What were the criticisms of Wes' op-ed?

It's too late; we're the problem; it'll never work; it's naive; what do you expect from a Fox news analyst?

At least no one brought up that he voted for Reagan.

The most legit criticism is that Wes has been saying for quite some time now that "the window is closing." Well, then, when??? It makes it sound like he's just saying the window is closing to appease the liberals and he'll never say it's actually closed and time to give up. He countered that criticism pretty well here: http://securingamerica.com/ccn/node/2914#comment-47580

Personally, I'd like to hear more of that kind of comment from him. I think that what people are craving is reassurance that their leadership will not let people die for 10 years before admitting it's a lost cause and bringing the troops home. We don't have to agree on exactly when it's a lost cause. We just need to know that our leadership's views on that are reasonable. *I*, all of *us Clarkies*, know that Wes's views on that are reasonable. He'd never let his army flail over there so he didn't have to admit we were wrong to go to war--cripes he's already said that. But people who don't know him as well as we do need to hear evidence that he's not just being stubborn. There's a fine line between being tenacious and being pigheaded. Wes needs to establish beyond the shadow of a doubt that he's on the tenacious side of that line.

...so this is what we must do," is the way I see that Wesley Clark is talking.  He's not ready to pull out nor is he ready to admit failure.  Yes, the current administration has definitely failed, not wanting to admit its mistakes, nor the lies and distortions it invented to get us there.  But we're there now.  So here is what we must do.  It's neither "cutting or running" nor is it "staying the course."  Oh, how I hate hearing all those Repug talking points over and over.

Clark has superior military strategic planning skills, and also the diplomatic expertise we need so badly.  Who should be carrying out his plan?  Well, he should!

Realistically though, I do wonder what impact his op-ed will have on the powers that be.  Any ideas?

The people who want us out of Iraq now, still do. That's their position and they are sticking to it. Most of these people back the Murtha position or they want our troops pulled out of all the countries in the middle east. They don't care about the consequences. They are the isolationists. Nice people, just don't want us to be meddling in world affairs over there. Then there are the ones who think it's a lost war and Bush lied to get us into it, so he should have to face up to his loss and those consequences. I haven't read anyone exactly being critical of Wes.

totally miss the larger picture about Iran and the region.

Larry Johnson, BTW, has a new piece about the Shia..

A Very Shia Christmas

.it's up at Democratic Underground and his blog...he is also discussing the ramifications of the mess ..as well as how our homegrown religious fanatics are operating here.

I posted a comment at DU reminding people that Gen. Clark is also talking about Iran, with the GOP and Democrats avoiding the subject...
