If this is true, it helps (a little) Clark's chances. Biden was #1 on CNN's veepstakes.
Who knows?
Kaine also did not have an invitation to speak at the convention. I don't know if being invited to speak is a good sign or a bad sign. Maybe if you are invited it means you are NOT being considered. Nevertheless, I still think it's about 50-50 Hillary will be the VP.
"When you can do good, you should do it."
Did you see all the people who WERE invited??? Holy Cannoli Batman!
Good to see Mayor Daley and Giannoulis weighing in... (hope he brings "Jaws" Giorango with him!) ** See second post for the "Jaws" story.
===========================================
PROGRAM SUMMARY TO DATE
Monday, August 25 - One Nation.
Barack Obama's story is an American story that reflects a life of struggle, opportunity and responsibility like those faced by Americans everyday. Millions of Americans are struggling to get by. The failed policies of the last eight years have betrayed the country's values and left an economy out of balance. Barack Obama believes a strong economy is unattainable with a weak middle class. Tuesday's Convention program will feature the voices of Americans who share Barack's concerns and strongly support his detailed economic plan to grow the economy, create jobs, restore fairness, and expand opportunity.

------------------------
Wednesday, August 27 - Securing America's Future.
Barack Obama offers a new, tough foreign policy that is neither Republican nor Democratic,(cough cough) but is a strong, smart American foreign policy to make our country more secure and advance our interests in the world.
Wednesday night's Convention program will feature the voices of Americans who share Barack's vision of making America stronger and safer.
The headline prime-time speaker on Wednesday will be Barack Obama's Vice Presidential Nominee.

Thursday, August 28 - Change You Can Believe In.
On Thursday night, the DNCC will throw open the doors of the Convention and move to INVESCO Field at Mile High so that more Americans can be a part of the fourth night of the Convention as Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination. Obama will communicate the urgency of the moment, highlight the struggles Americans are facing and call on Americans to come together to change the course of our nation. Additional details of the program to precede Barack Obama's acceptance speech will be announced later this week. (PS: And "Rage Against The Machine" along with several other bands will be playing a free rock concert as well on Thursday)
Just tried to post this but it got thrown off! Blog is burping. :)

Alex Giannoulias, who used to be a professional ballplayer in Greece (per CBS), is currently one of Obama's basketball playing buddies in Chicago. With Obama's help, (Obama endorsed & campaigned for Alex in 2006) he was elected as Illinois State Treasurer at the very young age of 30. (but he did have banking experience)
Giannoulias was also a big donor to Republicans and to the RNC-- as well as to Obama and a few other Dems
See here:
http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?zip=60660&last=GIANNOULIAS&first=ALEXIS
Alexi Giannoulias, long-time Obama supporter, and backed by Obama in his successful bid for Illinois State Treasurer, gave mortgages to a noted crime figure that were used in the purchase of a Casino
"Giannoulias, who is senior loan officer at his family's Broadway Bank, has faced questions about the bank's multi-million-dollar loans to Michael "Jaws" Giorango, a twice convicted bookmaker and prostitution ring promoter."
(Rick Pearson and David Jackson, "Obama Leans On Treasurer Nominee," Chicago Tribune, 4/13/06)
-----------------------------
From NY Post:
Before he promised to raise funds for Obama, Giannoulias bankrolled Michael "Jaws" Giorango, a Chicagoan twice convicted of bookmaking and promoting prostitution.
Giannoulias is so tainted by reputed mob links that several top Illinois Dems, including the state's speaker of the House and party chairman, refused to endorse him even after he won the Democratic nomination.
------------------------------
Giannoulias Oversaw $11.8 Million In Mortgages Made To Giorango (AKA "Jaws")Giannoulias said Broadway Bank 'never financed any casinos. We never did anything like that.' But newly obtained records show that $3.6 million of the recent loans were used by "Jaws" Giorango and another convicted felon to acquire a casino boat marina in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Giannoulias said he thought that property was for condos."
----
There is one other coincidental connection with Giannoulias.
Antoine "Tony" Rezko accumulated $450,000 in debts to Caesars Palace and Bally's Hotel Casino between March and July 2006. He passed nine bad checks to get hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash or gaming chips in return, Roger said.
The bad checks were written from Rezko's account from... Broadway Bank. As in Giannoulias's Broadway Bank.
----
Now maybe Alex is a really decent, nice guy and "Jaws" Giorango just snookered him and his bank somehow, which can happen in the crime world of Chicago.... but why is this guy speaking at the Dem convention and not General Wes Clark????

Any bets on whether you will see or hear this in the major media, other than the Chicago Tribune?
If not, that is the real crime caper, in my opinion.

a small sliver of the stuff we'll be seeing after Obama secures the nomination at the convention. Obama fans best be ready to hold on to their hats. In fact, if I were them, I'd be googling like mad in preparation of attempting to debunk all the stories that will start seeing the light of day. It's all been out there all this time for anyone who wanted to know. It's a huge part of why so many of us will not get behind the guy, and why I personally never wanted our General anywhere near him.
ms in la has files and files of information that she has held back from posting, but I think seeing Giannoulias on the schedule for the convention, while our General is "not needed" pretty much sent her over the edge. And with good reason. This is absolutely disgusting. But not surprising.

