Sarah Palin, Part 3: Why it is possible that Palin could beat Obama in 2012

Rapid Response
Hello Everyone:
It is as foolish to try and predict who the 2012 Republican nominee will be and what their chances of winning are based on that we know right now just like how it is foolish to try and predict who will win the Superbowl or the World Series in 2012 based on what we know right now. Many Democrats and pundits in the liberal media not viewing Sarah Palin as a potential and serious 2012 Presidential candidate based on what they know right now could be a very dangerous thing to do when anything can happen at any time that could be a complete game changer (just like how the economic crisis was for Obama in 2008).
I think that Sarah Palin has to be taken very seriously as a person and as a potential Presidential candidate regardless of how much of a fool that she has made of herself in the past because it is VERY possible that she could beat Obama in 2012 basically on a default basis IF she wins the Republican nomination, IF any one or more of Obama's major policies do not work out as expected, and IF too many people in the Democratic base do not work as hard for Obama in 2012 as they did in 2008!
I get VERY worried when I see well known Democrats such as James Carville and Jamal Simmons not taking Sarah Palin seriously as a person and as a potential Republican candidate for President in 2012:
1) James Carville considers Sarah Palin to be "entertainment" and his "Three words" for her are "run, baby, run" which is making fun of her "drill, baby, drill" slogan from 2008:

CARVILLE: I think the most important thing is, run, baby, run. I just -- I hope her -- and look, this kind of entertainment can't be beat. I'm serious. It's fun talking about this. She's a complete hoot. She's got a charming; she's got an interesting story. You know what I mean..."
2) Jamal Simmons called Sarah Palin "the gift that just keeps on giving:"

WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: "What are you finding it, Jamal? Is she helping or hurting fund-raising for the DNC?
JAMAL SIMMONS, DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST: We refer to Sarah Palin as the gift that just keeps on giving. Every single time she comes out in public it is a boon to Democrats.
It turns off moderates and Independents. She fires up the conservative Republican base, which is great for us, because she also fires up the Democratic base.
The DNC is raising money off of her. Any other candidate -- I mean, I think we saw what happened in New York in the special election.
Candidates should be nervous about having Sarah Palin come in and endorse you. She's not exactly going to be the signal for your success.
BLITZER: We've got to leave it there, guys. Thanks very much..."
Jamal Simmons has no more of a clue of what moderates and Independents will think of Sarah Palin in 2012 based on what he knows right now as he does of who will win the Superbowl or the World Series in 2012 based on what he knows right now. Palin may also not fire up the Democratic base as Simmons said if they are upset with Obama over health care, the war in Afghanistan, or anything else that may come up!
James Carville and Jamal Simmons could be making very dangerous assumptions about Sarah Palin because it is very possible that Palin could beat Obama in 2012 basically on a default basis IF Obama's policies on any of several major issues do not work out, IF Obama loses his base of supporters, and IF any of several other things happen!
Here are six reasons why I think that Sarah Palin could potentially be a very serious Republican Presidential candidate in 2012:
1) Iowa is a heavy religious right state that Mike Huckabee won in the 2008 Republican Presidential primary. Mike Huckabee realizes that he is more than likely out of the 2012 Republican Presidential race because he commuted the prison sentence of Maurice Clemmons (the man connected with the murder of four police officers in Washington) which leaves Iowa wide open for Sarah Palin to win and go forward:

He said he has become "less likely" to run for president in 2012 because he finds his current job hosting a show on Fox News to be "really wonderful." He also suggested he could again have a hard time attracting support from the Republican establishment..."
Here is the Hardball video link where Republican strategist Mark McKinnon said "Mike Huckabee probably has a great future as a-on FOX News or as a motivational speaker, but his career in politics is done. Stick a fork in him:"

Is Huckabee out of the race for 2012?

