Clark beats Huckabee in potential matchup

2008 | Hillary Clinton | Mike Huckabee | Wes Clark | Democratic politics
Very good poll out today from Arkansas News by Opinion Research. In Arkansas a potential matchup between Wes Clark and Mike Huckabee has General Clark up 51%-37%. Huckabee is a top-tier candidate for the Republicans and this poll shows General Clark can turn Arkansas blue against the AR governor. This is very powerful as far as the appeal for a Clark candidacy, as Huckabee has really been turning heads nationally lately.
Also, Hillary was polled and she gets 49%-36% over Huckabee. Very nice to see General Clark outpolling Hillary, as well. More from the poll:
The Opinion Research poll showed Clinton with the highest favorable ratings among the three possible presidential contenders with 56 percent. Huckabee's favorable rating was 54 percent and Clark's 43 percent. Thirty-seven percent had an unfavorable opinion of Clinton, 35 percent thought unfavorably of Huckabee and 15 percent for Clark.
Both Clinton and Huckabee had 98 percent name recognition, to Clark's 63 percent.
...but then it got better. Thanks Larry for staying on top of this story.
Now, how to improve that "name recognition"? The low negatives are excellent and provide an opportunity for the General to meet his fellow citizens before rove makes the introduction.

is that most of the one third who never heard of General Clark probably don't watch Faux News! Hopefully it's because they realize how biased it is.

I remember looking at the internals of the polls in 2003-04. Clark almost always had the highest favorables and lowest unfavorables.
We also knew that almost everybody whose first choice wasn't Clark had him in second place.
Clark is the full-service consensus candidate.

BE THE CHANGE you wish to see in the world.
If not us, WHO? If not now, WHEN?
37 percent had an unfavorable opinion of Clinton, 35 percent thought unfavorably of Huckabee and 15 percent for Clark.
Disapproval numbers can be very telling in a time ripe with swifters waiting in the wings to compile smear campaigns.
15% is excellent! Especially next to Hillary's 37% which for some reason the writer wrote out in text instead of numerically as he did the others...
Great report, thanks Larry!

That really means that Wes can turn a few southern states to blue AR, TN, GA are ones I can think of off the top.
Clark is DA MAN

Yep. A head to head with Huckabee shows why General Clark would have some very strong appeal as the Dem nominee.
Post Clarks name everywhere you can. Anyone have a YouTube.com account with Clark vids? If so, then go and make sure that you have all the tags you can, such as clark, wesley, wes, wespac, securingamerica.com, etc.
Make sure you use wes and wesley.
Do you have securingamerica.com - Wes Clark / WesPac or something like this as part of your email "signature"?
Just some ideas from me.
On other blogs do you have SecuringAmerica.com - Wes Clark / Wes Pac or something like this as part of those sig lines?

Great trends!!
I just saw a clip on CSPAN from a "Rightway" Republican conference. A caller said he had beern a lifelong conservative Republican because he supported a smaller government, a strong military and pay as you go. He wondered, in view of the huge gov't spending and growth of the present admin--he even mentioned that the spending occurred way over the military expenditures--why anyone would vote Republican. Novak answered this way, if you can believe it:
Because the Democrats will be even worse. They will spend more on domestic appropriations. They will raise taxes. And you can vote Republican if you are concerned abouot social issues, like abortion.
I turned off the Tv at that point, but I think this bodes very well for the General. In fact, the Republicans' policy of borrow and spend are exactly why the spending has gotten so huge. (According to their own Cato Institute.) If Gen. Clark and other Dems can campaign on "Government done right", showing how the current spending can be redirected into appropopriate areas--and that in fact a lot of the spending is on tax cuts (hit hard on the unfair giveaways to corporations)--and that pay as you go is the way to go (Mark Warner has done great things with this in VA)--they've got a winner. And besides, the second-highest spending is currently on interest on the debt, I believe.
Other panelists addressed the explosion of earmarks--only 5% of pending, apparently-- but getting negative response outside the home districts. And the accompanying explosions of lobbyists. I still say that support of public campaign financing is the way to go for the Democratic party.
With his economic expertise and his military ecperitise, Gen. Clark is a natural for crossover voters and independents, imo.
Things are looking up!!

Competence--What a concept![/size]
If my conversations in Little Rock and elsewhere are an example, they tell me two things, 1) General Clark does not ignite the usual partisan flames among republicans who actually consider him as a person as in "I vote for the person," and 2) Hillary is clearly seen partisan (and worse), with the republicans in LR seeing her moves to the center not as moderation but as "pandering" to be treated with scorn. While not necessarily a "fair" assumption on the part of LR republicans, it is what it is. Much like the MSM gatekeepers, the people I've talked to over the years assume that General Clark being a general is therefore a "moderate" or even leaning right.
Winning the general election is not a problem for General Clark, the real hurdle is winning the nomination. He is probably the only national Democrat who has a free pass to being as liberal as he is. Charlie Rangel is a friend of Wes Clark; he is also a shrewd political observer. Charlie has always said that the General could win; I absolutely agree.

When they initially posted this article, they showed HC with the same 'beating Huckabee" numbers as WKC.
This is WONDERFUL news!
