Iraq Vet Dragged into Foley Scandal

Passing along this info to those who follow troop news.

It was revealed today in a hard-hitting Courier-Journal editorial that a current Iraq veteran and former page sponsored by Rep. Ron Lewis [R-KY] has been dragged into the Foley congressional scandal:

Two of our local members, Ron Lewis and Mike Sodrel, suddenly found it inconvenient to walk around arm in arm with Speaker Dennis Hastert at a campaign fund-raiser or a Rotary Club appearance. At least they recognize that pedophilia and its enablers don't go over well anywhere, much less in respectable parts of Middle America like Elizabethtown and Jeffersonville.

One young man whom Mr. Lewis sponsored as a page has been drawn into the FBI probe. Now a soldier in Iraq, he has been subpoenaed to talk about messages that Mr. Foley, a Florida Republican, sent him.

The editorial itself is a thing of beauty coming out of the red state of Kentucky. Read it here.

...and looking forward to being able to get back into things here in the coming weeks. Guys, I'm sooooo sorry that I haven't been in touch about the PTSD series. I have been doing nothing but final book work (and attending two classes), and have been trying to keep the stress down.

This next week is my final crunch-time, and then beginning mid-month I can put some work into an end-of-month article. November onward will have me right in there helping to get the PTSD series moving forward as well.

If you'll still have me. :o)

In book news: Here's a little snippet from Publisher's Weekly:

Ig Publishing has more blog-based titles in the works, beginning with Framing the Debate, a book on controlling the context and meaning of popular political discourse by Jeffrey Feldman (Frameshopisopen.com), coming in April 2007. Feldman is a disciple of George Lakoff, author of the bestselling Don't Think of an Elephant.

In May 2007, Ig will release Moving a Nation to Care by Ilona Meagher (Ptsdcombat.blogspot), which deals with the problems faced by troops returning from Iraq who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

And in June, Ig will publish Steeple Jacking, by two United Church of Christ ministers, John Dorhauer and Sheldon Culver (Talk2Action.com).

My last comment was about PTSD because Gen. Clark talked about it as you can see it on this video: Keeping the Commitment to VETERANS - St. Louis, MO. Maybe you have seen the video...

Anyway, thanks for the Ptsdcombat.blogspot… emailed it to my friends with On CCN: Purple Hearts, Broken Bodies as a title. I hope this important issue will not be berried with political soap opera disappointments…
