back into the fold, honestly and substantially
from a policy perspective
if NOT, it will be a blown chance to benefit
from WEs' great experience and advice
and a chance to further heal the rift with
Hillary people
I hope pride doesn't get in the way
Bill (from RI)
...do you have any reason to believe that would happen given the evidence? (other than it should)
...and that's assuming Obama wins which I believe is maybe a coin-flip
Wolf Cllitzer: not just a home run, a grand slam
Tom Brokaw: A very auspicious start
Jeff Greenfield: A perfect populist speech

Looking forward to Palin field dressing Joe Biden in the upcoming debate and hanging his pelt to the wall when it comes to his votes against constructing the trans-Alaska pipeline system thirty-five years ago.
And when the debate interviewer comes up with the obligatory "gotcha" question asking Palin where the country of Eritrea is located, I hope she answers something like "I don't know, but I do know where Main Street, USA is located"

The GOP base LOVES her. She had them FIRED UP last night. And it should be understood by now, especially by Clarkies, that most voters don't care about substance and qualifications, they just want someone to make them feel good.
policy
and she is smart, feisty, etc etc
and she fires up the base, and she
dovetails the drilling argument which I think
is at the bottom of this election---energy
but qualified to be prez?
nope, too risky ----when u say stuff
like Iraq war is a task from God
huh?????
and it amazing that the FOXXITES & BUSSHITES
USED to say Obama was weak on nat sec, then they said
well look at him reckless, he wants to go
into Pakistan............
well, we did yesterday... of course it took
bush 7 years to figure it out--amazing
I `beleieve I read you have a family memember
serving overeseas, and my nephew is headed
for a second tour in Afghanistan
so for them, and our country
we want this done right
4 more yes, of BUSH ideology and non-critical
policy decisions---nope nfw
whew, just had to exhale on this
thanks for listening
all Clarkpeople have a great day--let's
kick ass this fall---
SLEEVES ROLLED UP!
Bill (from RI)

Oh, no. I think not. But "qualified" is in the mind of the beholder, and thus, we are in trouble again.
Did it not sound like the prototypical VP attack dog speech? (Interspersed with the obligatory 9/11 9/11 references)
What if that Enquirer story turns out to be true - that Palin had an affair-- a la John Edward's Enquirer story only with much less air time gap from tabloid to mainstream... And what if she's only the red herring VP candidate put in place for that reason only-- to FIRE UP the base (who obviously were not even mildly warmed up by McCain himself)?? After she's served her purpose, she's expendable -- she had that experience problem to begin with anyways-- and the real choice steps in.
Can you envision the teary eyed resignation amidst media scandal, doing what's best for the country and the republican ticket -- followed up by the immediate replacement appointment of Rudy Rudy Rudy? (rovian 11th hour stuff when it's too late to have any big intraparty debates about it) And at the 11th hour you severely curtail the amount of time the opposition has to swift your VP candidate.
This is just my fear factor... talking out loud. Pay me no mind. :-)
McCain/Guiliani.... shudder.

MIL and all her friends voted for Hillary in the primary. They weren't that thrilled with McCain. But, this sealed it for them and they are solidly behind their ticket now... they love Palin.

I only saw a few minutes of it in passing but what I did see was actually chilling in a way not likely to be understood by left blogistan. Without mentioning Obama by name she said that he speaks of Iraq without ever mentioning the word Victory, except in reference to his own campaign.
"This is the third election in a row bashing Democrats on national security. But since this administration has been in office, we have had nothing BUT security problems. This administration wonít tell the American people the truth."

Are we looking at number 4?
I ask because I also got a mailer yesterday from the Democratic Party HQ in WKC's name about "The Barack Obama Victory Battle Plan" asking me if if wanted to make this "the Republicans' Waterloo" it seemed appropriate. I did like WKCs part of the letter about having 75 races & 75 days.
But Nancy Pelosi's solicitation letter contained in the same envelope didn't offer me much to go on except a picture of a Niagara Falls of cash falling into space & some kind of last minute media fight fending off some billionaire casino magnate named Sheldon Adelson & Karl Rove, playing defense rather than offense.
While I don't doubt Freedom Watch is a danger, we shouldn't have a nominee that makes these types of attacks a cakewalk. It seems like the overall Democratic leadership has possibly missed the boat in every way but an academic one in terms of mastering the national security debate - I don't know. It seems like Dems are ready to fight 04, not 08 but the ground has changed.
GOTV is not going to be enough.
Hope there's more in the tank than that.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The wife of Republican presidential nominee John McCain doesn't agree with vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's opposition to abortion in cases of rape and incest.
Cindy McCain also parts ways with her husband's running mate on sex education.
Palin opposes abortion and rejects the view that pregnancies caused by rape and incest should be exceptions.
Cindy McCain tells ABC's "Good Morning America" that "I don't agree with that aspect, but I do respect her for her views."
Palin has opposed funding sex-education programs in Alaska.
Cindy McCain tells ABC that she advocated abstinence as a part of sex education at her children's school. "I believe that it's twofold and I think all of it should be taught."

Barack Obama and Joe Biden 08

You can’t ignore the Constitution.
For eight years now, that’s what we’ve been telling the Bush administration with every lawsuit we’ve filed . . . every illegal act we’ve exposed . . . every dangerous piece of legislation we’ve challenged.
And now, we’ve got to deliver that same “You can’t ignore the Constitution” message to every candidate running for office in 2008.
The ACLU has come up with a powerful way to make it clear that, for millions of voters all across America, there is nothing more important than protecting the Constitution.
Sign the ACLU’s “I Am a Constitution Voter” pledge and get your free bumper sticker now.
American voters are being buried in a blizzard of speeches, TV ads, emails and phone calls from political candidates. But are they talking about the issues that matter to you?
They’re not debating how quickly to close down Guantánamo and how to do it right. Who will act with energy and conviction to restore our lost liberties? Who will put their foot down to end torture? Who will hold accountable those who condoned illegal activities?
Well, it’s time to introduce a new kind of voter to the political lexicon. And it's time to focus the candidates seeking our votes and the media covering these elections on some fundamental issues involving core American principles.
Sign the ACLU’s “I Am a Constitution Voter” pledge and get your free bumper sticker right now.
On September 17th -- Constitution Day -- the ACLU will officially launch our “I Am a Constitution Voter” campaign.
Our Goal: To make sure that candidates running for office and media outlets covering their campaigns know that there are millions of voters who care deeply about protecting the Constitution and defending the Bill of Rights.
Our Strategy: If we want politicians and the media to focus on protecting the Constitution after the elections, we’ve got to get them to discuss our fundamental freedoms before the elections.
You can help set the stage for our “I Am a Constitution Voter” campaign.
Sign the ACLU’s “I Am a Constitution Voter” pledge and get your free bumper sticker right now.
We’ll be telling you about lots of other ways in which the ACLU is going to make sure the future of our fundamental freedoms is at the center of the debate in the weeks ahead.
But, it all starts with you and other ACLU supporters stepping forward to declare: “I Am a Constitution Voter.”
Let us hear from you. Better still, let them hear from you. Act right now.
I Am a Constitution Voter
~I believe that no one -- including the President -- is above the law.
~I oppose all forms of torture, and I support both closing the Guantánamo Bay prison and ending indefinite detention.
~I oppose warrantless spying.
~I believe that government officials, no matter how high-ranking, should be held accountable for breaking the law and violating the Constitution.
~I believe that the Constitution protects every person's rights equally -- no matter what they believe, how they live, where or if they worship, and whom they love.
~I reject the notion that we have to tolerate violations of our most fundamental rights in the name of fighting terrorism.
~I am deeply committed to the Constitution and expect our country's leaders to share and act on that commitment -- every day, without fail.
~We need to let our leaders know that when we step into the ballot box the Constitution will be the first thing on our minds. Our goal is to sign up 300,000 Constitution Voters by October 15th to demonstrate our power.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off. ~Gloria Steinem

I sent them some money when they ran that ad in the NYT in the wake of FISA, and then shortly thereafter, I ended up joining and sending them some more. I've decided they're one of the few truly worth causes (you know, except for rescuing abused or abandoned kids and animals... the apolitical humanitarian stuff) left. I have their "card carrying member" sticker right next to the "Army Strong" one on the back window of my car (the one with the Clark 08 license plate... gonna have to turn that in some day).

When Stevie Wonder came on stage, I noticed a group of older men in black suits came drifting out from under the runway seemingly to watch Stevie Wonder perform. It’s the dozen or so Generals and Admirals supporting Obama. They came out to watch Stevie Wonder sing, “Signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours.” I noticed that General Wes Clark is swaying to the music. Actually the entire stadium was up on their feet dancing and singing along. I yelled out to General Clark. He turned and waved hello. I motioned for him to come to me. I almost dropped dead right there when he walked the 10 to 15 feet across the blue carpet to speak to me. We talked briefly. I’ve always liked General Clark. I had my picture taken with him.
