillary on the ticket. We need to harness our strength for Hillary as quickly as possible.

Here is action you can take right away. Go to www.voteboth.com; click on the petition addressed to Senator Obama and sign it.

We want Hillary on the ticket as the Vice-Presidential nominee because we do not believe we will win if she is not on the ticket.

While this is obvious to us, there is little evidence the other camp understands how critical she is to the success of the ticket.

2,000,000 signatures behind this idea will go far in demonstrating the power of Hillary’s support.

We believe Hillary must be on the ticket because it is the only way many women, seniors, Catholics, working class men and women, Hispanics, and Jewish Americans will vote for the ticket.

We believe Hillary must be on the ticket because she polls ahead of McCain in Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan; states critical to our victory this fall.

We believe Hillary must be on the ticket because she wins the big states and the swing states; states the Democrats need to reach the 270 electoral votes required for success in November. States won by Hillary represent 300 electoral votes; states won by Obama represent 217.

We believe Hillary must be on the ticket because more Americans voted for her than for any primary candidate in history. 18,000,000 Democrats chose her to lead the country and the free world.

We believe Hillary must be on the ticket because it is the only way we will be willing to put our full, essential energy and effort behind the ticket between now and November.

Please forward this email to others who share your commitment to Hillary on the ticket, quickly. Every signature is another ‘vote’ for Hillary on the ticket.

Onward!

Sen. Clinton shouldn't soil her reputation on that ticket. Not even she can save Obama! Better she leads a veto-proof majority in Congress!

After hearing Doris Kearns Goodwin comment on NPR yesterday (sorry, I don't have a link) about the advantages to Hillary of having the VP slot, and doing a lot of thinking about how the country might best be served (for example, having a the Executive Branch run by a Party that actually knows how to govern), I left the following comment at the Obama web site.

"Please pass this along to Carolyn Kennedy, Jim Johnson and Eric Holder, who are advising on VP selection.

It is clear to me that the Democratic Party has two major wings of approximately equal strength - and it needs BOTH to make the November election a landslide for Democrats. I'm disappointed that many of those who have supported Barack Obama seem determined to cut off the wing represented by those who voted for Hillary Clinton. I'm telling you, if that happens, the Dem-bird won't fly!

I believe that offering Hillary Clinton the VP slot on the ticket will go a long way towards ensuring a Democratic victory in the fall - call it the "unity ticket". I would hate to see the Party pass up this chance to have a ticket that could ensure we don't have another squeaker of an election that could be stolen by Republicans.

I can't think of anyone better qualified for VP than the woman who came so close to being the Presidential nominee. Since Hillary and Barack are so close on their policy stands, it's difficult for me to see a reason for not choosing her as a running mate (except the "cut off the wing" reason mentioned above). If I am in any way representative of those who voted for Senator Clinton in the primaries, I would find it hard not to vote for a ticket that included her. She would be the first woman VP and I think she has earned the privilege to serve in that capacity. I'm not the type who would vote for just any woman in the VP slot. In fact, I would consider it a slap in the face of Hillary and those who have supported her if Barack chose a different woman as a running mate.

I hope you will give my thoughts your respectful consideration."

Of course, I still believe that Hillary is the BEST candidate for POTUS. I also believe that whatever decisions she makes will be based on what's in the best interest of the American people and I will support her.
