Leadership means lifting people up. --Wes Clark
Interviewer gives Wes' credentials and concludes, "You've got it all, man." (INDEED!!)
The question, should we have gone to war. Based on an article in the Chicago Tribune (which I'm not familiar with). Bush says he still should have gone to war even if there were no WMD. He asks Wes and Wes says, "No." Good! Very definite. Interviewer challenges about Sadaam's intentions, potentials, resisting inspectors, etc. Wes doesn't buy it. We could have circled Sadaam. Used mililtary pressure. Etc., etc. Again, interviewer challenges Wes. Wes says he doesn't presume to understand Sadaam's mind. We could have started inspections again. Administration put the cart before the horse. To justify the invasion. Interviewer asks how many more UN resolutions we would have needed. Wes says, "So what if we took two more years if he was no threat to us."
Interviewer speaks of the "spreading of the virus of democracy," a phrase from the Chicago Tribune it seems. Wes says there are two points here. We know that Sadaam didn't have the weapons. It was hyped. Interview interjects and argues how successful the voting was. Doesn't let Wes get to second point. Wes points out some of the realities related to the election. Wouldn't it be a tragedy if in the guise of democracy we have a theocratic Iranian state in Iraq? (not exactly in those words). Interviewer has to have the last word, saying we don't want to ignore what has gone right. Wes smiles and says how good it is to be with you.

thanks for the summary, Vicky. Sounds like Wes held his own and then some, as usual. Hope someone captured the video.
The General gets it right. Competence--What a concept!

Wes was Great!
But,.. cripes,...John Gibson is such a blowhard for the administrations talking points! Regardless of the poor planning by W and uncertainty in Iraq; he plugged that WMDs may have been developed, democracy may be taking hold, freedom may occur, etc.
Wes clearly stated the facts and addressed issues about W' "case for war". Saddam was contained UN inspections and US forces could have been used as military leverage, without the same costs: now, it's a $200 BILLION price tag and well over 2000 American dead. Clark also said that under the guise of democracy", Iran comes out the winner with a mostly Shia-dominated theocratic state, as they develop nuclear weapons capability....

opened with Fox guy - introducing WC as Democrat against the Iraq war - Ques. do you still feel that way? W.C. restated his position which you all are familiar with ....then onto the central point the Fox guy was trying out - that Iraq election is like the Berlin wall falling... now there is a hint of GOP talking points coming from the Rove WH - W.C. ( remember I am paraphrasing ) W.C. not really I am all in favor of democracy in Iraq ... but wouldn't it be a tragedy if Iraq turns out to be a Iran style theocracy with close ties to Iran who is seeking nuclear weapons -- and his answer to the Fox guy's question are the Iraq elections a symbol ( paraphrase ) of success of Bush policies - W.C. that is yet to be determined; somewhere before that phrase he said there have been elections in the Arab world before - have to work the Iraq politics. It takes discipline to watch Fox news - I didn't yell at the Fox tv guy :-) - it was useful to see what talking points WH is trying out through Fox news on W.C.

The interviewer asked how much time? Wes said in the absence of a threat to America, it could have waited two years or more. GOOD FOR WES!

Wes talked sense and a Talking Head interrupted to spout BushCo talking points. No real discourse. But they usually get to spout their talking points without any opposition, so this is much better.

Wes did do well today under the circumstances. Stuck to his points and didn't back down. He seemed a bit more vociferous today, than usual (imo only), but that could have been due to the the host's attitude, who appeared to be a *ush "dead-ender". I think I remember he and Wes having a bit of a tet-to-tet a long while back when he twisted Wes' words concerning the troops. Wonder if Wes is changing any minds of the FAUX viewers, or just becoming more well known? Just curious.
in the meantime.... another media alert... on Monday.
David Asman (sp) was the talking head on the receiving end of a Wes Clark smackdown during the primary. Remember that?

Clark smacks down the interviewer, his weak-kneed advisors cringe saying "you can't do that," and the campaign hauls in a cool quarter-million that day.
