TPM Cafe Day 3: So, this is Iowa...

Hey everyone. Today, General Clark is in Iowa and he has posted another message on TPM Cafe. Read General Clark's post on So, this is Iowa.... Excerpt below:

I have been taking some good-natured joking about not spending much time here during the Clark '04 campaign and I love it.  These folks are smart, hard-working, and sincere.

Many Iowans have been talking to me about red states and blue states, which is understandable since the mainstream media and political pundits have drilled these terms into our heads.  To my mind, however, when I look out over this land and visit with people here, I cannot help but be reminded that we have much more in common with each other than we have differences.

I can't find the General Comments, so I'm using this area to comment on the hurricane disaster and the Bush administration:

The Bush administration had several days ADVANCED notice of this major hurricane about to hit the southern borders. President Bush himself came on national television asking folks to evacuate the city.

Where are the National Guard? Where is Homeland defense? They have YET to show up down there.

The administration had prior warning of an attack (the hurricane) - he should have had the National Guard on a alert and stationed at an airforce base waiting to be flown down south. What happens instead? The come a full two/three days AFTER the attack (the hurricane hits).

Exactly how would the Administration react if this had been a nuclear bomb or chemical/biological attack?

We now know.

Also..

It's about time the Homeland Defense and EPA did something. It's only been since Monday the hurricane hit and it's been at least a week that they knew the massive hurricane was going to hit and hit hard.

Shame on the Bush administration for taking so long. GOD forbid we ever have a National Disaster like a nuke or bio-chemical attack. Looks like a lot of lives will be WASTED for lack of preparedness.

Also..

Why is the President waiting to speak at that time? To get more ATTENTION on HIM?

Why is he even bothering? He's just taking time away from the MEDIA, where they could instead be reporting on the disaster - which he basically ignored for a week.

He even had the nerve to go CAMPAIGNING for his MEDICARE plan in Southern California yesterday. Again, taking the media's time away from what is IMPORTANT.

The man is all about HIMSELF and his GOP leadership. They care NOT about what is going on down south.

Why are those cabinet personnel dressed in SUITS? Why aren't they DOWN in the THICK of it all?

I'm so ashamed of this administration I could puke.

I fully agree. Iowa is not a 'Red state', having gone to Bush by the slimmest of margins and for reasons other than 'political alleigance'.
Iowa, like most of America, is purple.
