We're sliding into a dangerous future.

I come before you with concern.  Our nation is in trouble we're veering from our heritage, sliding into a dangerous future--  It doesn't have to happen this way-

Billions of people around the world believe that America's beacon is fading

WHY do they believe that?  Because OBL  --- Al Qaeda (etc)

Because terrorism has increased partly because of Iraq, drawing into jihadists like a magnet.  Iran is discarding it's obligations, questioning Israel's existence, N.. Korea is defying US efforts to retain it's threat against the proliferation of nuclear weapons...

The historic opportunity of a democratic Russia is systematically crushed.

We've made more enemies than friends in the world and that is NO WAY to protect the American people.

The critics have a pretty strong case.

What has happened to us?  What has happened to this nation that we LOVE??

As for that partisan charge--- democrats are living in a pre 9/11 world, let me be very clear  The belligerent tone , the policy of this admin -- those policies are NOT making us safer, they are increasing the dangers abroad and distracting us from our problems here at home

Need to bring Sunnis back into political system. We should hold real conversations with Iran and Syria.  I'm sure we'll need a troop presence in Iraq for many years. The troops alone are being asked to bear the sacrifices.

In Syria we've got an historic opportunity, instead of just threatening we should be TALKING to them.

If we can deal with them effectively that will give us steady traction against Iran.

URGENT=Iran.  Right now we should be opening a dialogue with Iran in which we participate. We need to TALK to the Iranian leaders...our gov't needs to do that.

The use of force should be a LAST LAST LAST resort (clapping)

will have greater leverage with Iran, right now we should be opening a dialobue with Iran in which we ourselves participate.

I do know when and how to determine our course of action w/respect to Iran.  We need to talk....

It's now up to Hamas to form a gov't -- they are international outlaws as long as they call for Israel's destruction.

RESERVE Military force for a LAST RESORT.

We've got to win the battle for greater tolerance, understanding and respect for people of different beliefs and convictions.

Moral leadership is far more valuable than whatever pittances of information might be gained by compromising our beliefs. (Amen)

I devoutly hope that you just got to see Gen. Clark's 45-minute speech on the State of the Union and a vision and the strategies to make America all it can be.

It was the densest, the best rhetorically delivered, and the most on-point speech I've ever seen or heard.

If you couldn't watch it, I'm sure there will be opportunities to see it.  I want a DVD of it so that every American can see it and see the stark contrast between what we have and what we could have.

I need to see this a dozen times to come even remotely close to summarizing the speech.  He left nothing out.  He left nothing on the field.  He gave all he had, and he has a lot.  He laid it on the line.  The standard has been raised.  The stake of greatness has been driven into the ground.

The gauntlet has been thrown down.  Will America be smart enough to pick up the gauntlet and do what is needed?
