Officer Needed in the Oval Office?
I'm posting the best part of the article below...
Adrian Lewis, a professor of military history at the University of Kansas, said today's generals and admirals "serve in so many different countries in so many different parts of the world (that) you get a breadth of vision of the world that you don't get in the middle of Kansas. McCain does not have the experience at that level of command. He was not an admiral."
John Kessel, a professor of political science at Ohio State University, said President Eisenhower's job as supreme allied commander in Europe in World War II gave him "more experience in high-level administration than virtually any other president we've had. If you have had administrative experience, a military background can be important."
Lewis noted Eisenhower's decision in 1954 not to send U.S. combat divisions to Vietnam to relieve the beleaguered French garrison at Dien Bien Phu. A decade later, Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, who both served as junior Navy officers in World War II, dispatched American ground troops to Vietnam, where nearly 58,000 died in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the Communists from conquering South Vietnam.
In 2003, Gen. Anthony Zinni, a former commander of the U.S. Central Command, warned against using U.S. troops to topple Saddam Hussein. But Bush, whose military experience consisted of serving stateside in the Texas Air National Guard, ordered the invasion of Iraq, where more than 140,000 American troops remain today.
"Bush didn't understand squat about the rest of the world," Lewis said. "Clark's a smart man. ... He's dealt with heads of states. Does he have a broader view than George Bush, who was governor of the state of Texas? Yes, he does."
Yes indeed.... Clark is a smart man. :)

In 1956 Ike stopped the UN sanctioned elections because Uncle Ho would have won.
From the Vietnam Declaration Of Indepencence 9-2-1945
We are convinced that the Allied nations which at Tehran and San Francisco have acknowledged the principles of self-determination and equality of nations, will not refuse to acknowledge the independence of Vietnam.
A people who have courageously opposed French domination for more than eighty years, a people who have fought side by side with the Allies against the Fascists during these last years, such a people must be free and independent.
For these reasons, we, members of the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, solemnly declare to the world that Vietnam has the right to be a free and independent country and in fact it is so already. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to mobilise all their physical and mental strength, to sacrifice their lives and property in order to safeguard their independence and liberty.
Just another example of how we can fuck up a wet dream.

George Marshall, his mentor from Joe McCarthy's scurrilous attacks regarding George Marshall's patriotism. I like Ike but that was inexcusable.
Who did Ike consult when he had his famous problem with Patton?
Whose plan was the D - Day plan for the normandy invasion.
George Marshall.

As you all know, Obama's acceptance speech is set to take place on an important MLK anniversary. Not content with the unearned (imho) symbolism, it is now rumored that he wants to make that speech in a GD football stadium!!
Not enough puffery for ya?
His staff us currently sussing out the possibility of him making a speech at the Brandenburg Gate during his up coming European trip!!!!!!
Wonder if he'll take his nifty seal along with him..

I think it's a great idea to open the convention up to the general public, don't you? And a speech at to Brandenburg gate will probably draw hundreds of thousands...which I think would be great for America and the world.
Your snide comments regarding Obama do not reflect well on you, imho. It's says more about you than it does Obama and sullies this blog.
"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism" - Whoever said it, it's true.

He'll need a rock band to fill that stadium....just like he needed in Oregon...
And what exactly has he done that would draw hundreds of thousands of Europeans, exactly?

Nice warm-up act.
Free Concert by Popular Band Preceded Obama’s Big Rally | NewsBusters.org
The band is apparently known for starting off their concerts with the Soviet National Anthem.
From a blooger posting below that article.

"You'll get a better idea what Colin Meloy and his merry band members are about. The band has a musical history of mocking America and American ideals while using the imagery and language of Communism. Note the picture of Che on the Dollar bill in the Video."

16 military wives
The Decemberists
Sixteen military wives
Thirty-two softly focused brightly colored eyes
Staring at the natural tan
of thirty-two gently clenching wrinkled little hands
Seventeen company men
Out of which only twelve will make it back again
Sergeant sends a letter to five
Military wives, whose tears drip down through ten little eyes
Cheer them on to their rivals
Cause America can, and America can't say no
And America does, if America says it's so
It's so!
And the anchorperson on TV goes...
La de da de da
Fifteen celebrity minds
Leading their fifteen sordid wretched checkered lives
Will they find the solution in time
Using their fifteen pristine moderate liberal minds?
Eighteen academy chairs
Out of which only seven really even care
Doling out the garland to five
Celebrity minds, they're humbly taken by surprise
Cheer them on to their rivals
Cause America can, and America can't say no
And America does, if America says it's so
It's so!
And the anchorperson on TV goes...
La de da de da de-dadedade-da
La de da de da de-dadedade-da
Fourteen cannibal kings
Wondering blithely what the dinner bell will bring
Fifteen celebrity minds
Served on a leafy bed OF sixteen military wives
Cheer them on to their rivals
Cause America can, and America can't say no
And America does, if America says it's so
It's so!
And the anchorperson on TV goes...

