Rapid Response

Every Friday, The Next Prez ranks the top five presidential contenders for 2008 in the Democratic, Republican, and third-party camps. Here are this week's rankings:
Democrats
1. Hillary Clinton (steady): Clinton will likely remain in the top spot at least until the 2008 presidential race begins in earnest after the 2006 elections.
2. Mark Warner (rising): Warner is gaining a lot of name recognition, and receiving a lot of credit, for helping Tim Kaine to a convincing victory in the race to replace him as Virginia's governor.
3. Wesley Clark (steady): Clark has held off challenges from Feingold and Kerry in contending for the support of progressive activists, despite not joining them in calling for a timetable to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq.
4. John Edwards (falling): Edwards continues to travel the country raising awareness about poverty, but Democrats have started looking to Warner for a candidate who might be able to deliver Electoral votes in the South.
5. Bill Richardson (steady): The New Mexico governor brings a unique resume to the world's longest job interview, the race to determine who will be The Next President.
it's funny that they essentially say that the contest for the south is between Warner and Edwards. Last I checked, Little Rock, AR is further south than Virginia and most of North Carolina!

Oh, Melange, you and your FACTS again. Since when do facts mean anything to the media and the voters?

I was amazed when I first moved to the East Coast to find out that most people who grew up here don't know what's between here and California. Hence the term "fly-over states." It's funny, one NY journalist who interviewed my husband way back said he had a "western" accent. He's from PA!
Sorry to digress.
vast foreign policy and military planning experience will come into play.
Why?

Currently it is Gore and Wes

I don't see the Warner thing. And Wes helped Kaine as well.
The Hillary thing is frustrating. They say she is steady and put her number one, but she is way down on all online votes. It is someone's fantasy based on name recognition.

Interesting! I've got to wonder what the attraction is with Al Bore.....I mean Gore. Move on America.....he had his day in the sun and it was mostly cloudy.

Maria has the word out EVERYWHERE...
And we are gaining, too!

a comfortable 34% right now. Way to keep his numbers up, guys & gals!

Wes is in a good position. I suppose the Hillary support comes from name recognition mostly. In surfing the progressive blogs, she sure doesn't have the support there. Hearing more and more good things about Warner. Alex may have a point: Clark/Warner. It's still my view it is the Deaniacs who hitched their wagon to Gore right around the time of Katrina. Deaniacs still looking everywhere besides right in front of their face. Arrrrggggg! It's now: Wes 33% then Gore with 20%.
at 33%! Thanks for the heads-up.
BTW, Warner is a domestic whiz--and very likeable. He would be a terrific VP to Wes. The rest of the people are just not worth considering, IMO.
The General gets it right. Competence--What a concept!

Clark Leads Internet Straw Poll
Retired general Wesley Clark leads the biggest Internet straw poll so far for the Democratic 2008 presidential nomination, on leading liberal blog site DailyKos.com. The poll includes only candidates with active political action committees (PACs), considered a precursor to forming a presidential committee, although some may be focused on the 2006 election cycle for now. Former vice president Al Gore, a popular early choice in the liberal blogosphere, was not included in the poll.
