Northwest Media Action (NMA) exists to support the production and distribution of alternative media, using an inside/outside approach to encourage innovation in all forms of media.

Today on Equal Time Radio, they will be talking about the "TAHOMA PROGRESSIVE MEDIA CONFERENCE" being held in Tacoma, WA tomorrow.

Here is some information on this up coming event:

TAHOMA PROGRESSIVE MEDIA CONFERENCE
Saturday -- October 7th 10:00 a.m. @ IBEW Labor Hall 3049 S. 36th Street (Tacoma)

This conference will bring into focus and galvanize the enthusiasm progressive activists currently have for generating alternative and less corporate media -- locally. Given the dearth of the same, local progressive media is clearly vital for a more united and effective progressive movement...

The event and effort are endorsed by the local ACLU, Tacoma Catholic Worker, America in Solidarity, and United for Peace Pierce County; sponsors include the Progressive Roundtable and the Pierce County Central Labor Council.

Don't hate the media – become the media!

Speakers, motivators, and guests will include:

- Mike Honey, Tacoma professor and movement singer

- Geov Parrish, co-founder of Eat the State!, media activist

- John Sandifer, Exec. Director, Television & Radio Artists union (Seattle)

- Frank Blair, Audrey Chase and Traci Kelly from "Equal Time," Lakewood's progressive radio talk-show at KLAY AM 1180

Media mode discussion groups will be informed and facilitated by:

- Ross Rieder and Bill Johnston – COMMUNITY RADIO: Ross and Bill are long-time local political/labor activists, with a radio program running on KSER 90.7 FM among their many credits and successes; they'll be armed with information about local radio resources/capabilities

- Linda Frank – INFLUENCING MAINSTREAM MEDIA: Linda is an associate publisher for a small publishing magazine, and a local media and political activist -- she proposes that mainstream media is not completely immovable, and cannot be ignored

- Patrick Edelbacher – TAHOMA INDY MEDIA: Patrick is originally from the Bay area and will present start-up information and plans for a Tacoma-Pierce County Indy Media website and/or ancillary projects based on prior successes and experience

- Petra Boston and Heather Carawan – PUBLIC ACCESS TV/DOCUMENTARY: Petra and Heather are dynamic film-makers and media activists/educators. They will remind us of the power of video/film, and hope to circulate a petition to reestablish local public access TV

- Jeff Richardson - BLOGGING: Jeff is the editor of the Tacoma-based Tahoma Activist blog (and created the Tahoma Activist events calendar, an exciting progressive resource); he'll speak to the power of blogging

- Thomas McCarthy – PRINT MEDIA: Thomas is a community college instructor and co-founder of the Tacoma/Pierce County Progressive Roundtable; he'll discuss getting a progressive periodical into regular circulation, and to the broader citizenry

Please listen, Please support and Please come to this event!
