Both have unique insight and ideas to share. Chris Mooney will join us on Thursday, June 29, 2006. Staff Sergeant Zack Bazzi joined us on Tuesday, June 27. |
Chris Mooney

Chris is the author of the book, "The Republican War on Science" as well as the online editor at The American Prospect (where he created TAPPED) and a regular contributor to a variety of other publications.
Chris's work to call attention to the subversion of science by this administration's political agenda has been called "Nothing short of a landmark in contemporary political reporting" and " ...a wake-up call to all Americans who value intellectual honesty and civility in our national affairs."

Please join us at the Clark Community Network on June 29th to discuss the influence of government policy-making on America's heritage of free scientific inquiry.
The discussion begins ... here.
Zack Bazzi

Staff Sergeant Bazzi and 4 other "soldiers with cameras" filmed THE WAR TAPES while on active duty in Iraq. THE WAR TAPES is the first war movie filmed by soldiers themselves.
While at Yearly Kos, General Clark had an opportunity to see the film and was adamant that "every American should see it."
This remarkable documentary of the lives of soldiers on the front lines in Iraq has received rave reviews and is a must see for anyone who wants to understand the day-to-day challenges our soldiers face.
The film, directed by Deborah Scranton, and produced by Robert May and Steve James, recently won the award for Best Documentary at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival.

Will be sending lots of good thoughts and light your way to get everything you're working on done before this! Don't worry, no matter what bugs are still left, it will all work out. This is going to be so cool!

What a great pair of featured writers this week...I'm looking forward to what both have to say.

Welcome Staff Sargent Bazzi: Thank you for your service and your dedication to speak truth to power - and for your documentary a 'Soldier's Eye View.'

I haven't had a chance to see your movie yet, but hope it makes it to my neck of the woods (JAX, FL)in a month or two.
To give you some idea.....Inconvenient Truth didn't open here until last week.
This is not a time for a candidate who will offend no one; it is time for a candidate who takes clear stands and kicks ass.....Molly Ivins

Sent a request to my favorite local theatre to show The War Tapes. They were the only ones in town to show Fahrenheit 9/11, Good Night and Good Luck, etc.
*Fingers crossed*

Zack, I'm so glad you're here. I saw your film on the very rainy Friday night it opened in NYC and was very moved. I've since been trying to get everyone I know to see it. You know, when I saw it, you reminded me of General Clark...a compassionate, sincere man with a heart of gold who loves being a soldier. We could do well being represented by soldiers like you both.
Congrats on the promotion..(Everyone, Zack was recently promoted to Staff Sergeant.) and congrats on the film's big win at the Tribeca Film Festival!
Chris, I heard yours was one of the best panels at YKos. I've also heard some wonderful things about you. I love your blog. Thanks for the great book and all you do to try to reverse the Republicans war on science. I look forward to hearing what you have to say. Just so you know, we're expecting knowledgable...and funny. :)
Thank you both for taking time out of your very busy schedules to visit with us.
Cheers!
Carol

So nice to see such accomplished voices on the CCN! Can't wait to see what you have to 'say'!

What times of day will each be joining us? Maybe I'm missing it- Thanks, Holly
Zack is in DC ( which is flooding at the moment). They had 7 inches of rain yesterday and more on the way.
Several government offices are shut down.....
He's going to join us this evening at about 8PM EDT. Yep, a rain, busy schedule-complicated delay.
Hello and Welcome ! Thank you for your service to our country and for taking your time to meet us all. I intend to see the movie and get the real picture of what's going on in Iraq. The news seems general and your story seems to be the soldiers' story. Good Luck and Thanks again!

I didn't see word of this over at Kos- anyone have time to slap up a diary? (have to go out now) Maybe bump up attendence....
Thanks for your service to our country. Sorry I won't be able to post on your blog tonight, but I look forward to reading your comments and those of the Clark Community.
It was a pleasure meeting you at YearlyKos, and I know that the movie will have an impact on whoever sees it.

Proud to be an American.

I'd heard this morning that a lot of DC got hit bad...Lots of places closed and flooded...
Someone should post this at Kos...but I'm not a frequent poster there...Maybe someone who is??

I have to go off line for awhile but wanted to be sure to welcome Zack to CCN and thank him for everything--- his service, the film, and for blogging with us!
Hope to catch you later.
And so sorry about your weather problems, but you should try to catch our next guest blogger Thursday, science author Chris Mooney, who may have a few things to say about unseasonable weather patterns... ; )
I've heard nothing but raves about the War Tapes, and hope you can let us know where we can find it playing in L.A.

I have an orientation meeting at 5pm PT, which I think is when you'll be here...
Welcome to CCN, and thank you for coming!