At about 02:04 into this video, Mark McKinnon mentioned how close to Obama that Huckabee was in the polls which in my opinion shows just how fast that polls can change!
Here is the Hardball transcript with the key portion of this video:

Guests: Rep. Jack Murtha, Rep. Mike Pence; Howard Fineman, Bob Herbert, Mark McKinnon
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: "He commuted his sentence for serious crimes back in 2000. And some conservative critics now are really hammering Huckabee. Is his political future over? Can he actually run for president in 2012, as he did before?
Mark McKinnon is a former campaign adviser to John McCain and much respected in his field. He also worked for George W. Bush. He's contributor to the fabulous Daily Beast...
Is this guy going to be Willie Hortoned-Mike Huckabee-Mark McKinnon?
MARK MCKINNON, FORMER MEDIA ADVISER TO PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH: He already is.
In fact-in fact, Rush Limbaugh is already equating Maurice Clemmons to Willie Horton and Mike Huckabee to Mike Dukakis.
Mike Huckabee probably has a great future as a-on FOX News or as a motivational speaker, but his career in politics is done. Stick a fork in him. In America today, given-the problem for this is-I mean, incident itself is bad enough, but there is a pattern. As governor, he granted clemency and pardons to over 1,000 prisoners, which is three times the number of pardons and clemencies granted by three former governors.
And so this is a problem. This would be a problem in a general election for Huckabee. But this will be a primary issue in the Republican primary, where law and order issues are really salient.
So, this is a real problem for Mike Huckabee. And it really-and, ironically, just a few days ago, polling came out that Huckabee was not only leading the Republican field, but he was within four points of President Obama. So, this is a spectacular fall.
MATTHEWS: Yes..."
2) This article in my opinion gives a very realistic scenario of how Sarah Palin could win the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination. Palin winning in Iowa, putting up a respectable showing in New Hampshire, and another win in the very religious right South Carolina would give Palin a lot of momentum:

How Palin Could Win the 2012 GOP Nomination

"Here is why this kind of arcane detail may well smooth Palin's path to the 2012 nomination. While nothing is certain this far out, Palin seems perfectly positioned to appeal to the conservative party activists who turn out for the opening-gun Iowa caucuses. Moderate New Hampshire, of course, is apt to be a daunting challenge for Palin.
Next stop on the traditional GOP calendar is the firewall South Carolina primary where, as Kamarck writes, "candidates such as Pat Buchanan and Pat Robertson (who were seen as too radical to win a general election)...could be stopped early on."
But Palin would not be a lucky fringe candidate who won a caucus or two; she would be a universally known charismatic figure who could beat the party establishment in this conservative state..."
3) As of right now, Sarah Palin is Rush Limbaugh's traveling stooge and her supporters blindly follow her which could give her an edge in a Republican Presidential primary race where the fringe right wing could possibly determine who the 2012 GOP nominee is:

4) Sarah Palin's poll numbers have actually gone up within the last month which I find incredible after the fool that she made of herself in 2008 and after the stupid things she has said about death panels and her giving legitimacy to the birthers:

But when it comes to opinions of Palin, a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Monday suggests a partisan divide and a gender gap.

6) The top reason why I think that Palin could beat Obama in 2012 IF she is the Reublican nominee is because it would basically be on a default basis IF Obama's policies either do not work or do not work fast enough to the satisfaction of most of middle America. Obama is way out on a limb on many big issues and he is in serious danger of losing his base while Palin has a very strong base of supporters:

ANALYSIS: Why Obama will probably have a lot of political problems in 2010
Submitted by Mitch Dworkin on January 4, 2010 - 7:39am.
It is very possible that Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) or some other ideologues just like him and Sarah Palin could run in 2012 and they would all be very dangerous people with the same mindset in my opinion!
The country will face a huge disaster if the Limbaugh & Palin wing of the Republican Party are successful in purging out the GOP moderates which is what they are trying to do right now in many 2010 Republican primary races all over the country. The purging of most GOP moderates would open up the door very wide for a Neocon GOP ideologue with the exact same mindset of Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, or Michele Bachmann to possibly become President basically on a default basis if Obama fails and/or if he loses the support of his Democratic base!
Most moderate and Independent voters who do not follow politics on a regular basis will probably not know about this purge of GOP moderates and they will just vote Republican in 2010 and/or 2012 on a default basis if they are not happy with Obama just like how they voted Democratic in 2006 and 2008 basically on a default basis because they were not happy with Bush:
Limbaugh, Palin Urge Right to Purge Moderates From Republican Party

