Wes Clark, The Hard Rock, and Science
Submitted by larry on June 9, 2006 - 12:54pm.
OK, I won't be able to write up General Clark's speech at the Science panel and do it any justice. He was great. The room was packed at 8am! And that was after we kept everybody out late at the party at the Hard Rock.
I hope some of the other Clark bloggers will be able to fill in more details because I often found myself running around making sure details were taken care of. That said. His speech was great. Completely extemperaneous!
As for the Hard Rock party, it was held at the Balcony at the Joint in the Hard Rock Casino. The Joint is the music/concert venue at the Hard Rock. Packed house (relieved about this as we only started handing out invites in the afternoon yesterday). Markos gave a short intro for General Clark. Reminding folks that Jerome and Markos started DraftClark.com, but then got tired of waiting and went to work for Dean. Markos told General Clark that he shouldn't have taken so long. General Clark quickly responded, "You should have waited!" Then General Clark presented to Markos one of his military coins. General Clark thanked Markos for all he has done in creating the amazing DailyKos community and all the bloggers for all that they do to fight for what is right.
General Clark then discussed how the netroots must translate all of our energy, enthusiasm, and ideas into votes, including protecting the vote. Someone else will provide y'all more details.

Thanks for all the comments. I hadn't heard much about the party. Who's the lady by Wes in the food line?

Perfect reply to Markos.
Too, Markos should know by now not to attack General Wes unless you expect the perfect comeback.
He's been studying and practicing and perfecting replies to real attacks for most of his life.
In the U.S. Military DEFENSE department.

* [new] impressive in person last night (0 / 0)also impressive to watch the whole infrastructure that communicates 'presidential', between the staff photographer, security, aides, and whole style of interacting. It raised my consciousness (combined with seeing NM Gov. Richardson this AM) of how we need to change the system while working with it, what kind of lines candidates have to walk around hot-button issues.

This is not a time for a candidate who will offend no one; it is time for a candidate who takes clear stands and kicks ass.....Molly Ivins
"the cute General" ... "No kidding, he's adorable." ... LOL! He asked if everyone "caught General Clark last night!" LOL!
He seemed to have been impressed by our General. :)
The General had such a big crowd to speak to, extemporaneously-- he decided, in order to see the room and address everyone, he jumped up on stool (see pic) to talk to the crowd. He was not miked and able to speak out in his booming voice and fired everyone up with that good old town square off the cuff passion he delivers so very well.
He talked about our vote. A lot. About who really won the last election (add question mark to sentence) About Kenneth Blackwell and Wes's conversation with the Mayor of Columbus Ohio -- who expressed to Wes his concern for the integrity of the Dem vote there. Telling him 80% of all the newly registered voters were Dems, but Blackwell didn't want to count their votes. He got enormous cheers on all of it.
He referenced the Founding Fathers in a very funny little bit that basically ended up by telling us all to hit the streets and do all our grassroots work before all our elections - NO excuses for the turnouts we had in the past Primaries.
Now Boxer is coming up and I need to see her!
Will try to blog all of this whenever I can get a little off time.
(And battery time)
Whoooo 4500 roses campaign to Boxer being discussed now!

The photo is hard to see. You guys could use an "official photog" for events. I know someone who works very cheap!
Wow! General Clark was great this morning! It was one of the best speeches I have heard him give! I'm sure Larry will fill everyone in on the complete remarks later today. Last night's reception at the Hard Rock was AWESOME!!! The General had a great turnout and all were eager to hear what our favorite Four Star had to say. Thanks for everyone that came out last night, and for those of you at home... we will have a special treat for you later on (pictures, pictures, pictures
)!!!
Once back in LA I'll send it to Reg in an MP3 so she can transcribe it for everyone. A shame you didn't get to see it. He was great. And really impressed the science panel geeks too!
Loved the note he ended on, with the supposition of what God wants us to be seeking and discovering in science. Very profound.
I'm glad we'll have a transcript and maybe an audio recording. Wonder if anybody videotaped it? BTW, Reg's transcripts are great.

I don't know about the others who are not at YK, but I am wallowing in jealousy right now! I wish I could have been at the Hard Rock last night. He impresses the heck out of everyone whenever he speaks! I am so anxious for the General to go ahead and declare his 08 candidacy, I can hardly contain myself. Hopefully, he'll get an early start - if not, we'll have to draft him again. At least that is the way I feel about it!

I came close to going, just for Thursday night and Friday morning. Then at a pre-YK blog, when I asked if you could go to the party/reception without registering for the conference, people said no.
Sigh...
Wallowing in Denver, I am...

I really didn't need to spend either the time or money, Larry. But I appreciate your comment.

Do you have rich-text editing enabled in your account settings?
In Windows with IE you should be able to just paste a link w/out html formatting.

I saw the pictures at Kos... Gen. Clark not always impresses everyone when he speaks but he can stand on a pedal stool. Now that is called balance! He must be a fun and great guy to hang out with.

Where is written "Vigil La Pretium Libertatis" is that Latin and does it mean Vigil Premium (as in gold) Liberty? Just kidding, and I have no clue about Latin language. And the other side has the actual Gen. Clark’s signature! Cool.

"Vigil is the price of liberty."
