He's making a tribute to the netroots -- what they/we did for him.

A Republican "playbook operation" -- what they did to him from his "Face the Nation" interview. But the netroots "fought back."

How can Democrats gain credibility on national security? Only when Democrats will defend each other.

Speaking now about education, health care.
The strongest things America has is her values and principles.
Asking all running for office to stand.

Asking all teachers and others in public service to stand -- docters, nurses, medical and health people, public defenders, police officers and firefighters, community development people and volunteers, active duty military and veterans. Thanked them all.
Another group to recognize: the compass, the keel of a ship -- the netroots themselves.

Looks and sounds good. Thanks for the blog, Stan.
"It takes two to speak the truth - one to speak and one to hear." - Henry David Thoreau

It's about getting it right for America. That's what the netroots have been doing, crossing party lines.
Rick Noriega -- the next senator from Texas!
Talks about a former Republican who talked to Clark last night -- the difference in ideas of the two parties.
The netroots is committed to the realm of ideas. It's a very serious process. The country needs the netroots, maybe more than ever.
It's not just donation and votes. It's the power of ideas.

And a fist bump with the next speaker.

but couldn't get the volume up. Thanks for the reporting, Stan!
Once in a while you get shown the light, In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

the netroots being the compass...or keel of a ship (I think that's what he said, but the volume was wonky for me too)... that both sides of the political fence read what bloggers say. And that what we say can be funny or satire, but it's serious too and there's a responsibility there.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off. ~Gloria Steinem
I can't always capture quotes, so these are by no means exact, but here is what we both were typing at DU:
WesDem caught: ""You have been an important part of my life
I caught: "I'll tell you my story. It's a long sad story of saying things that get taken and used by other people.
The times of London called and they asked me to publish an Op-Ed piece on whether Hussein is a threat. My wife came in and sbe asked my what I was doing and I said, I'm working on this Op-Ed piece about Iraq, and she said "please don't do this. If you go up against the Pentagon the Democrats will want to use it and you will get drawn into partisan politics. Do you really have to do that? And I said yes."
"You've given me hope and encouragement. You made it possible for me to run for President, and I'm not saying it was the greateest run, but we accomplished something. We even won a state...
...but that gave me a voice and it went on from there, and we started "StopIranWar.com" and it's still there and now President Bush has a representative meeting with Iranians, and you helped make that happen..."
I caught: About the economy
"You understand about the economy that it isn't about giving more pay and perks to CEO's, but about helping the people who make America work". It isn't about giving tax breaks to the richest corporation in America...
...every American has a right to Healtgh Care, and we are united in demanding that it be provided...
...you understand that the most powerful elements of our power are our values, and what we believe in, and you understand that we can not succeed in the world if we compromise our values by torturing people and denying them rights in Gitmo..."
Now he is asking all those in the Netroots Nation audiance who are running for office this year to stand up and be acknowledged, and he salutes them.
WesDem wrote: Netroots Nation
He uses "we" as a netroots nation
I caught: Now he is asking the teachers in the audiance, and the health care workiers
...and now the public defence lawyers, and the police and the fire fighters, and now the community organizers in the room, will you stand up and be acknowledged. And now I want to ackknowledge the veterans and the active military, stand up please....
Finally about the netroots activists and bloggers:
"You are like the keel on the ship of state, you are like the compass on the bridge. You are our moral compass speaking out. We have needed you for so long, and we need you now."
I caught: What you say is very important. People read it, and believe it or not...
...people read it across party lines. Someone came up to me at a fundraiser the other day, a Republican who was switching parties, and he did it because there are different ideas in the Democratic PArty. And you provide those ideas..."
...You are our moral compass. Our cpountry needs you, we need you now, more than at any other time in our history. We need change. We have a candidate for President who I believe can make that change"

Thanks for the fill-ins. It's hard for me to listen and type at the same time.
I have a 9.9 MB audio of the speech except for about the first 20 seconds (I was creating this blog when it started and didn't hit the REC button fast enough). I can send it to you if you give me your e-mail address, but I'll have to use YouSendIt to send it. E-mail me privately.

I really never listened to him (an indication how much I follow politics) but he is a great speaker.
I missed when Gen. Clark spoke :-(.
Netroots Nation convention was a great place to vent, was in it...