Now if you think this is an appropriate warm-up act for the next President of the United States. Good for you.
Maybe he can have them play at the inagural.

I certainly would align myself with the sentiment of that song.
I personally wouldn't have chosen them as a warm up act for Obama, but that song was a sort of wake up for a lot of young peeps around the country.
But if you're saying that they're anti-American, well I find that interesting. They're certainly anti-ThatideaofAmericanPower.

I'm guessing you didn't read the content of that particular post, or the comments section.. Whew.. some serious intolerance on display there. :/

throwing Wes under the bus. You can't say he didn't, because we know his campaign did. No good cop bad cop excuses work here.
Or go back to your hidey hole.

The wall is gone over there? The cold war ended twenty years ago and now Russia is richer than ever. If he wants to call himself a donut the way JFK did, he doesn't have to go to the Brandenburg gate.
Did you know the Invesco Mile High Stadium was built in 2001 right next to the original Mile High Stadium-- which was demolished to become the new Invesco Stadium Parking lot-- which was originally built on top of ... a dump?
Yes, it was originally a Denver landfill.
Huh.
The stadium "event" looks like it's already booked for Obama, it appears? See Stadium site:
http://denver.citysearch.com/profile/46622028/american_presidential_experience.html
And it's being billed as: "American Presidential Experience"...
It's aways good to tie in to the icons for anything and everything. a favorite Axelrodian tactic. In this 'Presidential Experience' case, they get a bang for their buck with a two-fer...
The last night is when Obama would accept the Democratic nomination for president. Aug. 28 also happens to be the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, given to thousands at The Mall in Washington DC.
Moving to Invesco from the convention hall would not be an unprecedented event. In 1960, the Democratic National Convention was held at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena but nominee John F. Kennedy delivered his acceptance speech next door at the Memorial Coliseum, PoliticsWest.com reported.

There already no hotel rooms and the press has been looking to rent private residences since last summer. My friend who lives in Denver told me about it. I suppose everybody in Denver could rent out their house and take a vacation, so O can have his American Presidential Experience, although it's a nomination experience, not an inauguration.
...to have to cover two sites. That's pretty arrogant on the part of the DNC. Another reason why they will seen not one penny from me.
he is the presumptive 44th President of the U.S., so "presidential experience" would seem an appropriate title for the event.
"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism" - Whoever said it, it's true.
the same "Freedom Cages" for protestors I heard.
Because nothing says Welcome to the Democratic Convention like Freedom Cages. : /

Republicans think if they lose 3 or 4 senate seats this year, they are doing well. Democrats really need 60 solid senate seats. We need to be sure we have a co-equal legislative branch that does it's job in terms of checks and balances. They should not be a rubberstamp for anybody sitting in the oval office.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-senate6-2008jul06,0,7335615.story
We also need to be clear on the definition of a "Democrat".
It's not always someone with a "D".
Lieberman should have taught us that one.
There are plenty of other "folks" with D's that vote with R's thereby blasting the whole 60 vote majority theory out of the water. We need to be able to ferret out the faux D's from the real D's. And judging from our recent selections... we have a long way to go at perfecting that one! :)
Clue: Pearls and well defined side-parts are good hints.
Remember the excitement when we returned the Democratic Party to a majority in 2006? The news was abuzz with hope, and change, and a rapid end to the war in Iraq, and a new beginning, and the end of the horrible Bush regime, and a true check and balance on the excesses of this administration, you know the list... Funny to see where all of that is now. Actually not funny at all, given the cost in blood and treasure, but still it should make progressives stop and ponder.
So now we have Barack Obama moving to the center, and to the right, even before the nomination. I wonder how far to the right he could be by the election, and if he wins, by the inauguration, and by the time he starts influencing policy. I hope it is not a rerun of 2006, or worse. Just an observation that the signs are not very promising.

We just didn't have a big enough majority to block the Repuplican hijinx. Still we managed to end the rubberstamp congress, which was something to be sure.

The blue dog Ds would feel better about voting with the majority. In places where conservative Ds win, you have choices between Republicans like Pat Roberts or a more conservative Democrat who is still better than Pat Roberts even on the worst of the votes.

Denver is in Colorado. And, yes, Florida is an important state. Too bad they were dissed by the DNC after their primary.

If you haven't had a chance yet to let General
Clark know how much you appreciate his being
out there drawing attention to National Security
issues and straightening out the lying media,
now's your chance. Give a few bucks to let him
