Governor Ted Kulongoski www.tedforgov.com
Nation-wide there are 38 gubernatorial races in 2006. Twenty-two of the seats up for election are held by Republicans and 16 by Democrats. The Oregon Governors race has been coined as “Toss-up as campaign begins.” In a year when Democrats are considered in a good position to take control of more than half the nation's governorships, one of their worries lies in Oregon. Governor Ted Kulongoski took office in January 2003, and has successfully tackled many issues facing Oregon, including a $3 billion deficit in the state budget and an economic recession. In his first term Governor Kulongoski, a former U.S. Marine, has brought Oregonians together to solve some of the state's most difficult issues. He has strengthened protections from fraud and abuse for older citizens, raised the minimum wage, strengthened worker safety laws, worked to preserve Oregon’s natural beauty, and ensured that the state’s children are well-educated, healthy and safe.
Governor Ted R. Kulongoski was born in rural Missouri on November 5, 1940, and grew up in St. Louis in a Catholic boys’ home. After high school, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the 11th and 12th Marine Regiments as a forward observer with the artillery. Following a tour of duty overseas, Ted came home to build a life rooted in hard work, public service and family. Ted has served in all three branches Ted’s service on the Court of government. Every challenge Oregon faces, Ted has worked to solve as a legislator, executive and judge.
Paul Evans www.paulevans2006.com
Paul is running for the 10th Congressional District in Oregon for the seat of State Senator.
Paul is a major in the Oregon Air National Guard. Two AEFs to Iraq (2003/2005). Over thirteen years in uniform overall (1992-1997 USAF; 1997-2001 ORANG; 2001-present USAF/ORANG). He was the Mayor of Monmouth, OR from 1999-2002 (he had an involuntary 24 month call-up of his unit forcing him to leave office). From 1989-1992 Paul was the youngest elected official in the State of Oregon. Educational/occupational background includes a MAIS from Oregon State University and a BS from Western Oregon University. He teaches speech communications as an adjunct professor as well as work as a community education liaison for the local school district. From 2001-2005 served as active duty and rotational active duty on homeland security missions as well as OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
From personal contact with Paul he states the reasons why he’s running. “I am running, and the importance of this campaign. However, the bottom line is this: I have defended my community abroad, I want to defend it at home. Oregon needs leadership that has been tested by experience and I believe that this is the year for veterans to stand up for what we believe in. I have sponsored the "Pioneer Compact" which is on the website http://www.paulevans2006.com/pioneercompact.html it is a philosophical approach to principle-centered leadership: guaranteed opportunity, a safe environment, protecting our basic rights, and promoting the future while providing in the present."
Lee Coleman www.friendsofleecoleman.org Lee was at every MeetUp for Clark04, always willing to do what he could. Lee served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Lee is running for Oregon House District 26, (Wilsonville to Aloha). However, the process of winning an election in a district where the voter distribution is 17,000 Republicans, 11,000 Democratss, and 8,500 independents will require (1) a large number of Republicans and independents to vote for Lee, and a vigorous get out the vote effort. Lee needs all the help you can give, shoe leather and money! He’s asking for relatively small campaign donations from thousands of concerned voters. By the end of August Lee needs to have gathered in somewhere near $50,000 -- or $5 from each of 10,000 people. Please help Lee out and consider donating money to his campaign. http://www.friendsofleecoleman.org/contribute.html If you are in Oregon, help Lee out by volunteering at his campaign office. 12250 SW Broadway Ave. Beaverton OR 97005 I'm trying to keep track of candidates for Oregonians to watch, these are a few.
