Help Patrick Murphy fight back against “swift boat” attacks!

Patrick Murphy is a proud “Fighting Democrat” running for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th District. In recent days, Patrick Murphy’s opponent, Republican Congressman Mike Fitzgerald, disparaged Patrick’s service to our country. Patrick Murphy served with honor and integrity in Iraq, and no one – especially a Republican Congressman who has never served in the military – should ever be able to get away with such baseless, offensive attacks.

In a phone call with Patrick Murphy on Sunday, I pledged that our SecuringAmerica community would do everything we could to give him the resources he needs to fight back. Congressman Mike Fitzgerald’s attacks against Patrick’s service and honor are the height of hypocrisy, and they have no place in politics. Let’s make sure Fitzgerald knows that he can’t get away with it.

Contribute to Patrick Murphy’s campaign today. Let’s give him the resources he needs to fight back and set the record straight!

Sestak is being swiftboated as well. Can you believe that Weldon is using the fact that Joe was away from the district for 31 years IN THE NAVY against him?

As of today, I'm pledging that for every piece of shit I receive in the mail about Sestak from Curt Weldon or the RNCC, I'm sending $10 to the Sestak campaign.

Who lives in Patrick's district? If we can get someone in Patrick's district to let me know when they get them, I'll make the same pledge for Patrick.

everything they do is 'incredibly unbelievable!' We've been sayint it for YEARS.

Submitted by shortie on October 8, 2006 - 7:57pm.

They keep getting lower and lower and lower... to claim that they're the party of the military and then to criticize a man for having served his country in the navy... can they get any more hypocritical?

But we knew things were going to get worse. This is IT for them. They simply can not afford to lose. They are outright criminals and if Dems gain control they will be under investigation as they should have been years ago. They are cornered, wounded animals, and we can expect things to get uglier and more rabid than I believe anyone's ever seen.

And we still don't know what rovers Oct. surprise is. UBL being found? Bombing Iran? I guess we'll soon find out...

and sounding pretty desperate....

This Election Predictions website has flipped Sestak's race from "Very weak retention" for the Repubs to "Very weak gain" for the Dems....and has this to say about Joe:

In Pennsylvania's 7th District, Sestak has been performing increasingly well. He now leads Weldon in cash on hand, and the full breakdown of this advantage will be available later in October. The District is Democratic, and Weldon just can't stop Sestak's momentum. The race will be close, but right now Sestak is expected to prevail.

I really like Patrick Murphy. When I go to his website, I think that this guy is so earnest and good that he seems a universe apart from what is going on in Washington today.

Also, I remember that someone had said that Patrick was overheard on a radio show saying that he "would cover the General's back" if Wes were to run in'08.

Good guy and NOT a politician.

Fitzpatrick won't even take credit for his negative attacks. Living in PA-8, I did as asked and donated to Patrick Murphy this evening. Time for Bucks County to send Mike Fitzpatrick into retirement.

Registered Democrats are still outnumbered by registered Republicans in Bucks County; the story doesn't mention those of us registered with no party affiliation. Hopefully we tip the balance to the Democratic candidate.

PA-8 also includes a small part of Montgomery County. Thanks to the local gerrymandered redistricting.

" Democrats are continuing to gain on long-dominant Republicans in Bucks County as this year's voter registration deadline approaches.

Democrats have signed up more than 2,000 new voters since the spring primary elections, according to the most recent statistics from the Bucks County Board of Elections, while there are a little more than 1,600 new Republicans.

Bucks County's GOP still holds a comfortable edge of nearly 27,000 voters when it comes to total registrations, but Democrats have been steadily chipping away at that lead in recent years.

Harry Fawkes, chairman of the Bucks County Republican Committee, said the trend is due in large part to people moving into the county from Democratic strongholds, notably Philadelphia.

''A lot of them that are moving in are Democrats,'' he said. ''Not a lot I can do about that.''

John Cordisco, Fawkes' counterpart on the Bucks County Democratic Committee, said attributing his party's registration gains to new arrivals from Philadelphia is nothing more than ''a great excuse'' for Republicans.

