Simple Question

![]() It's a simple question: do you support President Obama's stimulus package? If so, we need your help to win in New York's District 20. |
For a Member of Congress, it's a simple question, really: Do you support President Obama's stimulus package?
Running to fill the open seat in New York's 20th congressional district, Republican Jim Tedisco couldn't give us a straight answer for over a month. Yesterday, Tedisco finally admitted that he'd have voted against the stimulus and therefore against 76,000 jobs in upstate New York and the biggest middle-class tax cut in history.
Tedisco seems to think that conservative ideology trumps the needs of the people of NY-20. Tedisco wants to be just another Republican in the House, where not even a single Republican member voted to help get Americans back to work and fix our economy.
In these tough times, we need leaders in Washington who will help us find a way out of this mess.
That's why we need to help Democrat Scott Murphy win the special election on March 31st. Please make a contribution to Scott's campaign today!

Scott Murphy lives in the 20th district with his wife and three young children. As a venture capitalist and entrepreneur, he has helped create more than 1000 jobs in 20 New York Companies. He has managed large staffs and helped create green jobs in upstate New York. He's exactly the type of person we need in Congress today.
The national Republican party is already running attack ads, and recently Tedisco followed -- lying about Scott's record of creating jobs. They want the race to be nasty and personal because the polls show Scott with the momentum. Just last week, an independent poll showed Scott just 4 points behind after some polls showed him down over 20 points just weeks ago.
Clearly Scott can win. That's why ensuring that Scott has the resources to spread his message is so critical. If the Republicans win, we will cede the momentum, and we know they will spin this as a defeat of President Obama's agenda.
Donate to Scott's campaign today!

In 2006, I travelled up to NY-20 to help elect Kirsten Gillibrand to her first term in the U.S. House. It's a tough district that voted for George W. Bush but in 2008 swung to vote narrowly for Barack Obama.
With Kirsten appointed to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate, Republicans want this seat back. They think they can get back in power by opposing everything.
We have to elect Scott Murphy. Jim Tedisco and the national Republicans want to show that being the party of No -- the party of obstructionism -- is a path back to power.
Are you going to let them win?
Join me and support Scott Murphy before his election on March 31st. We need someone who will support President Obama's agenda to get our country back on track.

Thank you for everything.

If I knew what 0's stimulus package really was, I might support it. But I am fundamentally opposed to handing out money to those who don't deserve it - or jump starting an economy or businesses with taxpayer's $$, while too many people are really hurting financially through no fault of their own.
I like Dorma's solution; give each taxpayer a grant in the neighborhood of $30,000 and watch the economy take off. Would have been cheaper in the long run and would actually do something for the people who are essentially paying for the bail outs of crooked bazillionaires who can't manage to earn an HONEST living.
In any case, I'm sure the dem Scott Murphy is 100 times better than any republican.
YES, WE MIGHT! But then again, we might not.
Sad to say, that's not even on the radar screen of the powers that be.
OTOH I totally trust WKC's endorsement of this candidate.

Competence--What a concept!

I've received requests from Eric Massa and Jon Powers as well asking for support for Scott Murphy. That's a nifty trio supporting him. I'll pitch in.
Thanks for all you do.

about this race:
NY election seen as referendum on stimulus
HALFMOON, N.Y. – With polls tight, a Republican state legislator and Democratic venture capitalist battle daily over the economic stimulus package in congressional race that's seen as a referendum on President Barack Obama's policies and a test of GOP strength.
The whole thing is here:

in his House race in my opinion. I was really glad to see this:

Limbaugh An Issue in New York Special
Democrats are seeking to use conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh to rally their base in advance of next week's special election in New York's 20th district.

Scott Murphy's new campaign mailer draws Rush Limbaugh into the Ny-20 special election. View full image.

A new direct mail piece from businessman Scott Murphy's campaign features an angry shot of Limbaugh over the words "I hope Obama fails." At the bottom of the piece in parentheses is written "Somebody wants you to stay home on March 31st...."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/graphic/2009/03/25/GR2009032502201.html
On the back of the mailer, an Obama drawing is featured with text superimposed over it that accuses "Rush Limbaugh and his lackeys in Washington" of trying to "be a roadblock to the change America desperately needs."
Democrats have been using Limbaugh's comments -- made at his keynote address at the Conservative Political Action Conference last month -- to raise money almost since the moment they were made but using Limbaugh as a turnout tool is a new wrinkle in this strategy.

A series of public polls suggest Limbaugh is a broadly disliked figure among Democratic base voters (no surprise there) but it remains to be seen whether that disdain will translate into a desire to turn out on a random Tuesday in March to cast a vote against a Republican House candidate.

In 2006 and again in 2008, House and Senate Democratic candidate effectively used George W. Bush as the bogeyman who scared their base into action. But, Bush was the president of the United States not a conservative talk-radio host.
The mailer provides an interesting window into a broader Democratic strategy to demonize Limbaugh for political gain. Will it work next Tuesday?
