New America Foundation on State of Foreign Policy
In Washington, DC, the New America Foundation talks about the
"Real State of Foreign Policy."
1/30/2006: WASHINGTON, DC: 4 hr. 25 min.
I just got done watching the video in the CSPAN website (you provided the link). WOW - WHAT A LEADER!!!!
I am so grateful that you posted the link. Thank You - Thank You- Thank You!!!!
sit up straight!
at a previous forum!
But of course!
"Today I have the honor to introduce General Wesley Clark!"
WOW.... fabulous introduction!
Unitary Executive Theory is NOT a theory anymore!
darn dial up.
and not what it could be.
bless him.
We are a nation where liberty is protected by the constitution. Where the government is limited
that's why today I come to you concerned.
We're sliding into a dangerous future.
We can only change course if we talk openly about what's gone wrong.
Today billions of people areund the world feel that our becon is fading.
Why, because 4 years after 9/11 al queda runs loose
one by one...direct and to the point.
We're in danger of loosing the very principles we're fighting for
other countries taking advantage
Maybe because US has stood silent while Russia's freedoms are dismantled
has made more enemies than friends
because...well because people can't get ahead...my words not his lol
no policy for energy independence
I come before you with concern. Our nation is in trouble we're veering from our heritage, sliding into a dangerous future-- It doesn't have to happen this way-
Billions of people around the world believe that America's beacon is fading
WHY do they believe that? Because OBL --- Al Qaeda (etc)
Because terrorism has increased partly because of Iraq, drawing into jihadists like a magnet. Iran is discarding it's obligations, questioning Israel's existence, N.. Korea is defying US efforts to retain it's threat against the proliferation of nuclear weapons...
The historic opportunity of a democratic Russia is systematically crushed.
We've made more enemies than friends in the world and that is NO WAY to protect the American people.
PIN DROP when the General speaks -- audience rapt with attention

ICB and all in attendance... you know you just witnessed live and in person the beginning of a Wes Clark 08 campaign, dontcha? He was brilliant and inspiring.
p.s. I see Barry. :)
the terrible incompetence that was demostrated by our government.
of what some have called a culture of corruption. No wonder so many believe that us is a nation in trouble...SPENDTHRIFT ECONOMY
Denying our children the opportunity to dream.
What's happened to this nation that we love?
the policies of the Repubs not making us safer...distracting us from the necessary work here at home.
The terrible incompetence that was demonstrated by our govt.
Katrina, Stumbling through Iraq and the ME, Medicare...lists the failures one by one
Culture of corruption, some say it goes into the White House itself. A Nation in trouble, squandering our resources. A spendtrift economy at home.
The critics have a pretty strong case.
What has happened to us? What has happened to this nation that we LOVE??
As for that partisan charge--- democrats are living in a pre 9/11 world, let me be very clear The belligerent tone , the policy of this admin -- those policies are NOT making us safer, they are increasing the dangers abroad and distracting us from our problems here at home
APPLAUSE!
of the nobility of the human spirit
we rightly struck back at the perps.
But soon errors began
failed to commit sufficient forces, gave the terrorists stature
named an axis of evil, drove them to accelerate the search for nuclear weapons
errors invading Iraq whew
a pay to play culture which inevitably leads to corruption.
undercutting constitutional principles
5 years...leadership without vision or foresight
After Afghanistan
Soon the errors began...we let UBL slip thru the noose at Tora Bora,we gave the terrorist movement increasing stature. We named an Axis of Evil, it encouraged the Iranians and N. Koreas to increase the development of nuclear weapons
We have exacerbated the threats we face, not alleviated them.
A series of deep permanent tax cuts, shoved the nation into long term and unsustainable deficits.
A "pay to play" culture, encouraging corruption.
What's gone wrong? We have seen leadership without vision or foresight.
enough is enough!
One clear indictment after another!
Foreign policy to domestic...corruption "pay to play"...."enough is enougH!"
(smacked podium!) :D

Culture of Corruption.....I almost shouted out Woo Hoo!
Culture of Corruption, Culture of Corruption, Culture of Corruption.....
We are doing a duet!
protecting our constitution...country before party, always, always always
Congress must fulfill its duty
congress must show laws it passes are binding on executive brance
time for special prosecuter...re abramoff

after that country before party remark. ♥
Culture of Corruption, Culture of Corruption, Culture of Corruption.....
If we pursue a 40 yr war on terrorism, a phrase I've heard trumpeted more than once in this town....
We are a nation adrift. We must set the course right.
Protecting our Constitution comes first. It should be country before party ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS! (applause)
Congress needs to show resolve that the laws bind the exec. branch. It's time for a special prosecutor, independent....Abramoff scandals, etc. Get it out and get it over.
!!!
Calls for deep reform, not a checklist Education:
Public free school...math scienc eng...deep and fundamental in reforms
in education pre school to every child in america
study of science and engineering, community programs to insure every child grads. from high school.
What will our youngsters to if we fail them.
Comminttment of community leaders to create public schools that build carecter
whew spelling not good here
not just the profits of the companies
What will our youngsters do if we fail in this duty to them?? (RE education) Create public schools that emphasize learning and character. Best form of teacher accountability is found in the dialog between teachers and parents. NO STUDENT should be denied that opportunity because they can't pay for it. (Applause)
(People taking notes in audience!)
of single payer system
and addressing them with answers not just questions