the Rezko connections are even deeper than I knew, (than the Vegas bad checks for near half a million)...and all this from a small 'community' bank.
The Broadway Bank was also the bank at which Obama opened his Senate campaign fund account.
==============================================
The BROADWAY BANK (owned by Giannoulis and family) LOANED REZKO PROJECT NEAR $11 MILLION DOLLARS:
Chicago Tribune on 5/23/06
"Rezko and his then-partner in Chicago-Hudson LLC, Daniel Muhra [sic], purchased the site in 2001. But preconstruction sales for the units, priced from about $300,000 to $600,000, floundered, and construction never proceeded. In early 2002 the partnership borrowed about $10.9 million from Chicago-based Broadway Bank to carry the land, according to the bankruptcy filing." --
The BROADWAY BANK HELPED TONY REZKO'S REZMAR CORP. FINANCE A 24-STORY CONDOMINIUM:
Chicago Sun-Times, 5/5/07
"When Mahru was a partner with Rezko, their company -- Rezmar Corp. -- was helped by Thomas' Carnegie Realty Partners to obtain financing to build a 24-story condominium complex at Chicago and Hudson, a project that ultimately did not get off the ground. The financial institution that backed that deal was Broadway Bank, which is owned by the family of state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias. Elected in the Democratic sweep last year, Giannoulias has had to answer criticism over loans his bank made to reputed crime figures. "Carnegie brought us to Broadway," Mahru said, and introduced him to Giannoulias' father. "We paid Carnegie a 1 percent commission on the loan, which is normal and customary." A spokesman for Giannoulias referred questions to the bank, which could not be reached." --

The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.~Elizabeth Cady Stanton

going on almost 100 years. The feds get involved, find the mid-level lackeys stuck with the wet work, toss 'em in prison then get 'em to sing.
And then what happens? The criminals send their kids to law school. The criminals run the banks. The political covers get larger, and bigger and harder to take down.
And then they all go to DC.
This is what is happening. Whether teh O is in on it, or just too stupid or caught up in his own hubris to see the game that's playing out matters not. What matters is along with the rise of global corporatism and our own corporatocracy, we've got the mob moving in to control the seedy underbelly. Trust me - these guys have skills and talents. They want a piece of the global privatization, and they're going to find a way, come hell or high water, to get their piece of the pie.
covered it.
Sun Times was more thorough in coverage than the Tribune, but the Trib endorsed Obama and have since pulled some of their earlier articles.
speaking at the Convention, and not General Wesley Clark? That's a travesty!!!! Someone is smoking some pretty bad hopium to come up with that line-up!
I'll never forget the images of the "original" Mayor Daley père at the 1968 Dem Convention making the "I'll slit your throat" gesture at Senator Ribicoff, who protested against the excessive use of force by the Chicago cops against the demonstrators while speaking on stage. The cameras caught the gesture and it was really ugly! Tel père, tel fils?
Great posts, Ms. Thanks!
which will probably come back to hurt Obama if he puts Biden on the ticket. I wonder if Obama can see this attack coming if he picks Biden?
What short memories that Obama and some media pundits seem to have:

Obama said strongest foreign relations experience was living overseas as a child

Clinton hits Obama on foreign relations experience
DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) – "Just one day after Democratic hopeful Barack Obama said he felt his strongest foreign relations experience came from spending four years overseas as a child, rival Hillary Clinton fired back—and then John Edwards took aim at her. And for good measure, Sen. Joe Biden chipped in with his own two cents on the matter...
On Monday, Obama told an Iowa audience, "Probably the strongest experience I have in foreign relations is the fact that I spent four years living overseas when I was a child in Asia—Southeast Asia."
According to the campaign, Obama was six years old when he moved to Indonesia in 1967, and stayed until he was 10...
Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, also joined the fray Tuesday afternoon when asked what he thought of Obama's comments.
"I think he's right," Biden said smiling. "That is his strongest [foreign policy] credential."
Plus a Clark '04 hat!

I have a hat that just says Clark for President. It'll work for 2012 too, although when I mentioned Clark '12, my husband pulled over to the side of the Interstate and threw me out of the car.
We learn. We change. That's progress. If we don't do that, well, we're GWB.

suspense is a crock. He knows who it is. Why is it still a big secret? Criminey.

...he knows who he wants......but he could be getting last minute pressure from delegates to pick Hillary to try and stop his free fall.
Why have Obama and the New Democratic Party chose to rehabilitate the Republican Party at a time when it and conservatism has proven to be such a failure? Answer: "Because that's where the money is."

Saw this comment at Talk Left, and it makes perfect sense:
No HRC (none / 0) (#52)
by gaf on Thu Aug 21, 2008 at 01:07:44 PM ESTIt's not going to be Hillary.
Check this link
In an unusual move, Hillary Clinton's staff is creating a 40-member "whip team" at the Denver Democratic convention to ensure that her supporters don't engage in embarrassing anti-Obama demonstrations during the floor vote on her nomination, according to people familiar with the planning. The VP announcement is going to be happening before the convention. If Clinton was going to be the VP pick, then there is no way this whip team to control protestors would have been created.

key campaign advisors are still not in agreement over Barrack Obama's selection of VP-- input is rumored to be ongoing. It appears only Paula Abdul has given the VP the greenlight thus far, citing the VP candidate to be; "full of hope and a real agent of change".
Simon calls the choice "preposterous". Randy actually thought Obama was joking...

if it's true. Can't say I'm surprised.
