Murtha of Pennsylvania; Clark of Fox News
Submitted by WesDem on November 18, 2005 - 11:24am.

Crooks and Liars has CNN video of Murtha's speech advocating troop redeployment in advance of withdrawal. Murtha wasn't extending a detailed plan, though. He was extending his heart and credibility to the American people. What a grand old Marine, what a great big heart, what a ton of credibility.
"I like guys who've never been there that criticize us who've been there. I like that. I like guys who got five deferments and never been there and send people to war, and then don't like to hear suggestions about what needs to be done."
Well said, Leatherneck!
Speaking of those who did not serve, but don't like hearing it from those who have served, we turn to Sean Hannity's performance last night with General Wesley Clark.
News Hounds reports that Hannity invited Clark, none too politely, to join him in his quest to know if Congressional Democrats agree with John Murtha.
Clark calmly answered that the US "went to a war it didn't have to fight."
Hannity interrupted to shout, "Tell that to Hillary and John Kerry, who you voted for."
"We went there because the intelligence was cherry-picked and given to the Congress and the American people were fed hyped-up information."
To Hannity's game of blame-the-democrats, in which he was abetted by Bill Bennett in demanding to know if Clark's liberal friends, the Democrats in Congress, agree with Murtha, Clark answered, "I'll tell you who's with John Murtha and it's the American public."
I wonder how long Fox will go on letting its hosts be embarrassed this way.

Today or tomorrow, I think.

and it was so frustrating when Wes was trying so hard to be heard.
I went to bed very upset last night. FOX should insist Hannity apologize publicly to General Clark for the way Hannity treated Wes. Bennett was just along for the ride and IMO didn't say anything substantial. He just sat there and agreed with Hannity, while Colmes mostly stayed off topic. Though I will say Colmes listed the intel lies while Wes sat there quietly letting him. haha!
Wes did his very best which is always to stay on point, remain calm (even though his expressions last night were most serious) and, even complimented Hannity by saying something like, "... you have been doing a great job here... but..." You better listen to his "but" because something important is going to follow. BUT Hannity didn't.
Hannity was posed to attack the minute Wes came on camera. Bully who plays dirty. I pray the viewers recognized who the reasonable man was. Sure seems obvious to me he was Wes!
Wes has served this country well. To treat a 4Star General that way, who FOX hired as their own military analyst, is low. Wes became cannon fodder for Hannity. I do hope Wes had a long talk today with Hannity and insists on respectful dialogue on FOX from now on, because I worry the viewers were having a hard time sorting the over-talk and weren't able to really hear his message. We all know what Wes is trying to say, his stance on Iraq, and his relationship to Dems positing about Iraq now. Viewers may not have been able to parse the parley from the tantrums of Hannity and Bennett.
Many thanks to General Clark!

after reading the exchanges about it on GD yesterday.
It didn't make me angry. It made me proud of the General. I think he did well. I've probably watched more Fox News than you guys because quite often when CNN International is ignoring US political news, Fox is my only cable news option to keep up with US politics. I hate it, of course, but I know they treat most liberal guests the way they treat General Clark.
thing is he handles it with so much more class and gravitas. A lot of other guests get angry and frustrated and lose ground. General Clark doesn't back down, but he doesn't lower himself to their level.
He comes across as a statesman, and I think each time they have to shout him down and he stays firm and strong, he's scoring points with the more logical Fox viewers -- and they are the people he's targetting.
You'd be taking them to the Better Business Bureau if you bought a washing machine the way we went into the war in Iraq. Wes Clark, CNN Aug 17 2003
Hannity's behavior was shameful, but it was typical. The General did all he could under the circumstances. I am glad he stays on Fox, though. Exchanges like this should and will convince viewers that this administration has not been honest with the American people.
what was that all about?! I'm glad I don't get cable tv, can't imagine listening to Hannity's drivel. although I'm glad of course that General Clark is there to counter the madness. what a zoo.

The morning news anchors have been good to Wes. Some have even lobbed softballs, and one even gratuitously brought up Clark's 2002 Armed Forces Committee testimony, saying that going into Iraq would "supercharge" terrorism.
Hannity is another matter. He could care less about interviewing his guests to draw out their views. His only agenda is to declaim the neocon tripe. He has guests only to be his personal foils so that he can turn them into his personal punching bags.
And don't get me started on that wimp Coma. "Insanity and Coma" is the perfect name for that show.

If not us, WHO? If not now, WHEN?

Wes was great last night when they let him talk. GRRR I hate Hannity.
