REFUTATION: Answers to what the McCain campaign & the RNC said about Gen. Clark!

Hello Everyone:
Here are all of the McCain campaign's official "Press Releases" (there are a lot of them) and all of the Republican National Committee's (RNC's) official "Research Briefings" I found that are specifically designed to smear Gen. Clark, that take his words out of context by falsely saying that he questioned John McCain's military service, and that wrongly refer to Gen. Clark as being an Obama surrogate:

Here is an excellent article and YouTube video link that easily refutes all of this baseless nonsense which I call "the anti-Clark Kool-Aid" that a lot of people and which many pundits in the media are unfortunately drinking right now:

What Wesley Clark Really Said About John McCain (4:33)
"If you're not familiar the controversy, consider yourself lucky. In short, Wesley Clark said on CBS yesterday that being shot down in a fighter plane was not a qualification for being president.
People twisted Clark's comment into being a slam on John McCain, but as I showed on this video, he was merely rejecting an attack on Barack Obama leveled by Bob Schieffer. Still, that hasn't stopped the media from pumping up the controversy.
I've posted video from MSNBC and FOX after the jump if you're interested in seeing what the media blowhards are spewing forth. (I warn you, it's not pretty!)..."
For the record, Gen. Clark has NEVER attacked John McCain's military service as both the McCain campaign and the RNC have accused him of doing BUT rather he has praised it which is just a plain and simple fact as the context of what Gen. Clark said very clearly shows:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, “FACE THE NATION”/CBS/SUNDAY)
GEN. WESLEY CLARK, OBAMA SUPPORTER: I certainly honor his service as a prisoner of war. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in the armed forces as a prisoner of war. He has been a voiced on the Senate Armed Services Committee and he has traveled all over the world but he hasn‘t held executive responsibility...
ABRAMS: Does it show anything, though, about John McCain‘s character that he had the opportunity to leave and he didn‘t, that he gave himself for his country and refused to go home when he had an opportunity?
CLARK: Well, I honor John McCain‘s characters and I said in the show, he has been one of my heroes for a long time. I like John McCain. He‘s been over to my house and everything. This is about qualifications to be president. That‘s what this is about...
That‘s what this is about..."
Also "for the record," Gen. Clark "appeared on face the nation on his own. Nothing was coordinated with the Obama campaign" so he was NOT a surrogate for Obama which both the McCain campaign and the RNC are saying:

Submitted by cagrunden on July 3, 2008 - 5:00pm.
The obvious bottom line to all of this in my opinion cutting through all of the spin is that Gen. Clark is being used politically by the McCain campaign, by the RNC, and by their allies to try and score cheap political points against Obama. Gen. Clark has also been used by many pundits in the media to try and grab some big headlines. This, along with the fact that many spineless Democrats who probably know better and will not defend him, is absolutely disgraceful and unprofessional behavior in my opinion!
These are people who do not seem to care at all about Gen. Clark or about the true context of what he said. The McCain campaign and the RNC are only using Gen. Clark as a political tool to try and get at Obama while many in the media have mainly used him for story lines!
Some people here may not like to see these horrible McCain campaign and RNC links posted BUT as mean, as rotten, and as unfair as these awful links are, Gen. Clark's supporters have got to know what is being publicly said about him by the other side in order to be able to effectively defend him! How can we help to defend Gen. Clark from the other side's attacks if we do not even know what those attacks are?
Here is some credible information that you can use to accurately define and defend Gen. Clark from these kind of cheap McCain campaign and RNC smear tactics:

George McGovern Says McCain's War Experience Not a Qualification for the White House
Posted by smilligan July 8, 2008 08:28 PM
By Susan Milligan
Globe staff
WASHINGTON -- He was a fighter pilot in World War II, bombing targets in Europe to stop Hitler. But former Senator and 1972 Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern says that didn't qualify him to run the country -- and the same goes for GOP presumptive nominee John McCain.
``I don't have any regrets about that,'' the antiwar Democratic stalwart said in a brief interview yesterday on Capitol Hill. ``While bombing is a terrible thing, we smashed Hitler's oil refineries all over Europe.''
``But I don't recall ever saying that experience as a bomber pilot equipped me to be very strong on how to run a war, how to command the armed forces,'' said McGovern, who will turn 86 on July 18.
Retired General Wesley Clark, a onetime candidate for president himself, raised ire when he said recently that McCain's experience in Vietnam -- while laudable -- did not qualify him to be commander-in-chief. While noting that he honored McCain's service -- including his years as a prisoner-of-war -- Clark said late last month that McCain has not held ``executive responsibility,'' and added, ``I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.''
The remarks on CBS's ``Face the Nation'' were immediately derided by McCain's supporters. But McGovern said Clark had it right.
``I think General Clark was misunderstood,'' McGovern said Tuesday evening as he visited the House chamber where he once served. ``He wasn't belittling [McCain] at all.''
McGovern, who remains a fervent anti-hunger activist, was in town to present an award to Representative Jim McGovern [no relation to the former senator] for the Worcester Democrat's own contributions to fighting hunger. The younger McGovern last year lived a week on $3 worth of food a day -- approximately the amount allowed to individuals receiving food stamps -- to underscore the struggle hungry Americans face daily.
Former South Dakota Senator McGovern -- forced to drop his first vice presidential choice, former Missouri Senator Thomas Eagleton, from the 1972 ticket after it was disclosed that Eagleton had received shock treatment therapy -- said his advice to Democratic presumptive nominee Barack Obama is to ``first, do no harm'' when selecting a running-mate.
``Don't pick someone that can hurt you,'' McGovern said, adding that the current trend toward excruciating background checks of vice presidential hopefuls is a good move.
Before then [when Eagleton was picked], there wasn't much of any vetting going on,'' McGovern recalled. Former Alabama Senator John Sparkman, the 1952 Democratic vice presidential nominee, was asked just one question before he was invited to join the ticket with Adlai Stevenson, McGovern said. ``He was just asked, `will you take it?' '' McGovern said. ``That's the way it was then.''
I think General Clark may be making some inroads, despite little help from the Obama campaign and other Democratic insiders. Time has an article "Is McCain's Service Sacrosanct" on July 2, and it focuses in large part on whether McCain's service makes him vulnerable to attack on matters of judgment. It makes the good point that Obama will have to address the issue sometime during the campaign, despite the difficulty he may have in doing so. It quotes Bob Dole to say that General Clark's comments will help McCain in the end, but the article gives some good reasons why the Republicans may not get away with their ploy in this election.
Of course, so far Obama has played into the Republican's hands on the issue. I just hope he changes his tactics later and General Clark is allowed to make the case for Obama.

Rick Noriega’s Week in Review...
Rick Noriega ‘s week started off bad and somehow got even worse. On Monday it was revealed that Noriega’s campaign has under a million dollars in the bank, placing him well behind Senator Cornyn, who once again demonstrated overwhelming fundraising support from a broad base of Texans. As the Houston Chronicle pointed out: “[W]ith 113 days left until the election, Noriega has yet to show he can fan embers into a prairie fire,” (Ratcliffe, 6/15/08). Knowing his campaign coffers were in dire straits, Noriega frantically scurried off to Washington, D.C. late last week to beg big money Democrats Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid for an inside the beltway liberal bailout of his fledgling campaign. Unfortunately for Noriega, the consensus in Washington seems to be that Texas is still “solidly Republican.” (Ratcliffe, 6/15/08) On Wednesday, Noriega showed his true colors once again by teaming up for a fundraiser with General Wesley Clark, who recently attacked John McCain’s military service. Noriega, unlike Barack Obama, would not distance himself from Clark in the hopes he could raise a few more dollars. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported: “Asked two more times if he disagreed with Clark's comment, wanted to defend them or perhaps believed that Clark was misinterpreted, Noriega stuck to simply praising” Clark. (Batheja, 6/17/08). Things continued to spiral downward on Thursday when theWall Street Journal reported that Noriega held a fundraiser overseas in London that attracted only 6 people and a “not-so-grand total of$400.” (Whalen, 6/17/08). On Friday morning, Noriega appeared in Austin at the leftist blogger convention Netroots Nation – a convention that is attracting the likes of liberals Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi. And to close out the week’s festivities the Austin American-Statesman revealed that instead of campaigning in Texas this weekend, Noriega will head off to the posh surroundings of Martha’s Vineyard to chat up deep-pocket Democrats and try to get them to bail out a campaign that Texas Democrats are not upporting.

Cornyn Campaign Announces Outstanding Fundraising Quarter…
This week the Cornyn Campaign reported it had raised $1.7 million in the second quarter of 2008, and has nearly $9.4 million in the bank. What’s even more impressive about these outstanding numbers is that Senator Cornyn received 7,964 separate donations for the quarter, bringing the total number of donors to more than 40,000 in this election cycle. As in the past, 90 percent of the Senator’s donations come from Texas, proving once again that Senator Cornyn’s support throughout the state is strong and continues to grow. The Senator is humbled and honored by the assistance of so many hard-working individuals who believe he represents real Texas values in the U.S. Senate.
Left-Wing Bloggers Descend Upon Texas…
Democrats from San Francisco to Vermont are flocking to Texas this week for Netroots Nation, a national convention of left-wing bloggers. The so-called “progressive” convention features the crème de la crème of the liberal elite, including guest speakers such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, DNC Chairman Howard Dean, and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. It was once expected that Rick Noriega would have a prominent role, but he has since been relegated to two panel discussions. Noriega was drafted last year to run for the U.S. Senate by Markos Moulitsas, founder of the Daily Kos website and Netroots Nation convention. In fact, it was Noriega who successfully lobbied for Netroots Nation to come to Texas. Unfortunately for Noriega, his lackluster campaign efforts have caused Markos and his Daily Kos website to change their tune, having recently called the candidate’s lackluster fundraising efforts “disappointing.”