"Right wing purists egged on by Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin fought to capture an upstate House seat Monday and electrify their drive to purge moderates from the Republican Party..."
If the Limbaugh & Palin wing of the Republican Party are successful in purging out the GOP moderates and if anyone with the mindset of ideologues such as Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, or Michele Bachmann should ever become President, then the next sound that you will probably hear on 1/20/13 (the next Inauguration Day) after the 21 gun salute will be our bombs falling on Iran, North Korea, and on any other countries who the new President does not like. There will be war, more war, and even more war!
While ANYTHING can change between now and 2012, the evidence in my opinion as of right now shows that Sarah Palin is potentially a very serious candidate for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination. I think that Palin is a VERY dangerous person who should NOT be underestimated despite her crazy behavior!

Palin Will Star at First Tea Party Convention
Updated: 7 hours 38 minutes ago

(Jan. 7) -- Amid this week's speculation about potential Tea Party leaders comes word that Sarah Palin has agreed to deliver the keynote speech at the movement's first national convention next month.

It will be Palin's first political speech in months, and The Washington Independent's David Weigel thinks it's significant that she chose the Tea Party event after twice passing on chances to address the well-established Conservative Political Action Committee.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is wildly popular among Tea Party activists.
The Feb. 6 appearance in Nashville gives Palin the opportunity to "take up the mantle that has been waiting for her as the movement's most visible and popular hero," said The Atlantic's Chris Good.

Among the other conservative luminaries who will speak at the convention is Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., who has been a headliner at other Tea Party events (and won't repeat her line comparing the movement to the doomed "light brigade" this time). But Palin is by far the event's biggest attraction. And she'll take center stage at a time when the Tea Party is showing it can influence election results.

The Tea Party is also becoming a factor in the Texas governor's contest. And public opinion polls indicate it's more popular than either the Republican or Democratic parties. But it isn't a formal political party, and some members of the loosely organized confederation of big-government foes are wary of turning it into one.

Dan Riehl is one conservative blogger who's not cheering Palin's decision to address the Tea Party convention. He called it "the beginning of the end" of the grassroots movement and predicted the Tea Party will become like other money-driven partisan groups.

"The tea party movement does not need one 'leader' or figurehead. It strives to avoid being a cult of personality driven by one person's ego or ambition," Pajamas Media's Andrew Ian Dodge said in a post firing back at David Brooks' pointed op-ed in The New York Times about the Tea Party's future. "In fact ... the Tea Party movement has distanced itself from a whole myriad of self-proclaimed 'leaders.'"

PolitiFact's Lie of the Year: 'Death panels'
By Angie Drobnic Holan

Seniors and the disabled "will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care."
Sarah Palin, Friday, August 7th, 2009.

However Sarah Palin was "quite effective" in getting people to believe the death panel lie (people vote by what they perceive to be true, not necessarily by what is actually true which is a big reason why Palin is a VERY dangerous person in my opinion):