campaign speech I've ever heard. If this man isn't running, I don't know who is! I hope every last one of those GOP wannabes is watching the rerun and trembling in their boots.
Culture of Corruption, Culture of Corruption, Culture of Corruption.....
We know unions a little bit in our family..
sorry, not much help, I can't stop 'watching'
the 04 issues.
partner...can be...but not under this administration (my comment)
We HAVE to have a plan to achieve REAL energy independence.
We must move in that direction. We must chart a new path for labor in this country. Talks about Uniions and Wes Jr. being in one.... Is it possible that Unions could become the 'development agencies' for workers? (further training, education for workers, etc) And if they don't - who will?
regional secxurity dialog.
we'll need troop presense there for many many years.
swervice people are alone in being asked to sacrifice (and there families)
Need to talk with all parties before to late
Need to bring Sunnis back into political system. We should hold real conversations with Iran and Syria. I'm sure we'll need a troop presence in Iraq for many years. The troops alone are being asked to bear the sacrifices.
In Syria we've got an historic opportunity, instead of just threatening we should be TALKING to them.
If we can deal with them effectively that will give us steady traction against Iran.
URGENT=Iran. Right now we should be opening a dialogue with Iran in which we participate. We need to TALK to the Iranian leaders...our gov't needs to do that.
The use of force should be a LAST LAST LAST resort (clapping)
will have greater leverage with Iran, right now we should be opening a dialobue with Iran in which we ourselves participate.
we have a military option , we can strike hard, take out much and we can protect most of oil...why not do it because the use of force should be a last, last last resort.
hopes the asmin. will think it all the way through.
WHAT IS NEXT?
Wes does know what we need to do
We should be talking with Iran directly. Use of force last...last resort. Think it thru. What next.
by killing terrorists
I do know when and how to determine our course of action w/respect to Iran. We need to talk....
It's now up to Hamas to form a gov't -- they are international outlaws as long as they call for Israel's destruction.
RESERVE Military force for a LAST RESORT.
We've got to win the battle for greater tolerance, understanding and respect for people of different beliefs and convictions.
Moral leadership is far more valuable than whatever pittances of information might be gained by compromising our beliefs. (Amen)
Should be run like under Clinton. Multi-national co-op. Smaller law enforcement type operarations, major military ops only if needed.
build ties and coalitions.
must rebuild the systems of international law...should obey int. law.
God I love this man and his vision
NO DOUBT!
...that boat was missed!
In real time we need a scathing response followin the bogus SOTU and we need it from our next commander in chief!
What would you do for a Klondike Bar?
historical turning point.
So I have to say this, fellow Americans...altho our nation is incredibly wealthy and powerful, We're at an historic turnig point--
Challenges to our very identity as Americans
Will we persist in short sighted partisanship? Will it be selfishness or teamwork that is the rallying cry for 21st century America? I believe that Americas' beacon of hope must shine brightly again. And if we choose wisely it will....
What would you do for a Klondike Bar?
Lots I hope
If we lose that moral high ground, what are we left with? We're just another big country using force to get what we want.
Q Re Iran: Dialogue vs Getting tough with Iran
A: Admin has focused on the least urgent of problems in the Axis of Evil. Urgency of dealing with Iran . We need to do everything possible before resorting to Military option.

I devoutly hope that you just got to see Gen. Clark's 45-minute speech on the State of the Union and a vision and the strategies to make America all it can be.
It was the densest, the best rhetorically delivered, and the most on-point speech I've ever seen or heard.
If you couldn't watch it, I'm sure there will be opportunities to see it. I want a DVD of it so that every American can see it and see the stark contrast between what we have and what we could have.
I need to see this a dozen times to come even remotely close to summarizing the speech. He left nothing out. He left nothing on the field. He gave all he had, and he has a lot. He laid it on the line. The standard has been raised. The stake of greatness has been driven into the ground.
The gauntlet has been thrown down. Will America be smart enough to pick up the gauntlet and do what is needed?

BE THE CHANGE you wish to see in the world.
If not us, WHO? If not now, WHEN?
but I was moved to tears more than once by the words from this great man and true patriot.
One doesn't have to physically see greatness to recognize it sometimes.
Though I've got to admit, a visual would have enhanced the pleasure lol
I didn't even bother trying to type while he spoke. Mesmerized I was! WOW!
Unitary Executive Theory is NOT a theory anymore!

virtually without referring to his notes! The man was on fire.....there was a passion in him that I haven't sen, except perhaps at the Dem National Convention.....only this was 10 times better!
Culture of Corruption, Culture of Corruption, Culture of Corruption.....

..he talked at the Fl Dem Convention. A friend of mine caught a glimpse of his 'speech' and she said that all it was was bullet points. I think this is how he speaks so effortlessly. In this case he had the full speech written out but I'm sure he just used it in the same way he did back then.........
You cannot successfully run the world on comic book slogans and third rate biblical homilies.

I was watching on a spastic 3 inch screen thru tri-focals you understand.
What would you do for a Klondike Bar?
Create an intervention force in Darfur. NATO to lead it. With the right approach and kind of force we could save thousands and thousands of lives. When you can make a difference you should.
