Detroit airliner plot brings spotlight on Yemen

In this interview about the Detroit airliner plot, Gen. Clark mentioned how that information was not handled properly, he said that "We were lucky on this" which I very strongly agree with, he said that we need to do more in Yemen obviously, and he said that he did not hear anything new from Obama but he did hear determination.

When Gen. Clark was asked what he would do if he was President, he said that we need to both do defense and offense.  He mentioned as defense unpacking what happened in the system, finding out why information was not connected properly, and working with our allies because the terrorist came from the Netherlands.

He mentioned as offense that we need to be doing more in Yemen and maybe we need to put some boots on the ground there.

Gen. Clark then said that he wanted to take the terrorists out, deal with them, and take them out of business.  He wants to put terrorists on trial and if the evidence supports it, lock them up for the rest of their lives or worse.

He said that it is to our advantage to use the full powers of the rule of law that we believe as Americans to show their crimes to the rest of the world because we want the Islamic world to turn against these terrorists.

Gen. Clark finished the interview by saying that this terrorist is a criminal, that he does not expect him to see the light of day again, and that he is guilty of a very serious crime.

This was an excellent interview in my opinion and I think we are very lucky that the bomb did not go off as it was intended to!

I think it is important to see what more was said on the same FOX News show about the same topic after Gen. Clark was interviewed:

1) Interview with criminal defense attorney Tamara Holder and retired senior CIA operations officer Gary Bernsten:

I was a little surprised at how hardline he was in this interview--not that I disagreed with what he said, but just by the strength and intensity of his comments.

and I completely agreed with him when the context of the interview was about a real terrorist who planned on killing a lot of people. Nobody can ever accuse Gen. Clark of being soft on terrorism in my opinion!

My question is, is the war on terror beneficial by sending troops in the Middle East when the terrorists sneak up on us here, on our own soil?

I know he's taken a little heat for this in some circles, but so what. He was right.