He said he thinks the recent trend has more to do with excitement about Democratic candidates and disenchantment with Republican policies.

While Democratic candidates for president and governor have fared well in Bucks County in recent years, Republicans generally have been able to bludgeon Democratic candidates come election-time for decades, partly because of the wide edge in voter registration.

In 1996, there were nearly 50,000 more Republicans than Democrats in the county, and the GOP was the party signing up more new voters, according to county records.

Democrats have reduced that advantage, particularly since 2003, and the party surprised many last year by putting together a string of victories in several local government races."

The Republicans will Swiftboat any Fighting Dem. Their strategy is simple. They see a threat in Vets runnings as Dems. They want to place doubt in voters minds about these people. The Repubs attack their opponents strengths head-on. Its wrong, but they do it, and at times, it works. (In so many 50/50 races, you only needs it to work for a few people)

The dems must turn it on the Repubs. swiftboating is just one in a series of ways that Republicans attack our Vets.
1) They deny them body-armor
2) they deny them pay that goes to private contractors
3) they deny them the truth
4) they deny them proper health care when they return
5) They attack their service record to cover for the Repubs own failures.

We should welcome Swiftboating. It shows how the Repubs disrespect the military in a systematic way. It is the definition of Un-patriotic. It shows the Repubs true colors...and they 'aint red, white and blue.

PA-08: On Swiftboating Patrick Murphy Hotlistby mcjoan Mon Oct 09, 2006 at 07:09:26 AM PDT

In a blogger conference call Sunday with General Wesley Clark, Koby Langley, former captain in 82nd Airborne Division and Iraq war veteran, Patrick Murphy talked about the Iraq War he saw as a JAG corps attorney in 2003-2004. One of the things he talked about was being on a number of convoys--convoys which were prime targets for insurgent attacks.

In a a press conference conducted on Friday, Murphy's opponent Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick stood silently by while another Iraq war vet, Major Kevin Kelly, minimized Patrick Murphy's service:

Kevin Kelly, Philadelphia, Major U.S. Air Force, F-16 pilot, served in Iraq Jan. 06-May 06 "Patrick Murphy - I've heard Patrick speak a few times, saying that he wasn't sure what his mission was over there. That might have a little to do with that he is fundamentally mischaracterizing what his mission was over there. Giving the perception that he was out there, in the streets, every day with the troops, I don't think that's what his mission was. I understand I think that he was a lawyer. . . .

It just seems to me that Patrick Murphy, from what I understand, was not a front-line fighter. That is how it seems to me his service has been characterized. It's honorable, but it seems to me that you have front line guys and rear guard guys. You've got rear-guard guys and front line guys. You've got front line guys here. It just seems to me that Patrick Murphy wasn't one of them."

I posted the following on my DU thread:

"What I want to see is for someone to compile a comprehensive roster of good solid Democratic Veterans who have been smeared and swiftboated by chickenhawks or their supporters.

List them all in one place, including their years of service to America and awards won, headed off by a lead that says: What do these distinguished American Veterans have in common? They are all Democrats who have had their service to America belittled by swiftboaters in support of chickenhawks who never served one day in our nation's military.

I would do it myself but I am immersed in a work project away from home and don't have time to do the research needed. Maybe we can start collecting information for it using this or another dedicated DU thread for that purpose."

Any takers? If no one gets to this I will try after I get home from my current work trip in a week.

I'm pledging $10 to the Joe Sestak campaign for every piece of spit I receive in my mailbox from the RNCC or the Weldon campaign. I'm also pledging $10 to Patrick Murphy's campaign for every piece of spit a friend of mine receives from the RNCC or Fitzpatrick's campaign. I consider this a fine to the Weldon and Fitzpatrick campaigns, because every $10 extra that Joe or Patrick gets is $10 more that Weldon, Fitzpatrick, or the RNCC has to spend. Please join me in this endeavor!

(PAforClark, please contact me with Fitzpatrick's spit on Murphy so I can post it!!!)

Oh, and please Rec my diary about this at Kos so we can get more participation:
