WASHINGTON | The race for the 29th Congressional District has become a million dollar contest.

Republican incumbent John R. “Randy” Kuhl Jr. has raised just over $1.2 million to finance his campaign to win a second term in the House, according to new filings with the Federal Election Com-mission.

His Democratic challenger, Eric Massa, has taken in $969,330 and will likely pass $1 million before the Nov. 7 election, records show.

“Fundraising has been very successful, and we reached our goal,” said James Kuhl, the congressman's son and campaign manager. “We're very happy with that and do believe it will be enough.”

Mike Williams, a Massa spokesman, said the Democrat's campaign goal to raise $1 million will likely be surpassed because “fundraising is ongoing. We're planning two or three functions a night for the rest of the campaign season.”

Through Sept. 30, Kuhl has outspent Massa but has more cash remaining. FEC records show Kuhl has spent $745,000 and has just over $550,000 remaining. Massa has used $635,000 and has nearly $334,000 left in cash.

Most of the money has been spent on ad campaigns. Spokesmen for both candidates said Monday they plan to intensify efforts in the final three weeks before the election.

Kuhl, 62, began the campaign with more money on hand than Massa, 47, who is seeking public office for the first time. Records show Massa again raised more money than Kuhl in the latest reporting period, $458,000 to $329,000.

that much of Kuhl's money came from before this campaign season (leftovers from 04) and that Massa has outraised him thre quarters in a row.

Thanks Westcott! Where is the coffee and donuts? Oh, yeah, gotta go to GD.

Actually this is an update: this makes the 4th quarter that Massa has now outraised Kuhl. And according to Eric, last month, of the money that Kuhl for Bush had raised, 70% came from Big CorporatePACs; whereas Massa raised his funds solely from leadership PACS ... and more importantly, the donations of REAL Americans, like you and me.

Eric must be amazed to be able to have raised this much money. Sure hope national attention moves to help him get across the finish line, along with all the other Democratic candidates in NY.

playing ground. They have added two "waves" to their Red to Blue races, and a new list of "Emerging" races whichh ncludes Eric. Not sure if this means cash, but according to their blurb it should mean advice and cash. They have been in close touch with Eric, with DCCC actually going to the district after they gave up trying to contest him. And I thought sure they donated money, according to what Eric ssa at the time.
