WASHINGTON - Democrats on a key Senate committee bypassed a Republican boycott and this morning approved a sweeping plan to limit greenhouse gas emissions, a move meant to reassure other nations as the world prepares for global warming treaty hearings next month, but which figures to inflame partisan tensions in the Capitol.
The vote came after the Democrats, led by Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) Invoked a procedural rule to vote even though no Republicans had showed for the meeting.

Turn on the news, if you can.
They are talking about more than one gunman. 9 have been killed and many more wounded.
This is really horrible. Who the hell does this?!

that they will try to get him back on CNN later on. Wolf Blitzer will be hosting the CNN Situation Room live until 7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.

I really wish this had just been one guy gone nuts.

but what's up with the two additional "suspects" in custody? It has been confirmed by the military that all are indeed soldiers. Is this what happens when endless war comes home to roost?

to jointly decide to do this is not going to be good - but I have a hard time believeing it's to do with endless war - unless it's idealogical as in the case of the LR recruiter's shooting.

But not if it did, indeed, involve two others. For it to be three people, there had to be a concerted effort to discuss and plan this. So far as I understand it, that's not PTSD. But who knows?

An M.D...working in the mental health field...with the rank of Major...and a Middle Eastern-sounding name...at a place where soldiers are about to deploy or have just returned, apparently. That's plenty of fodder for speculation.

Affairs. He specifically said he cannot confirm the name of the dead shooter.
Let's hope the original report is wrong, for obvious reasons.

I forgot Williams is still out there. Refreshing to hear from a real journalist.

-- possibly within the last 3 months. I think Williams said that the man specialized in ... or worked with PTSD patients.
Bits & pieces...
born in VA
of Jordanian descent
family wasn't aware that he was scheduled to deploy soon (Nov 18th?)
Press conference coming soon.

something other than 2 sidearms.
From what i've heard so far, they are saying he did not reload. Last I knew, the maximum magazine load for a handgun is 17 bullets (and those were made illegal to buy - for civilians anyway - after 1994. So now it's 10).
That leaves 8 bullets unaccounted for, not including any shots that missed.
Sure sounds like omeone else was also shooting. And that makes this worse.

Pete Williams saying that witnesses were reporting the shooter had a gun in each hand.
ok...
As I'm typing this, I'm hearing TX Congressman Carter (in the backgound on CNN) saying that one person couldn't possibly do this much damage.

who just 'lost' it.
The dynamics involved to get two people to agree to do this, are, basically, all bad.

. the U.S. Army has identified the gunman as Army MAJ Malik Nadal Hasan, a psychiatrist who, according to spokesperson for Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's office, had been upset about his pending deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan.
