General Clark will be on Fox News with Geraldo at 10:00PM Eastern Time

Submitted by Ellen on October 9, 2005 - 4:49pm.

That's tonight, after WesWing!

I'd never watched Geraldo until last Wes visit, and as someone said, he's certainly not mean like the others; emotional is OK, as long as he gives Wes a chance to speak.

Well, what would one expect? He's the expert on everything!! He says it's the local experts who will be dealing with things the most, even with federal help. All indications are there will be a shortage of vaccines (with a bit of a laugh). There are a couple of cases in Europe. The flu might mutate. And now on to Iraq!!

Geraldo talks about security with the coming elections. News guy from Iraq talks about military work in Ramadi. There are signs from Baghdad advertising the voting. No one knows how Sunnis will vote. There is a ban on cars during the voting - so no suicide bombs. Then on to Wes. Wes looks pretty serious (and he looks damn fine!). Wes thinks many Sunnis will vote but that the constitution will pass. The most probably results will be that the elections come off all right. The insurgency will still be there and still be supported by many Sunnis and will still be a problem for us. The document will pave the way for the Shiites to have the kind of power they want. The Sunnis weren't brought into the process soon enough to give them any real xxxx. We'll have to continue to work with it and modify it. We need a regional architecture of diplomacy (what a phrase!!). Geraldo interrupts. Wes says we need the discussion. We have all kinds of connections we haven't adequately dealt with. We've got to put the military in its proper place, but it's not sufficient.

Short, but sweet. Wes looked fine in white shirt, dark suit and tie. The silver fox. The intelligent fox.

Bird flu-This (Administration's) plan has never been released to the public, still being worked, Responsibility being put in hands of local authorities. Federal government assists to get communities prepared. All indiction will be a vaccine shortage. It's infecting those directly in contacted with the birds, not communicable yet, may further mutate, vaccine will need to be modified
Iraq-Substantial number sunnis will vote, but not enough to vote down Cons. I'm delighted to see security measures. Insurgency will still be there. Document pave way for Shiites to have power. Sunnis weren't brought in soon enough with quality of representation. Won't deligitimate resistence. We need to get with neighbors to create regional architecture for diplomacy. Don't need their troops need business, family and ethinic connections. Not just a war, politics, diplomacy, regional factions, etc. mixed in.

Was Wes referring to Bush not having another plan to deal with the Asian Bird Flu?  Cause (as always) they're likely a bit too late to get enough vaccine in 2 months, when most people get their vaccinations.

So if a virulent strain does break out (which statistically is possible, at least in Asia), it looks like elderly, children and those with great health care get it first.  In others words, Bush's failure in leadership may again have set us up for another epic disaster.

Mario Cuomo said, "Wes Clark is a man of whom you can ask a question, and he will look you directly in the eye, and give you the most truthful and complete answer you can imagine. You will know the absolute truth of the statement as well as the thought process behind the answer. You will have no doubt as to the intellect of the speaker and meaning of the answer to this question....So you can see, as a politician, he has a lot to learn."

OT, but could we get through to dems thru Cuomo?

Submitted by Vicky on October 9, 2005 - 10:46pm.

Whatever works!! It's amazing, when you think about it, how many well-respected Dems supported Wes, a first-time candidate, new Democrat, who'd never campaigned before. I was so proud when McGovern supported him so enthusiastically. And the late "Earth-Day" Gaylord Nelson. And our esteemed Lietenant Governor Lawton. Added to that the Buffalo Soldiers in South Carolina, a major Native American paper from ?Arizona? And all those diplomats!!

I think we should inform the Governor aboiut Vets looking for House seats, and Hackett, and remind him about Wes' valiant attempt, and ask him to help to get the party onto a winning track.

that Cuomo was outraged at the DNC by the end of the '04 primaries...rumor has it that it was to some large degree becuz of their treatment of WKC. You hear the most interesting rumors about Dem 'doings' out here ...I always wonder how much spin they pick up on the way to the left coast...you just never know.

I don't know about you guys but I cook my chicken before I eat it and I don't hang around with the chickens before I eat them. Don't think I will be needing a bird flu shot. The whole thing is being blown out of proportion...the only people that have gotten sick are bird handers...it does not transmit human to human.....I keep hearing we are going to blow billions and make companies rich when their vaccine will not even work unless it can be made for each new strain...which it can't. The bird flu needs to mutate in order to be able to be transmitted human to human...that probally won't happen...and if it does it will be squashed out right away cause people are watching for it.

Dave, imo, the threat is very real, which I've posted on a blog a few days ago. Should an outbreak eventually occur, it's countries like Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia that would be unable fail to stop its spread, short of a travel ban to Asia.

www.securingamerica.com/ccn/node/1496

The relevant issue, however, is that Bush never properly prepared for it.  It would've been cheaper to deal for  this months ago.  Additionally, as I recall,  the Bush Administration relaxed rules for BigParma to provide/produce the US with sufficient supplies of vaccines, since our gov't constrained "profits" their  at fixed rates,  ...which eventually contributed to the shortfall of vaccines last season.

"Regional architecture for diplomacy"

Love it.  What a refresher to hear a man who can weave words so well.  After the appalling assault on language we've been subjected to for so many years now.  What a treat!  Thanks for the video as I too had to miss the live version.