Senator Cornyn’s “Energy Independence Days” A Huge Success…
After a full week of successfully driving the debate on our nation’s energy future, Senator Cornyn’s “Energy Independence Days” officially came to a close. Throughout the week Senator Cornyn posted a variety of videos on the campaign website offering his vision of how we can best achieve Energy Independence. In addition, “Energy Independence Days” was fortunate enough to feature insightful posts from a variety of national experts on energy policy, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, among others. Excitement also built within the conservative blogosphere, with both national and local bloggers praising the Senator’s vision. And even more exciting, hundreds of Texans committed to Energy Independence left comments on the campaign blog thanking Senator Cornyn for his leadership on this critical issue and offering their opinions on how we can fix this problem. To see full coverage of “Energy Independence Days” or to offer your feedback, make sure to check out our campaign blog.

Disconnected Dem of the Week – General Wesley Clark…
This week the former Democrat presidential candidate finally came out of hiding following his recent, well-publicized attack on John McCain’s military service. In appearances across Texas, Clark continued to explain his controversial statements and offered no real apology while fundraising for Rick Noriega. Clark tiptoed around the issue, saying in the Dallas Morning News: “Military service is ‘a wonderful test of your character and what it means about your willingness to sacrifice for the country.’ But, he said, judgment is also important.” (Jeffers, 7/17/08). Strange words coming from someone who some have said has recently shown neither.

The Republicans who are falsely criticizing Gen. Clark for attacking John McCain's military service which he did NOT do need to first deal with the smear job which John McCain really did accuse the Bush campaign of actually doing to him back in the 2000 South Carolina Republican primary!
I think that these Bush Republicans definitely need to apologize to John McCain for what they actually did to him before they falsely accuse Gen. Clark of attacking McCain's military service which he did NOT do!
I also think that John McCain needs to first get a public apology from these Bush Republicans who really did smear him back in 2000 before he attacks Gen. Clark for something that he did NOT do!
Just look at what John McCain bluntly accused Bush's supporters of doing to him back in 2000 at an event which McCain said that Bush paid for and would not repudiate in this CNN transcript:

But let me tell you what really went over the line. Governor Bush had an event, and he paid of it, and standing -- and stood next to a spokesman for a fringe veterans' group. That fringe veteran said that John McCain had abandoned the veterans.
Now, I don't know if you can understand this, George, but that really hurts, that really hurts.
And so five United States senators, Vietnam veterans, heroes, some of them really incredible heroes, wrote George a letter and said, Apologize, you should be ashamed...
GOV. GEORGE W. BUSH (R-TX), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Let me speak to that.
MCCAIN: You should be ashamed. Now if you want...
LARRY KING, HOST: Is he responsible for what someone else says?
MCCAIN: Well, this same man -- he stood next to him, it was his event. This same man had attacked his father viciously.
BUSH: Yes, he did. Let me speak to that. Let me speak to that.
KING: All right.
MCCAIN: So I'd be glad to tell you the rest of the story, if you'd let me, when it's appropriate.
KING: Well, let him respond on that point.
BUSH: Let me -- let me answer that.
MCCAIN: You should be ashamed -- you should be ashamed of sponsoring an event with that man there who had attacked your own father.
BUSH: Let me say something, John. Let me finish. Let me finish.
John, I believe that you served our country nobly. And I've said it over and over again. That man wasn't speaking for me. He may have a dispute with you...
MCCAIN: He was at your event.
BUSH: Let me finish please, please.
MCCAIN: He's listed as your (inaudible)
BUSH: Let me finish. Let me finish.
KING: All right, let him finish.
BUSH: The man was not speaking for me. If you want to know my opinion about you, John, you served our country admirably and strongly, and I'm proud of your record, just like you are.
And I don't appreciate what he said about my dad, either. But let me say something, if you're going to be -- hold me responsible for what people for me say, I'm going to do the same for you. And let me give you one example.
Warren Rudman, the man who you had as your campaign man in New Hampshire, said about the Christian Coalition that they're bigots. He talked about the Christian Coalition in a way that was incredibly strong. I know you don't believe that, do you?
MCCAIN: George, he's entitled to his opinion on that issue.
BUSH: Well, so is this man.
MCCAIN: You paid for an event...
BUSH: So is this man.
(APPLAUSE)
MCCAIN: You paid for your...
KING: Please don't...
MCCAIN: You paid for an event...
BUSH: John.
MCCAIN: You paid for an event and stood next to a person. And when you were asked if you would repudiate him, you said, no..."
