Winds of Change, Shifting Sands

I've spent a lot of time the past few years pondering the way the winds of life can blow us into unexpected, and sometimes unpleasant places. Places that in our wildest dreams (or darkest nightmares) we never imagined we would be.

The only constant in life is change, they say. Like death and taxes it seems inevitable.

Each of us here have changed since we first came together in the name of Wes Clark.

It's funny isn't it, that some of those changes have brought us to this day and time, where some have felt they are no longer welcome at the place we've called "home" for so long. How we seem to have gone from being united to being fractured in a way that almost seems beyond repair.

Some of our long time posters have left the blog now that the primaries have ended, as some left the blog when it was still taking place.

That is one of the shifts in the sands of our lives that is hardest to accept for most of us. I don't think anyone wishes to remove the beach in order to reshape it, but it seems important parts of it have moved to another shoreline.

How will the winds of our lives shift the sands in the weeks and months ahead, I wonder?

Will the winds be gentle or rough, warm or cold?

Will the sand under our feet feel soft and comforting or rough and glasslike as we walk along the edge of the ocean of the world in which we live.

These are questions I cannot answer. No one person can. The answer can only come from the heart and motivation of each of the individuals involved in helping to shape what comes next.

I really truly hope that even if it comes to pass that we can't walk arm in arm, that we do find we can at least congregate around the warmth of a campfire built on those shifting sands to smile and laugh and remember the things we shared, the things we hold dear, including old friendships and even past fights, and though we may find ourselves to still be of differing opinions on some things that we realize that each of us is still a valuable and integral part of a great community. The Wes Clark community.

The Democratic primary contest between Hillary and Obama has clearly left some strong and hard feelings on both sides BUT that is the smaller picture of things involving Gen. Clark and this blog in my opinion!

Gen. Clark and this blog have been around long before the 2008 Presidential election and I am sure that they will still be around long after this election is over!

I think that members of this blog can decide to sit out the Presidential election if they honestly do not think that Obama is qualified to be President and they can definitely still be a part of what Gen. Clark is doing by helping out any one or more of the numerous local down ballot candidates who Gen. Clark has endorsed this year!

I am sure that everyone here can agree on and can find common ground right now that we support Gen. Clark, the core principles that he stands for, and the local candidates who he has endorsed for the 2008 election!

Once this election is over, I am sure that we will still be united around Gen. Clark, the core principles that he stands for, and the candidates who he decides to endorse in the future. That is the big picture of things as far as Gen. Clark and this blog are concerned in my opinion!

But until the Presidential election is over, I do not think that anyone should be trying to force their own opinions on other people who disagree with them about Obama. It has been said that "a person who is convinced against their will is of the same opinion still!"

My blog has nothing to do with forcing anyone to do anything. Maybe you didn't notice that. :)

Just speaking my hopes into the ethers so that they might be heard.

Hoping that any that feel unwelcome here will come to realize that they are still important to me and that I hope they will return.

and find common ground on right now as well as in the future even if there is disagreement among us about Obama and some of the things that happenened in the primary. That is the main point which I was trying to make in my comment above!

to your main point then.

It would have struck a little better chord with me. :)