AMERICAN MORNING
Health Care Passes Critical Test; Digging Out After East Coast Blizzard; Hundreds Stranded in NYC terminals; Brittany Murphy Dies
Aired December 21, 2009 - 06:00 ET
KIRAN CHETRY, CNN ANCHOR: "Well, over the past year, our next guest has told us who's telling the truth, who's lying and who's stretching it to the point where he says their pants are on fire. It's Bill Adair and his PolitiFact team. They fact check 428 claims in 2009. So as the end of the year approaches, we have Bill Adair joining us from D.C. to tell us who told the Lie of the Year.
Hey there, Bill.
BILL ADAIR, EDITOR, POLITIFACT.COM: Good morning. It's been a busy year for us.
CHETRY: You guys have been fact checking nearly 500 claims, but let's get right to it. PolitiFact editors chose what you're about to reveal as the Lie of the Year because they felt that no other falsehood would actually played such a big role in the national debate over health care.
So what was it?
ADAIR: The Lie of the Year is death panels. The claim by Sarah Palin posted on her Facebook page back in August that the seniors -- I don't know if we can go to the screen there.
CHETRY: Yes, let's show it.
ADAIR: Seniors and the disabled will have to stand in front of Obama's death panel so his bureaucrats can decide based on a subjective judgment of their level of productivity in society whether they are worthy of health care.
Now this one we rated pants on fire, which is our lowest rating, but, boy, did it spread. And because it spread so far and because it so dominated the political debate in the fall, we decided this one is our lie of the year.
CHETRY: Yes. And, you know, your readers agreed actually. Sixty-one percent on your Web site picked the death panels as the top lie. You know that at one point some 30 percent of people asked, believed -- this was back in the fall that death panels were actually part of health care reform. And it wasn't just Sarah Palin. Who else brought it up?
ADAIR: Boy, it was -- it really got a lot of fuel from many different Republicans. From John Boehner, the House Minority leader, who played on an earlier claim similar to it that it might lead to forced euthanasia, to Chuck Grassley, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, who said that -- suggested that the government was going to try to pull the plug on granny.
So this one spread really far and wide. And it really threw the White House off balance, and they spent a fair amount of energy there in the early fall trying to correct this falsehood.
CHETRY: Right. In fact, in one of the speeches, our president said no one's going to pull the plug on grandma. So that's how it became such a part of the everyday vernacular. Sarah Palin, though, apparently has no regrets on using the term death panel. In fact, recently, she did an interview with the national review and here's what she said about it. She said, quote, "The term I used to describe the panel making these decisions should not be taken literally. The phrases a lot like when President Reagan used to refer to the Soviet Union as the, quote, "evil empire." It was quite effective. Same thing with the death panels. I would characterize them like that again in a heart beat."
So she's sticking by it.
ADAIR: Yes. You know, she is right that it was quite effective. As you noted, the polls showed that at one point 30 percent of the American people believed this was true. And I think this speaks to sort of a larger trend during the early part of the health care debate that the health care bill was defined initially by the opponents, and in many cases through falsehoods like this. But Palin's right. It was quite effective.
CHETRY: Yes. A lot of other runners up for lie of the year. And your readers also voted a claim from President Obama as one of those runners up. In a speech to Congress in back in September, President Obama said, quote, preventative care saves money.
Now, one of the big points of contention in how to pay for health care reform is where's the money coming from. And you guys rated this false, that preventative care saves money.
Explain.
ADAIR: Yes, we did. And this is one that's surprising, because when you hear somebody say that preventative care saves money it makes a lot of sense. This was a claim not just from the president, but for many democrats. But when you look at the studies, the cost of doing preventive care is actually greater than the ultimate cost savings.
Now that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, it can still save lives. But in terms of the dollars, the cost of doing the additional testing is greater, according to the CBO and some other studies that have been done on it. So that one -- that one indeed I think as far as our democratic falsehoods, that was -- the top democratic falsehood.
CHETRY: All right. Very interesting. And, again, we had some other runners up. It was pretty close. So people can check it out. We've linked your site to our site, CNN.com/AMFIX.
Well, we look forward to you, guys, breaking it all down for us again in 2010.
Bill Adair, great to see.
ADAIR: I think we'll have plenty to work from, Kiran.
CHETRY: I think you will, too. Thanks.
HOLMES: Well, he's anticipating more lies in 2010.
CHETRY: Well, you know, we'll say a lot of things in Washington. That's why PolitiFact is in business..."
