All I've been hearing about the last few days is what Palin has said. I could use a voice of reason now that Iran is planning a "punch" for the west on the 11th.

Here's the article for those who missed it..

Iran anniversary 'punch' will stun West: Khamenei

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday that Iran is set to deliver a "punch" that will stun world powers during this week's 31st anniversary of the Islamic revolution.

"The Iranian nation, with its unity and God's grace, will punch the arrogance (Western powers) on the 22nd of Bahman (February 11) in a way that will leave them stunned," Khamenei, who is also Iran's commander-in-chief, told a gathering of air force personnel.

The country's top cleric was marking the occasion when Iran's air force gave its support to revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, a key event which led to the toppling of the US-backed shah on February 11, 1979.

His comments came as Iran said it would begin to produce higher enriched uranium from Tuesday, in defiance of Western powers trying to ensure the country's nuclear drive is peaceful.

This year's anniversary is expected to become a flashpoint between security forces and supporters of opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, who charge that the June re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was rigged.

Opposition supporters are expected to stage anti-government protests on Thursday when the traditional regime-sponsored marches to mark the revolution take place across the country.

Mousavi renewed his call for demonstrations on the February 11 anniversary. Just over a week ago, he and Karroubi had implicitly called for a gathering of their supporters.

"The 22nd of Bahman is upon us, truly it should be called the day of gathering," Mousavi said on his Kaleme.org website Monday.

Clark serves as keynote speaker as more than 200 thought leaders plan next steps for Rhode Island’s emerging green sector

Governor Donald L. Carcieri, Speaker William J. Murphy, Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed and the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) today hosted the Advancing the Green Economy forum, where they unveiled Version 1.0 of a strategic roadmap aimed at creating a clear strategy for the growth and advancement of Rhode Island’s green economy.

[]
The collaborative forum – the follow-up to last summer’s successful Green Economy Roundtable – further shaped the “Roadmap for Advancing Rhode Island’s Green Economy,” as attendees worked in small groups and provided input on how Version 1.0 of the Roadmap could be improved and advanced, setting the stage for pursuit of a Version 2.0 Roadmap. In addition to the working sessions, keynote speaker ret. U.S. Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark explored the importance of growing the green economy to the nation’s security and economic health.

Fitzpatrick: General says R.I. on green front lines

February 11, 2010

Retired U.S. Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark came to Warwick on Tuesday to deliver the keynote address at an event called “Advancing the Green Economy,” hosted by state leaders and the Economic Development Corporation.

Before the speech, I asked the former NATO Supreme Allied Commander and presidential candidate why he is now tilting toward windmills.

“I’ve always been interested in national security,” Clark replied crisply. “And this is all about national security.”

At the outset of his speech, Clark praised Rhode Island for initiatives such as proposed offshore wind turbines, saying, “I think Rhode Island is in the lead right now in moving toward a green economy.”

Speaking to 240 people at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, he said, “You’re connected to the three central national security problems of 21st-century America.”

The first problem is terrorism. “There are still people out there that want to strike this country,” he said. And that terrorist threat is “fueled by oil and money — and by the animosities, rivalries, insecurities, hatreds and fears that have arisen from the challenge of the developed world seeking those petroleum resources.”

The second problem is the economy. Clark said President Dwight Eisenhower believed the true strength of the country was not our armed forces but our economy. “We are in the midst of one of the greatest economic challenges this nation has ever faced,” and part of the problem is that we’re spending more than $300 billion a year to import petroleum, he said.

“That $300 billion to $500 billion is American jobs, technology and prosperity,” Clark said. “It’s national debt. It’s our economic strength. It’s fueling those abroad who don’t agree with us. It’s disrupting our economy. It’s creating corruption abroad. And it has to be stopped.”

The third problem is greenhouse gases. “We can’t go on belching out greenhouse global gases at the rate we are doing and expect our children and grandchildren to have the same standard of living,” he said. “The consequences of global warming are so severe in terms of climate change and the resulting economic, political, cultural and scientific dislocations that they are national security threats.”

In the face of such threats and problems, Clark said, “You are on the front line of the attack here in Rhode Island.”

It should be noted that Clark, a Rhodes Scholar, does not have a purely academic interest in the green economy. He is chairman of Emergya Wind Technologies North America and co-chairman of Growth Energy.

Clark called for making transparent the billions of dollars in subsidies that he said support the oil and gas industry. He called for telling the public that foreign oil is costing every man, woman and child $1,000 per year.

And he called for labeling the country of origin for the gas we pump into our cars, saying people don’t understand that their “friendly neighborhood gas station” can be “a vacuum cleaner taking money out of America.” Before the speech, he said Americans tell him about the “wonderful buildings” they’ve seen in the Middle East and he tells them, “I hope you liked it, because you paid for it.”
